Offseason kinda discussion. Heinz Field is already going on 16 years old. Three Rivers was 30 when they replaced it, so we're already halfway there. When the time comes for a new stadium, where do you think they'd put it? Back on the hallowed grounds of Three Rivers maybe? How many seats? They want to host a Super Bowl, so I'd think if they wanted to entice the NFL they'd do atleast 70,000. They've already expanded Heinz once, looks like they regretted not including more seats originally.

I believe there is development already planned for where Heinz field was. Plus I think this stadium will last longer. Part of what killed three rivers was the plumbing. It was all enclosed in the concrete. This stadium deliberately has it exposed so repairs and updates will be easier.

Rest in peace, TRS. I was so sad that day, but yet so excited about Heinz Field. I have no idea what the future may hold.

The PGH area would have to get more hotel rooms before it could
ever hold a Superbowl. Not sure of the people of Allegheny county
could support another stadium, cost build. We are tapped out tax wise
Lets hope Heinz Field lasts at least 50 years.

I think we need a Jerry Jones type Stadium
The economic boom that it would provide would be enormous
Pittsburgh misses out on hosting big time sporting events because of no place to hold them
How sweet would it be to have finals fours
Super Bowls college football championships in the burgh

I've seen the idea of bringing in cruise ships discussed a few times when it comes to hotels.

Your talking a 1.5 billion dollar stadium, and jones put up 750 million of his own money to get the other 750 million from the tax payers, some how I dont see the rooneys fronting that amount of their own money in a new stadium along the lines of a Dallas stadium, and would the tax payers put up the other 750 million match without a fight even if the rooneys put up the matching funds???? Never happen in Pitt in a million years....

Anyone thinking we need a Jerry Jones type stadium, please for the love of God watch this segment on John Oliver show. It goes into great depth on what a ****ty deal they are for tax payers and the cities that get conned into paying for them.

With the way the rule changes and lawsuits are going, probably no need for new billion dollar stadiums - football of the future will all be robotics and virtual reality driven by Pimply Dan types sitting in their Mom's basements. Makes me nostalgic for the familiar aroma of cigar smoke long ago at places like Forbes Field.

Can you imagine the elite fans coming to the SB and boarding a cruise ship that the average room size is 140 square feet?

Who ever was floating that idea needs to do a little more homework.

nobody said for the elite fans but the average fan who does still attend the game would have no problem with it and some cruise ships have suites that would rival anything a hotel could offer. Actually one of the most popular hotel in Amsterdam is called Botel and that's exactly what it is. Its a feasible idea and I feel like it has been done elsewhere. Not for the super bowl but some other big event. I will try to find the article on it as it was a couple years ago that I read it.

    Is this still an issue?
I know in years past when it was brought up, the lack of hotel rooms was an issue. But with the fracking boom there has been a hotel boom in the region. I know in the area where the Meadows Casino sits there used to be one hotel when I was in HS. Now there are 9. And that's just at that exit. In northern Washington County that hotel at the Meadows was the only hotel between there and the Allegheny County line 20 years ago. Now there are 15 with 2 more planned.

They used cruise ships when the Super Bowl was held in Jacksonville in 2004.

With all the fixed bridges in Pittsburgh, how would they get cruise ships in there? What's the depth in those rivers?

I think we are another 20 years from even the thought of a new place. Plus they just did 125-130 million expansion just last year and added another scoreboard. Which has made the place even nicer.

But they would have to go back build on the old TRS site if they were to do anything and that will be hard with all the other businesses popping up around the North Shore now.

Average depth of the Ohio River between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati is 15'. Barges draft 9'. Cruise ships 25-29'. Locks also could not handle them. Plus at pool stage, many bridges only have aclearance of 40'.
