Mike Silver says free agent OT Russell Okung will visit the Steelers.

Interesting. Maybe we think Beachum will sign elsewhere? Not as high on AV as we think?

I think it's more they aren't high on Mike Adams as the backup to AV and Gilbert. Beachum is likely gone, although he gets cheaper every day. Because of Okong's injury history, we would not be looking at him as a starter. He's a decent fill in the gap guy.

I don't think Adams is a FA. Something to do with him being on the PUP list last year. Might be wrong though.

You are correct. I'm just suggesting they may not be happy with him as the backup to both tackle positions.

If he could stay healthy it would be a good signing, they need the depth I have no faith in Adams being good enough to play after his back injury.

Adams is just not that good of a pass blocker . He needs to be in a run 1st. PA system. The Team could use a better bu than Adams..

How the mighty have fallen. From #6 overall pick, pro bowler and SB champ to interviewing for a backup LT spot... Though if he does come here I wonder if he'll displace AV.

I don't think so. I have pretty high hopes for AV this season. He has the work ethic and progressed nicely last year. If he can get his hand placement right, he has the potential to be a monster. Hopefully he works out with Tunch this off season.

Yeah. Extrapolate his progress over last season and he will excellent by the time we hit the Super Bowl.

Well, if we find a CB......

the guys they are bringing in are at least starting quality. They may not be handing the FA the job, but it definitely means they aren't as high on AV as some on here. We've brought in a couple starting caliber OT's, tried to sign Beachum and had a private meeting with a first round OT in the upcoming draft. It's pretty obvious we're looking for a starter at the position. Not a back up.

I would welcome this, I like AV and he is a great story but we also need competition and depth for Ben's Blind Side!!!!!

    Actually the steelers and seahawks are playing tic for tac;

It’s the second half of simultaneous contingencies between the Steelers and Seahawks. Pittsburgh is talking to Okung in case left tackle Kelvin Beachum leaves in free agency. Seattle has reportedly talked to Beachum in case Okung leaves.

And then there is this on Okung:

Okung, 28, has not played all 16 games of a regular season since he entered the league as Seattle’s sixth-overall draft choice in 2010 because of numerous injuries.

Remember when we signed another always injured tackle from the cards, Levi Brown, he never played a down for us
    went on IR and retired.......

He probably wants a starters contract and he won't get that here. Ditto Beachum. The don't give starter contracts to injured players let alone ones who may not be starters.

If our front office took that approach we would never sign a FA, remember when our front office signed a former 1st rounder who couldn't catch a cold.....yeah he had a pretty good season too. Some times it works sometimes it don't......

AV got a lot of help in 2015. While I'm excited about him it only makes sense to look at starting caliber OT. By the way we just offered Okung a contract

Yeah but was he impressed with the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ they offered, Okung represents himself in negotiations it might be easier to get a deal done.
