I know people will say the Steelers have not played a good QB since facing Wilson in Seattle but I actually think the Steelers can get to Manning next week if they blitz him and get pressure on him and take away the middle of the field. The Steelers overall must play much better next week but I still like their chances next week in Denver a lot.

I like our chances if Ben is a full go. Butler should be designing coverages to take away the middle all day. Peyton cannot throw outside the hashes without taking risks. Force him to do that, and he'll serve up at least 1 or 2 picks. Part of achieving that will need to be our offense scoring points to force Denver to take risks on offense.

I know we're getting counted out for next week, but I still have to believe Manning has some rust to knock off, nevermind the fact that he wasn't exactly playing like a rockstar before the injury. I think next week is totally winable with smart play and a good game plan.

It will take more than smart play and a good game plan. We're going to have to play better than we did this week. Ben needs to step up. He's had 3 piss poor weeks in a row now. He makes the offence go and it's time for him to step up and lead the way. Without a big game from Ben, we're not going to win next week. Denver has a very good running game and they execute screens as well as any team in the league. We have to play better next week

Denver will be favored, and they should be. They're at home. Their defense is easily the best in the league, and their pass rush is the best. Now with that said, I agree with the thread starter. If we are going to lose, then I hope we lose BIG. I mean don't just let Manning get comfortable back in the pocket and let him kill us down the field with short and middle patterns..which he loves. No...I say we MUST go all out and Blitz him from all angles. Send 7 and 8 men after him. Even IF he does avoid it and hits for a 70 to 80 yard TD...that's better then allowing him to be comfortable back there and just
picking our D apart on long drives. Second, If Ben can't protect himself out there, then Guts or no guts I would prefer him to not play next weekend. Oh I KNOW he will want to, and will even if at only 30 % of what he is. But him staying healthy long term is more Important. If given a full week to prepare, and the fact that next weeks weather in Denver actually looks to be pretty good for us...no snow/rain or cold....then Jones is more then capable of throwing the same short passes and swing passes that Ben can do...and likely will ONLY be able to do if his shoulder is Indeed separated. As where Landry at least can have the THREAT of heaving a long pass.

Of course I want Ben, and even a Injured Ben to some point is okay. But if he is seriously hurt...the team should not allow him to play. Gotta play field position, definitely have to get the RB's going...both on rushing plays and hitting them with short passes, and we MUST go all out after Manning. It's good that he will play cause unlike Osweiler...Manning is a statue...with NO ability whatsoever to evade pressure. And we all know Manning hates to be hit. I am NOT saying we hit him " Burfict " style and cheap shot him ( No )...just apply the heat...and don't let Manning get comfortable.

I'm feeling better with Denver. I don't mind losing to the forehead, Denver fans have been cool in my book. Aside from talib, the players don't try to hurt you intentionally. With that being said we are banged up, but so is nationwide is on his side. We shouldn't even be here... Maybe the universe is aligning for one for the ages. Stay tuned

If I were a betting man, I wouldn't touch this one... No way to predict how either QB will play.. Manning looked absolutely awful earlier in the season, although they were still winning at the time. He could come back as a rested up vintage Manning.. Or continue where he left off, with 4 INTs vs the Chiefs. We have no idea if Ben will play, let alone how he will play with his shoulder.

Manning will be rusty, probably, so we have that on our side. However, you can't discount that the guy is a field general, plain and simple. If we don't disguise some of our coverages a bit better, we could be in for a long day.

Here's hoping Ben gets a lot of attention to that shoulder during the week. We can't afford to start Jones.

Need 4 quarters of solid Defense. My fear is that Manning will pick apart the soft zone. They need to put him on his @ss early and often.

We seriously might not get a single point on offense if Landry Jones faces the Denver defense. They will eat him alive. Landry Jones is down right bad. He has no awareness and doesn't have "it factor" whatsoever. Hate to say it about a Steelers player, but it is true

I don't expect either QB to chuck it down the field. Need discipline by the safeties to not allow runs and shot passes to go for big gains.

This, 1000% this. This is football, not hockey - there are 4 quarters (hence the name 'quarters') not 3.

I disagree that Manning should be blitzed often.

I know that he was terrible under pressure as in 05 when the Steelers sacked him 5x in the playoffs.

Manning does not have a strong arm any more. An interior pass rush that collapses the pocket where Manning's passing lanes are obstructed is the best bet. Get McCullers big frame in there if he is good to go.

Manning is going to be throwing short passes. His deep ball is weak now. The pass rush will not get there in time. Manning will dink and dunk.

Take away the middle of the field and try to jump the sideline routes that will take longer to develop.

This is a Manning who has more INTs than TDs. Don't play him like he is 28.

If Shazier covers like he did last game Manning will have nowhere to go with the ball. DL need to swat some passes. Keep Boykin in the game- he is a really good player.

We need the Dline to bring their A-game.. Creating pressure with the front 3 or 4, and forcing him out of the pocket would be huge. These DBs are going to have a hell of a time running with Sanders and Thomas 1on1, in Denver, in altitude. As soon as Manning starts moving laterally, his QB rating drops off a cliff. His whole game is timing and rhythm.

I want Ben to start but if he can't we need to support Landry Jones. Let him know that we are behind him, what a hell of a feeling it must be for a QB to start a game knowing that the fans are not behind him. To me that is saying we should just stay home and forfeit the game.

I seem to recall a certain Tebow guy, and his team, being counted out too a couple of years ago. We know what happened there. Time for payback.

Agree, though is it better to have the NT or an extra DB on the field?

I don't think we can win this game with Landry Jones either. Ben must play and he must play pretty damn well for the Steelers to win this game. As for Manning if you rattle him early and disrupt him he will suck and will not snap out of it for the rest of the game. We have seen this with Manning before when he is off his game. When he is bad he is bad and he usually doesn't recover.

Steelers have often used 2 down linemen in pass coverage sets.

I think staying in the base 3-4 will be effective.

On 3rd downs I think nickel would be best. Keep Shazier, Timmons and Boykin out there as much as possible.

If Ben doesn't play, it is all but over. No way Jones can get it done. Peyton is hurting, get some pressure on him, get his jersey dirty a few times, and I think its ours to win. We can beat Denver but they better be prepared.
