I often wonder if they would have taken Stanford's Henry Anderson last year if they didn't take the body catcher Sammie Coates as insurance for Martavis. Still bummed they didn't.

I agree I know there was a ton of talk here about him. As for Coates I am good with the pick, I think we will see what he can do next year. Also in this day and age of passing a wr is a nice pick....you know the rich get richer.

Over a season statistically we stop the run just fine. But the last 3 times we played Baltimore they were running the ball right up the middle. A decent NT could stop that. With that said, CB and CB

    1. OLB- who can get after the quarterback
    2. DT/DE - with pass rush ability
    3. SS-not afraid to blitz the quarterback

    No particular order

Scratch the TE off of my list. SAFETY, OLB, CB. depending on who
the Steelers purge CB may not be in play. Please just say goodbye to Will Allen,
Cortez Allen, Shamarko Thomas & Antwan Blake. How much does this save?
I bet enough to cover this years draft choices. Budget solved.

I like it, if they were to bring Shark back I am fine with that he is good on ST and is a high Character guy. As for the other 3......don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!!!!!

I also think you have to have DT on the list, maybe even higher then OLB????

You gotta think with McLendon still unsigned that we are thinking DT relatively early. Depending on what else FA has in store our needs are subject to change. They are basically all defensive needs tho.

    S, OLB, CB, DT

We could also use a back up T or G (especially if Beachum is out). Possibly a back up DE too.

Yeah if McClendon doesn't come back I think DT is a lock for our 1st round selection. We could nearly have our pick of the litter, and it would be a quality player to boot.

I think my present top 3 draft needs/wants are:

    DT
    Edge
    S

I would bump DT down if McClendon signs, or some other FA dude.

Shark is a workout warrior, can't grasp the defense. Cut him immediately, he has had his chances. Time to give real football players a chance.

I am not sure how I feel about that, we could save 675k by cutting him and this class is loaded at S. However now with the MB thing DHB may be needed more at WR and less on ST which is where Shark shined. I agree with you about him not being able to grasp the D but he is needed on ST, but a cap hit of 788k is a lot, imo! Your probably right cut him and draft 2, love the guys in this draft class.

    CB
    DL
    OLB

I want to clarify that the reason I didn't have safety in there is because of the amount of free agent safeties that are available. But if they take a safety in the top 3 picks, I wouldn't blink because it's not like we don't need talent back there. Maybe in the 4th round I'd hope?

I'm thinking that if we add a veteran safety, draft a new # 1 cornerback and then add depth to the D-line and OLB (JJ is a bum), we can take our pass rush up a notch AND upgrade the secondary. Which is a win all the way around.

    Give me your thoughts.

i think with mitchell and golden we can draft a safety this year, or even two. this is a pretty good class of safeties.

    DE/OLB - lee- dodd- ogbah
    safety- bell- cash- thompson- davis
    CB- canady- white- sanchez
    wr - listenbee- peake
    safety - simmons- powell
    OL - thuney
    CB - williams - brown
    DE - weatherly- lowery

i could live with something like this.

Yup, but only after the draft. I like to leave as much suspense as possible.

I sometimes daydream about being an NFL owner and how I'd open up a contest to the fans where 5-10 people could win access to the war room on draft day(s). I think that'd be a pretty awesome thing to do to give back to the fans.

I was being sarcastic with the 3 CBs picks because the Steelers never have real good CBs.

Yeah... They've had a tendency to swing and miss at that position in recent years. I do think Golson will be a heck of a slot guy though.
