I've seen a lot of Chargers game in recent years. He can block. He may not be a steamroller but I have no complaints. That's how he started in SD, Green was the blocking TE behind Gates. Turns out he has good hands, speed, and happens to be 6'6" 240. He's not the greatest route runner but he's been working on it and he's only 25. When Gates was out last year, Green filled in and did a very nice job. I think he's about to really come into his own and Steeler Nation will love this kid.

I had mentioned getting Chandler at TE in another thread. I just didn't think we had a shot at Green; figured someone would throw stupid money at him. There are no guarantees in the NFL but this one has a high chance of being a great addition. Hats off to Colbert and company here.

Green is more of a receiver than a blocker weighing in at 240 he doesnt have the bulk to block the bigger D lineman, we will see how that works out. I'm glad we have him, he is going to be a star asset for Ben, not many tight ends with 4.5 speed.....

He's another weapon to take some attention off of A.B. and Bryant. And I like that.

Green has the speed to create space in the middle of the field in ways we haven't been able to do in a long time. Brown and Bryant. Wheaton and Bell. All of these guys will benefit from the space created by the speed he possesses.

Probably a fair assessment, though he said today that he weighs 250.

Yeah, very frequently NFL teams never adjust a player's weight in the official roster. I remember Hampton being listed at something like 320 lbs for his whole playing career (yeah right). Also, I think Harrison was listed at only 240 until we released him a few years ago, and then suddenly "ballooned" to something like 260 or 265 on the Bengals roster.

I thought he was going to use his speed on the edge and rush the passer. I'm confused.... :hmm:

Good. Maybe he can become an even better blocker then. Let's hope so.

The TE? Then yes yes I do, had to platoon tackle him, no tiny safety was going to take him down

yup, the guy could have changed the TE position if he would have kept his head straight

He also said he plans on adding a little more weight. I bet he comes to camp around 260.

So I was watching some highlights of Green on youtube and what I noticed is how he gets up in the redzone. I feel this is where we seam to struggle the most, now with Green added to the mix we are going to be hard to defend there. With Bryant and Green as tall targets and AB and Bell as inside guys how do you stop that? Add JJ to the mix and you have mis-matches all over the place. Liking this signing more and more.

Good signing! It's about time the Steelers acquired a new-wave tight end with speed. With that said, Heath Miller will be missed. To all of those who are freaking out over Green's blocking ability.... we have Matt Spaeth to block and Jesse James has the potential to be like Miller... total package TE that can block and run underneath routes to go along with Green.

I just wanted to say that I may have given the misperception of not thinking much of Heath. And that's not true. Heath was a Steeler thru and thru and his lockerroom presence will be missed. You can never underestimate a calming, veteran presence on the team. Heath was the one who stablized us in our final drive against Arizona in the Super Bowl; He grabbed Ben a couple of times on that drive to keep him calm and poised.

I'm glad to read these positive post with this signing. I thought it was an overpriced signing. I thought they would have squeezed every penny and put it towards the secondary.

Well, he doesnt need to get to 260, that would hurt one of his greatest assets, his 4.5 speed, the scouts say he is a good run blocker just needs to get better at pass defense, I have no reservations about Green being one of the better tight ends in the AFC North the guy has great catching ability, obviously a new weapon going down the middle and catching the fade as well....

I don't think he would lose too much speed by adding 10 pounds.

I haven`t followed Green`s career, to know much about him,

But... It sounds like we got a pretty solid player, at a fair price...

    I`m happy about that...

At a spot we needed, no less...

Is Omar Kuhn still with us?!?!?!

I have to assume he engineered all the re-signings(contract-wise), and this free agent...

I`m not big on the "business" side of this game, but I can`t believe no other team made him "an offer he couldn`t refuse", to help their Team out,
and move up the "Organizational depth chart"!!
Or, did the Rooney`s realize what they ha, and pay him wha he`s worth?!?
    GO STEELERS!:herewego!:
