Why you Say?

Despite the retirement of Miller ( who we All Love ) and his lost production we can easily replace it with our short passing game and all our weapons at WR.......... FB is a weapon we will better utilize in the passsing game and don't forget we have spaeth for blocking ( a key to our run game ) and they really like Jesse James, and Grimble......

Also remember Pass defense will be a key in this draft...... AND that doesn't just mean secondary help in Safety ( FS and/or SS ) and CB but also Pass rush....... Pressuring the QB is Key in pass defense and James is OLD, this will be his last season IF he even plays this year.

Now Pittsburgh's BPA philosophy could pose a problem if Henry reaches us in the 2nd rd.

what they do with will johnson and grimble may say a lot. grimble is a good receiving TE. james is a good receiving TE. will johnson is too. nix is a help in the blocking game and he will probably get better as a receiver. spaeth staying healthy is a concern but he is really an under used pass catcher too. he filled in a few years ago when heath was out and caught passes just fine for us, plus his blocking. none are heath but none are first rounders either. i don't see us getting one early but we may in the 7th. i could see it being an early pick next year though.

 

Does it mean we will be drafting another Rob Blanchflower type TE in the 7th rd?

I'd say LaQuan McGowan would fill the bill....

 

Lets hope not, The TE position in the current Steeler offense
will need to produce in 60-70 range/season. To take pressure off of AB/Bell,
Granted it may take 3 bodies to do this.
But a TE that can play will be really needed in this draft. This should be a third rd
selection this year.It is that important since Heath retired.

I'm not looking to replace Heath's production. His production had dropped so I would hope we would want improved production. A Gronk would be nice. With our O-Line improving, the TE can now release more. This opens up the receivers and we know what can happen when they are open. Toss in Bell with the short passes and this is turning into a great offense.

Now all we need is a few more midget CB's who can play 10 yards off.

the last 3 years we had more weapons then ever so take that into account. With that said I agree with the Gronk statement and that is why I am high on Higbee, this kid could open the field. imo

This very well true. But this line isn't far from being able to handle the duties without the TEs help. Still need the RB to pick up the blitz.

No no no by no means did I mean he would put up Gronk numbers I meant he was going to be that type of te. A pass catcher, is what I meant.

Yeah I know but Gronk is really known as a receiver 1st, the casual fan don't know or don't care that Gronk even blocks. What they know is this dude catches balls, and a lot for TD's. Where I am going with Higbee is he is out of that mold. He can catch the ball and his size/hands may allow him to be a very good redzone target as well as James. The other thing is watch his game film, the game vs Indiana and watch his block on the td run...I posted the link in one of these threads. This kid misses on some block as well but he engages a lot and I feel could turn into a 4th round gem. Anyways my point is he is no Gronk but who is? What I see on this kid is a player who catches everything and blocks, and with a 4th round grade I will take it. jmo
