Its like we are getting burned by missed 2pt tries. Can we just give it up unless the game is on the line?

Can you name when we've been burned (and by burned, I mean - lost a game) by going for 2?

i don't blame him for that.. and I'm no Tomlin supporter.. the offense was rolling and that would have practically been a kill shot with the way our offense has been playing, as well as our defense.. nobody could have foreseen Ben getting hurt and the hysteria afterward.

I thought the 2pt was going to come back and bite them but it never mattered.

Im waiting for it to bite them but I dont think it has yet, its been more helpful then anything.

It was not helpful today at all. It hurt us quite a bit. If we had just kicked the damn extra point, we would have been up by 16. That likely would have forced the Bengals to go for 2 points on their first TD. Maybe they get it, maybe they don't. If they don't get that 2 point conversion, then it would have been tied after their 2nd TD rather than us needing a miracle to win due to being down by 1. Sure, they could have gotten the 2 points, but the point is we had a chance to force their hands, and we blew it due to poor coaching.

The reality is we probably should have lost that game. Thankfully we won and I'm going to enjoy it tonight and tomorrow, but we played poorly and had some terrible coaching today too. Things need to be better next week or we're going to be done.

You're assuming too much. Fact is, it didnt change the outcome. Had the Steelers kicked the extra point, then Bengals just would have kicked an extra point and been up 17-16. We would have still won 19-17. Nothing changed.

Lewis was conservative all game, no way he goes for 2 early. The 2 pt didn't cost us a thing, but it could have helped us a lot if they got it.

Assuming we kicked and went to 16, the bengals would've just kicked on their last TD and gone up 17-16. It didn't matter. I like that we go for two, and we've been pretty successful doing it this year.

No I'm not assuming too much. After their first TD, it either would have been 16-6 or 16-8. With the way their offence had been struggling, no way they kick an extra point. They would have went for a 2 point conversion. We would have forced their hand.

No, it didn't, this time, but it made no sense to go for 2 at that point. Our offence had been struggling all game long and it didn't make situational sense. Tomlin has to stop this **** about going for things based on a hunch. That's not good coaching.

I've said it before, it's like Coach T has the old card college coaches used to carry that told you when it makes sense to go for two and does the exact opposite of what it says.

Going for two at that time would have made it a three possession game. It was the best option to try for two, bottom line.

When the Steelers scored to go up 15-0, the Bengals where still 2 scores(plus conversions) from tieing or taking the lead. Missing the 2 point conversion or kicking to go up 16-0 wouldnt change that. You take a chance for 2pts to make it a 3 score game at 17-0.

I agree, and this coming from someone like me who is fed up with MT's boneheaded "gut" calls. This was a no-brainer really.

I wasn't in favor of it either. There were incredibly stupid decisions made in this game tonight and honestly without a complete bungles meltdown we lose this game. I have no doubt in my mind about that. We were winning on the ground so Landry, who has more picks than td's, is back there throwing it and stopping the clock and then turning it over. We are playing tight coverage on d and dominating and then we go back to the stupid prevent cushion nonsense. We know the refs are flat out not gonna give us a fair shot and we still have guys reacting over and over and drawing stupid penalties on themselves. Shamarko has literally had multiple penalties FOR THE SAME THING this year and he gets another tonight. That crap should be nipped in the bud. There are just so many things to annoy me from a coaching standpoint tonight. I know some can say "We won. Who cares?" and blah blah but I really feel like these are legit criticisms.

This is the most zen like thing I have told myself to deal with the way this team does us over and over. I'm always delighted when we win and I'm never surprised when we lose. That right there is how I am learning to cope with Tomlin teams. LOL!

I completely agree, I am sick of people saying the illogical 2 point conversions dont cost us, when you are up 15-0 against a rookie qb late in the second half, kicking the 96.3% sure extra point puts the pressure on the opponent, had we went up 16-0 and Cincy scored there first TD, they would have been forced to go for 2, instead they didnt have to, cause Tomlin made his ill timed decision.

Had the bungles failed the 2 point score it would have been 16-6, then 16-9 when they kicked there field goal, with less than 2 minutes to go the score would have been 16-16, and we would have not needed a complete Bungle implosion to still have a chance to win.

Tomlins attempted 2 point conversions in this situation and against the browns, and in the seahawks game are just plain idiotic, I dont understand why he goes for 2, when the mathematics isnt on his side

Lots here I agree with. As soon as Landry came in the game I said out loud "OK. This is his first playoff game and it's raining. They will call handoffs and dump-offs to get him in the flow of the game and some confidence."

Nope. Shotgun. Pass up the middle. Haha.

Also, screen passes to Bryant and other short stuff with a minute left and 2 timeouts were excruciating to watch. If Burfict lets that ball sail over AB's head like a decent human being with 18 seconds and no timeouts left... I think it's a different outcome. Oh yeah, I was furious at the timeout used after a draw play. Smh.

"We made the required splash plays to win the game, obviously... And performed well in all 3 phases tonight. The Bengals helped us out with their inimitable stupidity and we own that."

i was ok with them going for two there. up three scores would have put even more pressure on the bungles.

Ordinarily I like our aggressiveness going for 2. However, last night I didn't like going for it because of the caliber of defense we were up against, and how Ben had been strugglig for the majority of pass plays. I just thought the probability of success wasn't there. I didn't hate the call, but I would have taken the 1.
