The Bengals are undisciplined thugs, but...

The Bengals are who they are, we all know that, but we're also a very undisciplined team. I watched the game with a lot of friends last night and everyone of them commented on how we are undisciplined. There's various other forums out there I'm a part of (not specific to any team) where tons of people are saying we are also undisciplined.

We have guys continuing to get flags due to their celebrations. That has happened far too often and Tomlin needs to put a stop to it. We have coaches running onto the field and getting mixed up with players. Sure, it actually worked out for us this time, but Peezy could very easily have gotten a flag and he might next time.

Now I understand that was a heated game so a lot of what we saw won't happen again next week, but we've been undisciplined many times in the past as well even when the games weren't as emotional. It needs to stop if we want a chance at going deep into the playoffs. It's going to take our A game to beat Denver, we can't be getting stupid flags due to our undisciplined play.

Won't be a popular opinion, but I don't disagree. Just because others are worse (far worse) and dumb doesn't excuse lapses that you have. I'm hopefully that the Steelers won't act like they did since it was a divisional opponent with bad blood, but the Steelers need to let other teams just implode and not give them any fuel. Who was the DB who challenged the Pats and Brady a few years ago and then the Pats put up like 55 points I believe. Just stop that stuff.

I totally agree that we're not a disciplined team. Yes I know that we were ranked low in penalties but we still made the same mistakes over and over. Shamarko and Willy Gay have both been flagged multiple times for the SAME penalty. I loved Joey Porter as a player but let's be honest. The dude wasn't the smartest guy in the room and I highly doubt he brings a lot of football smarts to our team from a discipline standpoint. I think we do a lot of stupid things like post penalty plays where we push people and Cody Wallace takes stupid shots from 15yds away. These guys that are always trying to "not take no crap" and blah blah blah are really more emotional than they are intelligent. Kemo was like that. A stupid "tough guy" penalty waiting to happen.

I think there's some overreaction going on. We're not that undisciplined.

But we're not that disciplined either. If Shamarko has been flagged 3 times for interfering with a fair catch that is pretty indefensible for him to keep doing it. We had like at least 65yds of penalties last night and multiple personal fouls. They knew it was gonna be an emotional game coming in and even though we wound up winning we could have just as easily have beaten ourselves. They also knew the officiating was gonna be shaky at best. Didn't Tomlin even flat out say not too long ago that he doesn't even really care about the chippy stuff? I personally don't think that's a very smart thing to say. We saw it cost a team a game last night. That could be us going forward. The bengals should be poster boys for how NOT to act when the game is on the line.

I saw a coach going to the ground with a player while celebrating a TD (a couple weeks ago). How is that not undisciplined? That's beyond ridiculous. Our guys have gotten numerous excessive celebrating penalties lately. How is that not undisciplined?

That was Joey Porter I'm pretty sure. Actually even the announcer called Willy Gay's celebration "ridiculous". LOL!

I thought he did it sorta right on the field. Wasn't it that they went down on the ground and started crawling to each other? It's illegal to go to the ground as well.

The one celebration was over the top, sure. The one you can see on several occasions go uncalled. That makes us "a very undisciplined team"? It's overreaction.

Porter was on the sidelines, Gay was not, and it resulted in us getting a flag. Who cares? I do, I care about Steelers players not awarding the other team 15 yards, and I sure as hell care about the coaches condoning such a thing. That celebration carried on for like 30 seconds and involved a coach, that's beyond ridiculous. It needs to stop. It's going to cost us a game

I honestly DID feel like they called that one last night JUST because of the situation and all the chippyness. I didn't realize that penalty could still stand though for over celebration when the play technically never happened since they had blown it dead.

I meant as far as it drawing a flag, Porter and Gay were both on the sideline, I don't think refs can throw a flag for that.

Gay was flagged while he was celebrating in the endzone.

You're right, Gay was flagged when he was celebrating in the end zone because he continued to dance for over 30 seconds. Then what happens, him and Porter both drop to their knees (while Gay is still on the field) and crawl towards each other. This is probably 40-50 seconds after the TD. The coaches can't be condoning that stuff, let alone participating in it.

That's just an example though. It was weeks ago and it didn't hurt us. But there was numerous things yesterday that could have. What if Peezy was flagged for being on the field and Jones didn't overreact? What if that knocked us 15 yards back? Munchak did arm bar Nelson on the side lines. Sure, Nelson reacted and should have probably been flagged too, but that's besides the point. We can't do that stuff vs Denver, NE or Seattle. Those teams do not generally do stupid stuff, especially NE. If we give away free yards, it will come back to bite us. I don't care that it hasn't yet, I would like the coaches to put a stop to it before it hurts us, not after.

I tend to agree about Porter/Gays sideline celebration being excessive but I think they were just pouring it on because of who they were playing. Have to take these two teams actions when they play each other with a grain of salt.

Agree we can't do stupid stuff against Denver.

Hold the presses! Gay wasn't flagged for it! It was Dupree who ran in and did the same dance while Gay was looking the other way. The other guys had just got there saw the Ref, looked like they were about to join in, then checked up to pat him on the shoulder....

How can u watch that game last night and think we are undisciplined? We showed discipline and restraint throughout the game.
I wouldn't have faulted anyone for going after 55 but they didnt.
After the game this staff got a group of men to exit the field without incident and that to me was amazing

I think we had four or 5 personal fouls last night. 2 of them were for plays we've been flagged for multiple times this year.

they need to get rid of the team celebration penalty.. the absolute dumbest rule in football. i don't like gloating, but something as stupid as two guys dancing after a TD shouldn't affect the outcome of the game.

I agree that it's somewhat of a stupid rule too but it is a rule nonetheless. It's like Reagan once said "You don't choose which laws you will obey".

We aren't a highly penalized team at all. So what we get an excessive celebration or two. Maybe part of that opinion has to do with the high number of our nationally televised games are against the Ravens and the Bengals. We always have physical chippy games against them, so maybe the couple extra PF penalties make them think that way about us

Seems to be less and less to me. I throw last nights game out the window. Fans are expecting too much if they think emotions won't boil over in this rivalry. I think we were very poised yesterday given the circumstances.
