Just saw several posts on twitter that said "Weddle is not in Foxboro and no meeting has been set up between him and the Pats" Last I saw three teams had made an offer to him and they were not one???

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette said it "sounds like" free agent S Eric Weddle is leaning toward signing with the Patriots.

He is visiting the Patriots on Monday. Weddle has offers from four teams on the table, but he is expected to narrow the list to two this week. Along with the Patriots, it could make sense for Weddle to join the Raiders. Oakland has more money to spend than New England and plays in the same division as the Chargers, who Weddle had a very public falling out with last season. The Cowboys, Steelers and Panthers are also reportedly involved.

I knew from the beginning there was no chance, not sure why everyone got all excited thinking there was a possibility this happened.

I'm honestly surprised he didn't choose Oakland, I think they are closer then the Ravens but guess they didn't want to pay him that much.

Glad we didn't if thats what we would have had to pay out. I wanted him but not at that price.

The Ravens were not offering the most money; and they are not winning any rings. So why them? Well, doesn't matter. After we torch him up in the secondary, he'll wish he signed with us.

He cant cover Green, AB , Coates and Bell. We'll make him say, " Daddy I don't want any more. " LOL.

I hate the Ravens too... but they are still one of the most winningest franchises over the last 5 years.... they have stability in key areas (front office, Head coach, QB).

I still think the Steelers should be trying to convert WR'S as other Teams are doing . The way the rules are the contact Safeties are a thing of the past . We need ball skill, fast, rangy, gu
Rather protect Ben than sign a Safety with that much age . The draft has some good talent at CB and Safety we just need to pick the right ones this time ..If they look at the tape they can clearly see that we need awareness and we need speed . This draft has guys with that combo..

I kind of had a feeling with the Okung/OT news, we weren't really serious about Weddle. We couldn't afford to sign Weddle AND a decent FA OT.

Difference being, a guy like Weddle or some other FA will help immediately. Not going to get much from a draft pick in his first season.

I would hate to see how that would affect our already poor tackling.[/QUOTE]

Couldn't be any worse . Just get faster guys who can actually get into position to tackle and just teach them to wrap up and hold on. This is where the NFL is heading anyway, most big hits are fouls anyway, better to take the ball or bat it away than to make big hits ...

Fear no fellas, there are other decent safeties available in free agency. Sure to bring an upgrade to our secondary play.

Probably not, but as bad as our DB'S are if we get a good one he should still be an upgrade early in his career.

Weddle is the enemy now. You know how pissed I am about us being swept by them last year. Cost us homefield in the playoffs. Anybody but the Ravens.

you never know.. Clinton Dix and Randall played a ton their rookie years (16 for dix, 15 for randall) and Cyprien for the Jags played a lot (15 as a rook) just to name a few off the top of my head. A lot of things involved but I could see a rookie safety getting more and more time as the season progressed.
