    1) Kevin Beechum- OT--- Really wanted to keep him but the money just wasn't there. He signed a 1yr prove it deal with a big 4yr option added.

    2) McLendon-DL--- This one Hurt as we don't have proven depth on the DL but his price per Snaps couldn't justify keeping him.

    3) Sean Spence-ILB--- Really like the guy, hate seeing him leave but happy for him, no way he was going to beat Shazier or Timmons the next couple years and Vince is a solid inside thumper.

    4) Garvin-ILB--- Solid STer but Fort should easily replace him, maybe upgrade.

    5) Todman RB---- I liked him but we will be ok, Touisannt will be his replacement, if not already.

    6) Blake CB---- Yippeeeee!!! Surprised but happy.

I Like Wil Johnson, would like to see him stay but if he signs somewhere else that will be ok too.
Also Boykin is the other UFA we may loose, and if so we may be fine. I like him, hope he resigns here but right now he's just a slot CB and we already have Gay there And Golson in the slot. We are over stocked in the slot and someone needs to move outside, currently that's Gay.

These loses can and have been asorbed just fine, hasn't really hurt us and should help give us some nice Comp picks next year and that knowledge may encourage the Steelers to move up into the 4th or 5th RD giving up a pick from next year if they see a guy they really like sitting there.

This years draft may prove to be exciting.

    Cajun-

Nice post I concur. I too like WillJ but Nix seemed to be pretty alright in the FB spot.

You're right about next year's comp pick, Cajun. May give us the ammo to move up and grab someone we like this year.

I think in the long run Spence is only one that will hurt. Shazier hasn't proven he can stay on the field. I hope he does.

I think Spence was a god st player as well

The structure of the Beachum deal may hurt us when the time comes to determine 2017 comp picks. From what I've read, it's a 1 year, 4.5 mil deal with a club option to add something like 4/40 if they want to keep him. Not sure how that's going to factor into the comp pick black box.

It's not like they lost any Pro Bowl type players, they should be okay moving forward.

Nothing to worry about there, especially with Harris signed. The guys we kept were far more important and I love the Green signing.

We have about 10 roster holes with the draft upcoming and plenty of FAs available and Vet cuts ahead.

How so? I don't usually pay attention to that kind of stuff but as of now I doubt if they have any more than zero picks coming. Maybe they get something for Beach but that's about it. Then again they acquired two possible starters so that will neutralize Beach wont it? No I think losing all these ST/backup players is a mistake and will cost them. Then again, maybe none of them really wanted to stay here. But I wouldn't worry about the few remaining. Doubtful anyone is interested and all the cherries have been picked already.

Look at it from the other teams perspective. They are getting quality proven players that may even have starting skills for nothing. They don't have to waste any draft picks to get ST players or backups and might even get some quality starting time out of some of these guys. Spence, Garvin and even Blake [yeah I know, I heard the cheering on this loss]had high ST snap counts. They are going to have to be replaced.

Last year they lost Howard Johnson a PS player here now sharing starting time for TB. This disregard for younger players and love affair with ageing and/or barely serviceable vets is puzzling.

Well, Add Boykin to the list which now stands at 7 Lost FA. Loosing Spence is the most concerning to me.

True....Everybody knows how hard I am on Colbert but to be fair, we've got to give him time to work and maneuver. After the draft and another 5 weeks behind the draft, then lets see what the landscape of our team looks like.

I'm not "coming around" on Colbert. How he's handled the secondary for the past 4 years has been the worse in the league. But we can't judge him THIS YEAR until he has the entire off-season to make moves. Just being fair. But Colbert has missed on the entire secondary over the last 4 years.

Texans signed QB Brandon Weeden, which likely means Brian Hoyer could be out the door. I know some of you were thinking Hoyer may be a piece to bring back. Just an update...

I think he's clearly better than our current #2. No doubt some will point to Hoyer's playoff game last season as evidence that he stinks, but his body of work in 2015 wasn't bad. He had a 91.4 passer rating, 19 TDs vs 7 ints, and did it with Hopkins as his only solid veteran receiver. Heck... In 2014 he had the Browns in a position to make the playoffs more than halfway through the season. Yeah, those Browns. I'll take that over Jones' single half of good football.

The thing is, he'll get more money than we can come up with because some team with QB issues will want him as a backup plan, and pay accordingly.

Yep. His stock is higher than Grad's was when we picked him up, and he's much younger than Batch was when he came here. I imagine if we are looking to sign an FA QB, we'll be looking for something a bit more washed up and unimpressive than Hoyer.
