Are there any CB or S still out there that would make sense for the Steelers to sign? Not impossible...but to draft 2 impact players to fill these spots will be a long shot. Steelers normally have everything covered so they can draft BPA.

Leon Hall CB on a 1 year deal might be a option. Also Patrick Robinson is still out there, the Steelers had some interest in him last season.

Leon Sandcastle is still available from what I've seen. Could be a sleeper at CB.

If pretty accurate, they might have a couple guys they haven't updated yet as signing come in. They actually had Pacman as re-signing earlier when I looked at it so yeah.

What on earth did Boykin do to get the Steelers to completely ignore him? I thought he played well enough when given the chance. Not that he was given much chance. Maybe the Steelers have looked into him but he won't give them the time of day now? Just a guess but it sure is strange.

I like Powers and Robinson but this list is getting short, I am feeling like we are going CB in the 1st.....

I guess that is my point. Art said that he wanted a better defensive back field and they haven't addressed it at all (other than signing our own guys).
Sounds like they were not really in the running for Weddle.
I can't imagine that they are OK with Cockrell, Gay, Cortez Allen (Golson), Golden and Mitchell as our opening day starters.
What really concerns me is that they believe the same...and bring back Blake and Will Allen.
Trying to get a day one impact player at CB AND Safety in the draft does not seem realistic.

Agreed however we may not get a day one impact player at CB and S but I feel this will be out 1st two picks and the S class is real strong and I can see a #1 type CB in this draft. I feel that in this class we could have mid season starters, but will that be too late??????

I pray to the football gods that we bring back Boykin. I know it's highly unlikely but that would solidify the backend for at least another season. I would still draft one but we would not have to reach and could take the BPA.

I mentioned Sterling Moore in a couple threads and he was in for a visit last year as well. Maybe they heard enough they want to look elsewhere??? who knows...

Weddle signed with the Ravens and the Steelers said they won't pursue Will Allen.

How the heck did Blake get signed before Boykin? Lol I guess Boykin is not that great. Why aren't we looking at Nelson? I remember him picking off Ben

My guess is that Boykin is asking too high of a price.

Kind of says something that Boykin hasn't signed with another team too?

It's still early in The free- Agency period. We may still sign Boykin, who knows. I don't think he would be a bad signing, but he's not vital IMO.
I think most people would agree that Boykin is considered a slot cornerback. We have Golson and Gay to fill that role.

Boykin played OK when he finally got some playing time, but that was about it just ok.
Our secondary stunk last season and being the best of the worst is it really saying much.

we dont need any FAs cbs ot s. we are totally loaded and have vastly improved at all positions on defense.
with this new and improved defense along with our phenomenal offense, there is absolutey no reason not to cruise to the superbowl

LOL you guys are optimists. Other teams have improved as well. I do agree however, that big free agency signings aren't the key. Here is to hoping we hit it in the draft. I think our coaches prefer Corners who are physical and can tackle. I saw Boykin as a finesse CB, he slipped a lot too.

Obviously (lol)...they know more than what we do in regards to the rookies that received zero playing time last year. Maybe they feel the Grant and Golson are upgrades over anyone they can get in via FA.

I had high hopes that they would pull the trigger on a #1 CB or high caliber Safety, after Art II's statement about wanting improvement. They haven't even brought in a DB of any caliber and that concerns me that they believe the same thing they believed in the past...we can get by with a weak backfield as long as everything else is addressed.

With it being a passing league...I don't think we can get by with a weak backfield much longer.
