Yeah but is it worth what it will cost? I am asking cause I don't know much about him. I know he is probably just one contract player? Ain't he in his 30's

Yeah I would take Weddle in a second. I think him and Mitchell will make a great tandem. I'm actually expecting a huge year from Mitchell this year.

I wonder if Weddle is sitting there thinking I am gonna mess with Steeler fans, first I'm going to start following ben and Harrison and a bunch of others on twitter and then after a day switch to the raiders. Man that is gonna be hilarious. I think the only thing that needs said is this team knows how to handle a beard so give us a try.

    Whew! No comment

Well I suppose this does help the Steelers in a way. KC does draft behind TS and now Oakland will probably not take a CB.

All I wanted to do was find out the draft order so I took the 1st Google hit which turned out to be a San Diego paper's mock march 9. I guess Smith was not signed yet. But obviously CB was a need for the Raiders. Anyway the guy was making sense so I took a look at who he picked for TS ???? I had not seen this name before on Steeler boards.

    14. Oakland (7-9) – Eli Apple, CB, Ohio St., So.

    25. Pittsburgh (10-6) – Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia, Jr.

Floyd could be this draft class' best pure pass rusher and would be a steal here for the Steelers. Top needs: LT, OLB, DB, TE

    26. Seattle (10-6) – Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor, Jr.

No one stockpiles defensive lineman like the Seahawks. Billings is one of the most intriguing defensive tackle prospects in this draft class. He exhibits rare traits as an interior run defender, but his sack production (5.5 sacks) suggests he could be a "three-down" player in the NFL. Think a poor man's Aaron Donald. Top needs: OL, DT, OLB, CB, WR

Many fans have Billings in their mocks. Anyway so far so good this off season.

At pick #25... Steelers should go best available Safety and then CB in round 2, even if they do get Weddle.

    Leonard Floyd Overview:

    PLAYER OVERVIEW
The Bulldogs' 3-4 scheme has helped pad the statistics of several edge rushers from Georgia in recent years, but few boast Floyd's raw tools. Floyd burst onto the scene as a true freshman, leading all first-year SEC defenders with 6.5 sacks (among his 55 tackles) in 2013. Floyd struggled with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery and kept him out of the Belk Bowl in 2014, but posted similar numbers as a sophomore, leading the Bulldogs with 6.0 sacks.
    STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
While sporting a relatively lanky frame, Floyd shows surprising power in his hands and complements it with burst off the edge, agility to avoid blockers and a relentless motor. With an injury-free 2015 season and the expected growth after another offseason in the weight room, Floyd looks like a solid bet to once again rank among the SEC's elite edge rushers and establish himself as a highly regarded NFL prospect.

How many of these "lanky" outside pass rushers actually become stars in the NFL? Seems like they bust or fail to live up to expectations as much as anybody. Aaron Maybin, Jarvis Jones I just don't like drafting these guys with thin frames, and hoping they can bulk up AND maintain the explosiveness and speed they had in college, where they could blow by college level OTs.

Weddle would prefer to stay in California where he was born and raised, and he already knows the AFC west division, plus he would get to play against the chargers twice a year to rub it in, if it comes down to the same money, or even if we offer a little more than the raiders he will go with the raiders: I'm betting weddle would prefer to stay in california and in a division he is very familiar with, so I dont think we have any advantage in signing him over the raiders.....

    • La Canfora wouldn’t be surprised if free agent S Eric Weddle was still mulling his options come next week.
    Also:

Newly signed Raiders CB Sean Smith said he has spoken with free agent S Eric Weddle before he signed a big-money deal with Oakland.

I was talking to him before I even came up here,” said Smith. “Look, if we were to add Eric Weddle, it would just be so special. But regardless of who we add, I know (assistant defensive backs coachRod Woodson) and (secondary coach Marcus Robertson) are going to make it work in the back-end. But Eric Weddle is definitely a special player and I think if we can get him, we’ll be alright.

    • Vic Tafur mentions that he expects some news regarding Weddle’s visit plans at some point today.
    • Scott Bair reports that Weddle is, in fact, a target of the Raiders, but he’s expected to take his time with this process.
    • According to Bill Williamson, the Raiders’ interest in Weddle appears to be more from their newly signed players than the front office.

Every day that passes, Weddles chances at a big contract get smaller, and our chance of landing him get better. Teams with big need go early in FA, then the market drops to reality.

Who else is in the mix? Patriots... he'll probably sign with them. He probably would see them as having a better chance.
