    I think you mean 2008.

Have to disagree about every season being a disappointment that doesnt end in a SB. Im disappointed they didnt win the SB this year but Im very proud of the team and how it played this season.

a good tackling strong safety would help the run defense tremendously.
thats like saying "if" a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass. excuses. how can you leave out the big part of SF run game their qb? that is running the ball and yes it counts. so do 44 yard runs and 19 yard runs. none of this changes the yards per carry these teams had against us in 11 games. sorry.

Lol the guy who took out the best run stopping games of the year is complaining about a more nuanced view of his selective sample... That's rich

You probably wasn't around last offseason when Butler became DC, there was this same discussion going on.

I can definitely see a base 4 man front based on recent draft picks. We've definitely been drafting guys who can fit both 3 and 4 man fronts for 2 years. Tuitt can be excellent as a pentrating 3 tech and a 2 gapping 5. Dupree is almost 270, and I think he could be a solid DE. It would simplify things for him and allow him to focus his natural talents on getting to the passer as job #1. Chick is a natural DE, and would be most valuable to us in that role. IMO Shazier is a natural 43 WOLB. I've been saying it since we drafted him. As good as he is in the middle of our current front, he'd be even better as a pure Will. Elite. I don't think that Derrick Brooks comparisons are off base at all. I also think that getting him out of the middle might reduce his exposure to injuries.

I don't think it's a certainty that we're headed to a 43, but it's a solid possibility. The groundwork has been laid for 2 drafts now.

That's not it. I find it interesting to how the Steelers will adapt and continue to adapt as the game continues to change. And that includes scheme to the type of players they want in this years draft and beyond.

    Totally agree

Early in the year when another team tried to sign Chickillo away from our practice squad, and we countered by elevating him to the active roster... you can tell they are very high on him.

Denvers 3-4 defense is pretty good, ranked 1 it seems their 34 works fine since it's based on the right players to make it work, it's all about the coach getting his pieces to jell together and the right talent to make it work to perfection, dont draft dead beats in the 1st round at linebacker is a good start to have a successful 34, if you have average pieces on defense you will have a below average 34......

It is simple math to me . We need to get pressure with less . We need more speed to cover the quick passing game . I suggested a 1-5-5 walk around Defense against Denver and it looked like we could have used it some. As the OP points out we are in a 2-4-5 a lot and we will need a 4 - something a lot as well. If we had better Safeties a 4-3-4 would be great against passing Teams and in passing downs ..Putting Shazier in the middle with 2 extra SS types as the other 2 LBS, this would give us more speed to blitz and more speed to cover....Then I would use the 1-5-5 in long distance with 3 bigger inside LB'S to apply A gap pressure with the 2 Safety types as the 2 OLB'S...

The big problem is we don't have much quality at DB to do such a movement..

And the Steelers pretty much had their way with that Defense, we didn't score as we should ,but we really picked it apart ..Even with all the great talent that Denver has at DB the key to that Defense is beating the Tackles . The game is moving to pressure with a few and drop a bunch or send a bunch and cover with a few ..This is a huge problem for the Steelers as they can't get pressure with a few, and they for damn sure can't cover with a few ...

Well that scheme will continue to be a 3/4 defense.

    He was waived/injured:

    http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.co...-zumwalt-on-the-injured-waived-list-sign-lb-l

    http://steelerswire.usatoday.com/2015/08/19/steelers-release-lb-jordan-zumwalt-sign-lb-l-j-fort/

He cleared waivers. Teams use the Waived/Injured designation to move on from a player. If said player is not claimed, teams will reach an injury settlement with the player so he can move on (otherwise, teams would just use the IR designation - if they intended to keep a player). Injury settlements arent always reported.

If a player is designated Waived/Injured and is not claimed, and is not given a settlement, then he reverts to IR. I guess that COULD be the case here. But it's rare. If a team intends to keep/pay in full a player, they would just designate him to IR.

I don't know nothing and you can't prove nothing. I'll only admit that I like our front 7.

you do understand that giving him an injury settlement and letting him hit the waiver wire allows the steelers to get out of his original drafted contract and then pick him back up off waivers for less money than him being a draft pick? this seems like what has happened. it's not that rare, but it does save some money and gives him another shot if healthy and his cut will be minimal if any.

"Save for one or two plays, we're right where we want to be"
WELL WE AIN'T WHERE WE WANT TO BE BILL!
