To me it is Gay and Boykin . I like Mclendon as well, but I think you guys know who my #3 would be..My first cuts would be Cam Thomas and Blake ...I would probably cut Blake 3 or 4 times just to make sure all the ink we need to never see him again is on multiple papers ..

Gay and either Boykin or Golden although Golden is making more than I thought he did.

They already kept Greg Warren. Does that count against the list?

I would keep Gay and Gradkowski for the next 2.

Not necessarily based on performance, but I'd keep:

    William Gay
    Ramon Foster

    Mainly for leadership and continuity.

I agree completely. Despite what everyone talks about, the game is still won in the trenches.

If you don't sign Foster, you now have a Guard position open. Are you going to draft someone and start them? No. Do we have someone else on our roster that could potentially fill that role? No. If you don't draft a guy, what other FA who doesn't know our system makes us that much better than just signing Foster?

If you don't sign McLendon, you now have a NT position open. Granted the position doesn't play as much as it used to, but his ability to play DE when we go to nickle makes it even more vital. Do we have someone on the roster who can play that role? McCullers maybe, but that is yet to be determined. If not McCullers than who?

Everyone else can more easily be replaced IMO. I would love to have everyone back, Beachum, Gay, and Golden. I am indifferent to Blake and Boykin personally, especially if we bring back Gay. Gay, Cockrell, Grant, Golson, Draft Pick. If Allen surprises us, we could have too many.

Depends on the price for McLendon and Foster. If they accept reasonable deals, sure. Of the two, Foster is the one that we really need to upgrade but I understand your point about who would then start.

finney is on the roster for foster. walton and lyons are on the roster for depth on the DL. mclendon would be nice to have but unless they are really going to use him at DE when not playing NT then i'd just go with mccullers and these other two DE's for depth. at least in theory.

boykin and golden i'd keep as the two FA's, if we had to make the choice. i do expect gay back though. i'd do this simply because of age.

The way I look at it is the offense of line play good so I don't want to lose Foster.
McLendon played well. Don't want to lose him.

Any of those cornerbacks on that list can be replaced. None of them are anything special in my opinion.

I can't pick just 2. I really think we should keep McLendon, Gay, Foster and Golden. Beachum would be nice, but the money we would be paying him should be allocated elsewhere. I'd pass on him.

I have very little to no interest in Boykin, Allen and Thomas for completely different reasons.

Blake could be kept under certain circumstances, but if not that's fine too.

    Foster and Golden

    reasoning:

Foster - no replacement in site, affordable, leader, anchor
Golden - cheap, starter capable, ST versatile, backup both safety spots at worst

Beachum - going to be too expensive, replacement got reps (AV)
McClendon - 66% of time the defense is NOT in a 34
Gay - Age, cost, I think Golson takes slot job in camp
Boykin - Cost, I think Golson takes slot job in camp

Picking two is tough, but for the sake of the thread if you could only pick two who would they be?

Like your thinking here. I went with Foster and McLendon, but had Golden and Cockrell 3/4

I see that now. Didn't notice that he was an ERFA when I read it earlier. That's good news.

Based off who the best players of the bunch are, I'd go Gay and McLendon. First Gay because he's our best player at our worst postion, so we need him. I think McLendon's valuable because he can play a couple different positions down the DL and we could start using him in different spots to give Heyward and Tuitt a rest in the nickel.

We would miss a really solid backup and excellent STer in Golden. Losing Foster would hurt too because he plays above his pay grade and is a locker room leader. Especially with losing Heath, a blow like that would hurt.

Gay and Beachum on a 1 yr deal, need some insurance if AV struggles.
