Wow, just seen this. What a player for the Steelers. No show boating. Just went out and did his job. Class act. One of my favorites. Aaron Smith was a lot like that with his character. It is a shame he can't be here next season for another super bowl victory. Good luck Heath.

    Thanks, HEEEEAAAATTTHHH!!!!:clapping::rawk::drinks::herewego!::herewego::yeehaw:

    Sad day, for Steeler Nation....

Almost feels like a funeral to me...

Don`t want to be morbid, and there`s not much I can add to this...

But I really thought we had another year or maybe two, to watch him on the field...

Pretty much everything I`m thinking about him, has been said...

I was reduced to "liking", or "agreeing" with posts that had been made, when I got home...

He was as dependable as you could possibly want, and was Ben`s "security blanket", for quite awhile,

along with being a great mentor, to the kids coming into the team...

He was a rare breed of skill, and integrity, that we just don`t see much, anymore...

I`m sad he`s not gonna be on the field anymore, but, he has earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants!

Thanks for the years of watching you in Black and Gold, leading the way, by example!

Enjoy your health and happiness with your family!!!:drinks:

    #83 to CANTON H.O.F.!!!!:good:

I wish he could have given it 1 more year or gave us a heads up. Regardless #ThankYouHEEEATH. Hopefully he will be coaching the Outlaw and I know he will remain around the team. When he gets into the HoF in like 10-15 years.. I wonder if he will draw a bigger crowd than Bettis?

Heath was the consummate professional, one of the all time great Steeler. I'm glad he went out on his own terms, Heath was the epitome of class.

I'm not so sure about that. Seems like a Polamalu-esque (forced) retirement. There was every indication he was going to be a cap casualty.

Indisputable: best tight end in team history.

Wasn't ready for this, thought for sure he'd be playing for one more year, especially with how close they seem to be getting to another ring.

Don't think anyone saw retirement coming, maybe a cap casualty (although I doubt it) but definitely didn't think he'd retire.

Were in trouble at TE, hope James can step up.

Thanks for everything Heath, you represented the Steelers well, one of best to ever don the uniform :drinks:

When I first read it, it reminded me of yul Bryner in the movie " Ten Commandments" and that's why I responded by completing that quote....

For the record....... I started a thread to shout HEEEAATTHHH one LAST time for our HOF TE!!!!

Sounds like Ben has known about it for a while. Made it seem like he may have been one of the only people that knew it was coming.

Wow, stunned! Just got home and seen the news, another sad day for Steelernation!! Hines, Troy, Brett and now Heeeeeeath!
Thought for sure he would hang on one more year and help them get the ring next year.
Good luck to you Heath in your life after football, your were one of the classiest and most underrated players of the game and I am glad I got you see you play your final game in the NFL in person!

Not even sure what to say here that hasn't been said by everyone. Feeling pretty sad right now. We are so close. To see him hang it up is surprising to me. But man he was one of my favorite players for years. I wish him all the best. Thanks for all the great memories Heath!

I got mine from reading a lot of books on Indians. Fiction and non fiction. Problem is I don't know which book it came from Fiction or non. After you said it I remember ole Yul saying that in the ten commandments

A great TE and I don't see 1 like him in this draft. I wish him the best , but the Team might have to shift their approach a bit knowing we will be 1 great TE short next season..

So much respect for the man and player, hence the avatar. They broke the mold with that one, he will be sorely missed. Thank you Heath for being an example of how it should be done. :yeehaw:
