I'm a USC fan, no he's not worth spending a pick on. He doesn't throw down the field well, he was surrounded by good talent in college. The Steelers don't need a rookie QB IMO.

the more I think about it.. I have a feeling our next franchise QB is already in the league...and will be signed via free agency....

I do not follow college football that closely, but our next QB may still be in High School
or just getting ready to enter college.

We all know Ben is a tough SOB, but I would really look in earnest next year. He's had quite a number of injuries, I'm just afraid the cumulative effect may hinder him in the near future. Especially the concussions. I think Ben has a couple more years for sure, but if they spend a high pick on a QB next year, that may be a nice transition. Coach him up, give him some exposure if Ben is injured. At the very least, they would have a capable number 2.

I haven't researched the QB's at all this year, so not sure if any are worthy successors, but if a good one fell like Rodgers did I wouldn't bat an eye at taking him at #25, because of the issues you just brought up about Ben and his cumulative injuries. You just never know how long it'll take to find a quality QB, and how long your current kinda old QB will last, so at this juncture it would be a risky play to pass up a potential franchise QB.

Like you said I think we're 1-2 years early, but you can't count on future opportunities to get a QB. I just don't know if any of these guys this draft will be franchise QB's, and if not, no thanks.

I agree GB, but just for clarification, I was thinking of the 2017 draft if we're using a rnd 1 or 2 pick. No one jumps out to me in this years class that would overpower the defensive needs.

Care to render a guess on exactly who that might be?

I think Ben got banged up this season because of Bells absence, both in his ability to pick up the blitz but more importantly, the loss of the short passing game.

I don't think its any coincidence that Ben got injured when he was no longer delivering quick passes.

A healthy Bell = a healthy Ben. If Ben keeps getting the ball away quickly, he'll be here another 5 years. I'd look for his replacement in another 2 years.

i disagree BF. DW did quite well in pass protection and the short passing game. if we do get one this year it's not a replacement we would be going after exactly but a backup that MAY turn into a replacement if he does well enough during bens time here. that way we are not putting all our eggs in one basket. we would have time to see if one of these guys, (jones or a mid rd. draft pick) has what it takes to take that step when ben is done. ben will be the guy until he's ready, but we could have a clearer picture by that time for a successor or we keep looking. i wouldn't be against drafting one since landry has improved year by year at this stage. i know most hate him but he has improved every year and hopefully that keeps happening. at least we would have a small sample. i hope he never would have to play until ben retires, but the years are clicking.

At first I was thinking....Derek Carr....but he is too small.....so Im gonna swing my vote to Blake Bortles...or, I just might wish that Decastro can lure Mr. Luck our way... If we want to capitalize on Antonio Brown's prime years we need a QB to come in immediately after Ben hangs it up.....

There's no chance Carr, Bortles, or any other worthy, potential "franchise QB" sees FA.

Should have grabbed Brett Hundley. He'll be Rodgers' replacement in a couple years.

Maybe Rodgers will be Ben's replacement in a few years once Green Bay forces him out in favor of the younger, cheaper Hundley. It'll be the Favre/Rodgers scenario all over again!

We get Rodgers for his final run in the league, we get him another ring, and he buys us more time to find a younger franchise QB. :hmm:

The Steelers won't find Ben's replacement in this draft, so there's no need in wasting a draft pick on a QB when they don't have a 5th or 6th rd pick.

You never know when the next guy will be had. I doubt the Patriots thought they'd drafted a starting QBs when they took Brady.

    Please no.

If Goff slid to 25 he would be a great pick but he won't. He is the only QB I like in the draft.

Lynch is overhyped and had his worst game in his biggest game. He is big, clumsy and slow with no pocket awareness. It blows my mind that any "expert" would call him the best QB in the draft. Lynch is EXACTLY the player scouts say played in a spread style offense and won't translate to the next level.

I like Kessler better than Lynch. Played in a pro style offense, good pocket awareness and knows where he is going with the ball. His arm is questionable and a lot of his throws are low and behind. Cook is the same.

Wentz has ZERO arm strength. Insane that people think his rainbows could work in the NFL.

Cardale Jones has thrown like 10 touchdowns in his career.

    TERRIBLE draft for QBs.

I can see the Browns reaching now. Hahaha.

49ers, Eagles, Jets, Bears and Browns are really the main teams that need a QB right now.

Saints, Chargers and Cowboys all have aging QBs.

Stafford's big arm will always keep him employed. I'm surprised that the Lions haven't scored more points with those weapons though.
