The Bucs just fired Lovie Smith which seems pretty stupid. They only gave the guy two seasons and out the door.

Wow, these owners are so stupid. 2 seasons is ridiculous to build a team, its not like he had a lot to work with when he took over.

The Direct TV commercial is a fitting lesson, don't be like this man only its dont be like the Cleveland Browns.

Blowing things up every couple years is how YOU DONT succeed.

    SMH.

Yep and the Bears fired Smith after going 10-6. Where are they now?

Add Tampa Bay to the list, wow didn't see that one coming? What an overhaul, it's a
whole new mentality in the NFL now. Its almost like Hockey the way they fire coaches LOL

At least he knows he was fired. Lovie could have been "retired." Haha.

I told my buddy who is a titlans fan that you have to give a coach at least 4 years to prove himself. Chuck Noll won exactly 1 game his 1st year and didn't get much better the next year.

I think it would depend on the team and the coach and the talent and a number of other factors.

4 years is a long time if you know the coach is a bad choice. The Steelers have been fortunate with their choices... but what if we had been stuck with Mike Tice for 10 years?

Sure there is a LOT that goes into it, the scouts, the GM, and even the owners all have a part to play. While 10 years is a long time 1 year is WAY to short. You would think that the team had done research before they hired someone and not just draw a name out of a hat. If they did their homework then you would think they would be more committed to a coach than teams like leaveland does. IMHO if you bring in a coach you commit to him and give him time to implement his plan.

Yes there are exceptions to the rule, but doing it year after year is a recipe for total disaster.

Speaking of Coughlin, does anyone else think he was forced out? Seems like he is interviewing quite a bit these past few days. If he resigned to maybe mull retirement, he sure didn't take much time to think about it. I know he didn't say he wanted to retire in his goodbye speech, but I think the Giants forced his hand. He doesn't seem like the guy to just switch teams.

He was totally forced out and basically made him the scape goat by not getting rid of anyone else, even gave the OC the HC job. The DC even kept his job and the defense was horrible!

Did you see Coughlin blow Mara off after his speech? Now we know why.

I did not see the speech at all unfortunately. And that was the first I heard of the blow off.

So what is there one vacancy left in Tenn? Looks like Haley/Munch might be safe this year

Did Philly hire anyone yet? And what about Payton and the Saints? Heard rumors he may leave.

But yeah, bearing any surprise late off season firings, our staff should remain intact.
