Ok so I know there has been tons of talk about him on this board but watching him play this year has made me even more sick to my stomach that we traded up to get him. He has had 3 years to learn from Ben and this is one of the best positions to be in and he just hasn't gotten it. I think it may be time to move on and look for another young project? Now I am not just saying this cause of what happened last night and I know we have Brucie but if we have learned anything this year is we need guys to step up due to injury! Just my thoughts, time to send him packing and draft a young guy this year to learn....Comments?????

agree, there's a reason his college coach pulled him when they got in the red zone.

I thought they traded up for Shamarko though. Either way, not a good round 4 that year.

I was consistently negative on LJ's play up until his great 2nd half against Arizona. Negative to the point where I had several lengthy debates with others out here. After the Arizona game I lauded his coming of age, and felt that we had found a legit backup QB.

Right now I'm thinking my initial instincts were correct. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt a bit more, but the majority of what I've seen of him on the field is not good.

Of course you look to upgrade but they cant use a high pick and in the end i think they keep landry thru next year. If gradkowski doesnt return they need to sign another experienced guy.

In fairness that was a difficult situation for Jones. He probably didn't receive much practice time, the stakes were high, and the weather was bad.

Which is even more of a head-scratcher - WTF was Haley doing making Jones come in cold and sling it around like he had a # 7 shirt on underneath his uniform? What happened to the run game at that point? SMH.

Let's not give a pass to the 4th quarter D. Although they did cause the fumble that eventually led to the bungles meltdown they would have been a big topic today if we lost the game. Have to be on for 4 quarters against the donkeys.

Because the coaches had faith in him. He's been mostly good when he played this year, and we weren't going anywhere being one dimensional to end the game. It was just a really tough situation for him to come into cold with the weather the way it was and the momentum swinging towards Cincy with Ben's injury. He handled it like most back ups would have,

I still think Landry will be a solid back up for us moving forward. One poor performance in a situation like that doesn't change that for me.

Definitely no pass given. They played for 3 quarters. If not for Shazier, we'd be lamenting how we let this one get away.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not faulting Jones at all. I'm faulting Haley for calling plays that put Jones in a position for him (and the Steelers overall) to fail. We could have called run plays to chew clock and relied on our D to close it out (which, in hindsight would have been a mistake since the D fell asleep in the 4th quarter... but still would have been the logical choice given the situation). Taking an extra 2-3 minutes away from the Bengals might have made the difference and rendered any comeback moot.

I though that the play calling on Landry's first series was good. I did not want us to to simply run the ball into the line on 1st down and take a 1-2 year loss. That's the definition of playing in your fears. Landry simply didn't execute IMO.

I was wondering after last night if we might try to upgrade our backup position.

We were losing late in the game, they had no choice but to throw it. You're not going to march up the field in 2 minutes by the running game.

Not sure we're talking about the same point in time. I'm referring to the first two series that Jones took over in the 4th quarter. We were up 15-7 and 15-10, respectively. Yet Haley has him throw 3 of 5 plays on the first series and 2 of 3 on the second. That's 5 of 8 passing plays.

I think you and I have had these debates but I think we were both on the same side and with the same view. I was one that was negative on LJ and yeah after that Cards game I got on the bandwagon. However I am just saying he has gotten a ton of time this year and has 3 years in this system he need to take control. For the love of god what was he seeing on that play he threw into triple coverage. I agree with a lot of posters that replied to this topic, yeah he was put in a big spot and yeah the conditions were bad and yeah he had no reps during the week. My question is how does that affect his decision making, how does that allow him to throw into triple coverge? Just some food for thought.......I totally understand we are talking about our 3rd sting but I guess I expect more.

Steelers offense didn't do much all game, not sure we could expect much from LJ. Even the pick wasn't necessarily a bone headed play. Dare I say it was a good play by 55 and maybe the receiver could have been a little stronger to the ball.

I was going to start a new thread on this but since it's here I'll go

I know it's probably not smart and all but I think we should use a 1 or 2 this draft and get
    A backup QB

I know we have needs but our guys have showed they are very serviceable and really the only time we've had to have someone has been when Ben gets hurt

I think it's pretty clear that had Ben not came back n the game last night it was over
I also think it's pretty clear Landry is not the man

I feel like the team has a chance with the rest of the team but
When the backup qb is in I feel like we have no chance

Wow, totally disagree with the OP. Landry has shown he can come in and run this offense, to throw that out the window because he didn't capitalize in last nights opportunity is just flat out wrong , IMO. Those were horrendous conditions, against a good defense that was swarming after the Shazier hit that lit a fire under their ass.

Finding a B/U QB is the least of this teams worries, my God if they so much as think of wasting a draft pick this year ill puke all over NY Steelerfans keyboard.

I've been saying this for 3yrs now. This guy can't dominate in a preseason against 4-6rd rookies. After cb's .. This position must be addressed for bens replacement...or in free agency. Where is the next charlie batch

Earlier this year you could tell Haley wasn't let Landry throw to the middle of the field, I'm surprised the let him throw in the middle last night.

He's not a #2, hopefully Bruce Gradkowski comes back.

Gradkowski sucks as well. We need to clean house and get some fresh backups
