Wow! Denver is screwed, no QB at the helm.

Who can they get? Fitzpatrick? They may have too.

Ouch! Elway was really upset about that! What did they expect? You rode him for a #1 seed after selecting him in the 2nd and grooming him, just to hand the ball back to Manning in the playoffs and not negotiating until Manning made a decision to retire.

Elway should have ponied up earlier on Miller, then he'd have had the franchise tag to use on Ossy. Elway grossly underestimated the market for a QB, but how could he???? He's an ex-QB; He (more then most GM's) should know the value of a QB in today's market place.

Denver is done, they lost two O-lineman on a line that couldn't run block to begin with; they lost Jackson and Travethan; and no quarterback.

And if he thinks the defense can just win him 10 games again, he'd better think again. Go look at the record of Wade Phillips teams defense in the second year he's been the co-ordinator. Not very good. Teams get the film and dissect Philips defenses in the second year him becoming the Defensive coordinator.

In short, the Broncos will have to watch as the Chiefs and Raiders win that division.

I would say the Texans overpaid by a wide margin. The guy did ok at first, but faded down the stretch. Maybe it will work out for the Texans, but this is an asinine contract imo. The sample size is way too small to justify those numbers

I don't blame Elway. The contracts given out to these mediocre QB's is insane and a lot of GM's I am sure are pissed over it. If these QB's are getting these contracts, then elite QB's $ is going to skyrocket.

Really surprised Denver hasn't made a move on Fitz, they just proved they can win with a game manager.

Aren't the Broncos trading for Kap?

There are definitely a lot of stories about them wanting him. I don't think they're trading though because didn't Kap just flat out get released or something?

Yeah I was telling some of my buddies at work today when they were acting like Denver was dumb for letting Brock go. I told them actually Houston was dumb and all Denver needs is a game manager. No WAY has Brock done enough at this point in his career to warrant such a deal. I reminded them that Houston is also the same franchise that thought David Carr was a franchise qb as well.

the point is they could have locked him up before the season ended for less. All they had to do was tell him that this was his team next year and not play this waiting game for Manning. everyone knows there's no way Manning makes it through a whole year of playing and gets to the SB. So, it's a no brainier that you have to move on next year anyway!

O'Brien of the Texans is known as a QB whisperer. He says that Osweiler has it all to be a good QB in this league. That's what their basing giving him all that money. And they gave him the going rate. Elway didn't want to pay the going rate. So what's Elway going to do? Give the same going rate to Kapernick? RGme or Fitzpatrick?

He's going to give 18.5 mil to someone. It should have been to his own guy.

So thats where we are now? Giving big contracts for potential? Real dumb way to hand out contracts. Houston GM better hope that pans out. It wasn't the going rate until dummies started throwing money at these average QB's this FA period. Now its the going rate thanks to their incompetence. Real glad Ben is on his last contract, what are the top QB's going to get now.

Brock looks like he may have the goods but you dont hand out big money until you are proven.

Charles Barkley was talking about how much different the NBA is now because he said used to you got paid based on what you HAD done and now guys get paid based on what they THINK they can do. Apparently the NFL is headed in the same direction.

Sad. Some of the people on this board would make better GM's.

We'll see how it plays out. Lots of QBs come into the league with all of the tools to succeed, but many lack the intestinal fortitude. It's possible that Elway and the Denver coaches had misgivings about whether Brock would have what it takes to truly lead the team through thick and thin. Remember, he's never had to start at QB for an NFL team that didn't have the best defense on the other side of the ball. I keep thinking back to our regular season game vs. Denver. When we made our comeback, our defense played lights out. However, Brock also had a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights look as the game moved on. Nobody knows him better than the Broncos' organization.

Right now it may look like they blundered, but if they had a dollar value that they weren't going to exceed, I commend them for not panicking and exceeding it if they don't think the guy was worth it.

The NFL has been that way for a long time. One example would be Ryan Leaf!

Here we go again. Faneca was pissed that Grimm wasn't named head coach and then he got Zierlein as his OL coach.

Zierlein was terrible. Mahan was a nightmare. That OL was garbage. No idea how they won Super Bowl 43 with that number of penalties on the OL. Was it 6?

Money is always a factor. Faneca was disgruntled in his last season as a Steeler. He said he would not be a Steeler before the start of his last season.

Yes Faneca was pissed because he was being paid half his worth. Who wouldn't be?

That doesn't change the fact he hated his OL coach, the new blocking scheme, and was pissed that Porter left.

I think it is funny how people have selected memory on items/ issues. They are all same show me
the money, and 97% will leave. Alan Faneca for that time was the highest paid OG in the league.
He wanted to be paid again, the Steelers don't do too many high 3rd contracts( See Joey Porter).Save for Qb's. AB contract should
be interesting, very interesting? Just for the record, I loved big Red.
