He did but he's not getting the sacks and that is going to be the measure of his worth. For what he's giving us, overall production, they didn't need to spend a first rd pick on him.

Harrison had 110 tackles his first 4 years he spent two years on practice squads, the sacks came later when he was named the starter in 07, however he fought through diversity his first 4 years, he was cut 3 times by the steelers and once by the ravens, before they gave him his big chance to start when porter went to miami, you have to say JH showed tenacity sticking it out untill he got his chance, signing players because their cheap soon gives you a roster full of cheap players who cant compete at the higher level, and when a team signs backups those players are supposed to be able to step in and play the position at a high level if the starter goes down to injury and the backup might have to fill in for a season due to injury, but if he cant, thats when a team has to scramble to find a capable back up, yeah theres a lot of cheap players out there, but you only get what you pay for.....

Porter was a 3 round pick and Harrison was undrafted. It would be amazing to find those gems that late again.

1st round picks at OLB have been garbage for many teams lately.

The use of taller and skinnier athletes might be one reason, but also the importance of an edge rusher in a passing league has teams reaching for the Dion Jordans and Mingos just to keep up with the Joneses.

:lolol: Not so fast though. I think JJ is a good player, he's just not the sack machine they thought they were getting and that was the primary reason they drafted him, not so he could drop into coverage which they asked him to do a lot last year.

Of course sacks are important but there are many other dimensions of the position that are equally important. Hits, pressure, intimidation, blah blah etc.

Actually he had more snaps than JarJ. I had figured less but I would sign him anyway. Even if he is worthless. He might be an upgrade. btw: 2 years now JarJ was not on my final 53 so obviously my opinion is biased and I have not wasted any more time commenting in any of the thousand threads on the subject. But now I suspect they should have paid more attention to that medical red flag that was dismissed. Maybe subconsciously [or not] it has had some affect on his play.

Not that much difference on paper??? Maybe a green thing should go here. It is surprising that the 4-5 rd guy has some better numbers in quite a few of the drills.??

Nope. Then he'd be the first British person to play for The Steelers, and I still haven't given up on the idea of that being me

different positions chain. crawford is a DE backup with one year more than JJ which is an outside LB. crawford would be a backup tuitt and heyward. he would be in competition with walton, geathers, lyons and philon.

Wow! So he was born in London. That I bet is a little known fact here. And he did not come here until 2005 it is amazing to me that he learned the game.

I am aware that there are a fair amount of NFL fans[many are Steelers] in England. Moreso than in most of Europe which is understandable as traditional rivalries and established sports are deeply ingrained. But frankly, I always thought the American version of the game would catch on a bit more because of the competitive nature of the game in both the mental and physical aspects.

Anyway, now for sure I have to see some clips on this player. Hopefully, he is a player the Steelers can use. It also would be a good PR move. But chances are slim. Not many players leave here signed.

Hey if he turns out to be a contributor there is always room for one more. So you're #2.

being different positions really show how limited athletically JJ seems to be based on those numbers compared to a DE. It was a mystifying pick to me back then and still is unfortunately.

I think he'd be more of a sub package edge guy. Colbert pretty much confirmed (when they we looking at Jason Jones) that with the increased use of 4 man fronts in sub packages, they're now considering guys who are 4-3 ends when they wouldn't have done so before. I like that thinking. We may be a base 3-4 team on first down, but we're in something other than that base 3-4 60+ % of the time.

i get that elvis, but for comparison to the two jj has been playing much more as an olb here than crawford as an olb in that type of system. i guess i should have said what tuitt and heyward played here formerly and the new JJ spot. crawford is in that mold, similar to chickillo and dupree types. they are really what we are looking for on the outside i believe in those (new base packages) but those guys are hard to come by. dupree is a tweener of the two types of that player. he runs like an OLB but has the size of a DE. JJ's are becoming a dying breed in this new defense. may be the same way with the harrisons and moats in our system.

i think we are looking more at guys like lawson, ogbah, tapper and judon as possible targets. guys that are 260+ that run in the 4.5's to 4.6's.

I think so too. Maybe they are locking the barn door after the horse was stolen. Fans have been screaming to tap the FA market for this type player for several years now and nothing. Jamaal Sheard for one comes to mind. Not sure how NE uses him but he sure was a good add.

Oh well, as they say it's never too late but it is doubtful Crawford is the target. Then again the only clip I saw on him was 2011 vs Ohio St. He may have come a long way since.

The only thing I got to say about who we should be targeting, is it is obvious we need to get way more pressure on the QB then we have been. Along with our lack of talent at DB this is even more important.

We need guys that can get to the QB regardless of their size or if they are DE or OLB. We watched Ryan Mallet last year having all day to throw with little or no pressure. If we want to get another SB victory this should be a priority. One just has to look at what pressure does and what Denver did to Carolina this year.
