I gotta think this is the last one. Hopefully they have a run for him like they did for Bettis. :)

FWIW, Dulac or one of those beat writers said he will be playing one more year.

I tend to agree given the level of play from our other LB's.

And Bouchette (I think) said that this was his last year. I'd like to see him back one more year. He's the toughest guy in the room and maybe it will rub off on the young guys!

Harrison could stay in the league for 10 more years and still out hustle/out contribute Jarvis

With the way he works out, I'm not against it, and at 37 he is still making plays. He could still make a few at 38.
I think he wants the all-time Steelers sack record, and he is a couple short.
But, the more important question will the Steelers want him back?

I hope this is his last year. We need to move on to either Jarvis Jones, draft pick or free agent. I love James Harrison for everything he's done as he reminds me of what the game use to be like. Tough, rugged and physical. But I think we need to move on with the youth movement.

I think the second sentence above pretty well sums it up. With two first round draft choices at OLB, James should be over the hill. But he still will help that unit.

I think he comes back if the Steelers do not win the SB this season. If they happen to win it, I then believe he will retire. Once he is officially not in the NFL as a player, then the Steelers should seriously look into hiring him as the Strength and Conditioning coach. The guy pretty much lives in the gym.

He is a Vet and knows when to go off script . He reads plays very well and he puts himself into position to make plays ...We need to keep him and stop drafting OLB'S until we get the coverage fixed ... Confidence has a lot to do with Football and I can clearly see our guys loose confidence as the games go on ...Hard to keep that motor up play after play when everything inside of you knows the QB is going to hit a open man before you can get to him ...

The OLB'S we have can and will play much better when we get some NFL talent on the backend...

I think if we win the superbowl he retires. Otherwise, we'll see him back.

I get what people are saying about it being time for our other OLBs to step up, and agree in part, but while Jones can't beat out a 37 year old, that 37 year old is one of the greatest LBs to play the game.

I think it's rather simple based on the answers to these 2 questions - A) can he still make plays? and B) is there someone better that we already have to step into his shoes?

I hope James is back next year, too, but will respect whatever decision he makes. I love his dedication, commitment, and excitement for the game and to his team. The brotherly bond he has with Ben always makes me smile.

Go get that ring, Ben! Do it for Deebo!

Honestly, I have to agree - especially given the latter statemtent. This offseason is going to be an interesting one for the FO. A lot of decisions will set up who they will/can keep, and who they don't.

As for LB's, Harrison is due $1.25M in 2016, a very reasonable number. But the larger issue is who they see a part of the LB core past 2016. Jarvis is up after next year; they are going to have to decide what to do with him. Common logic given his performance thus far would be to let him play out his last year and then talk contract, but you risk a Keenan/Cortez/Worilds situation if he splashes some stats his contract year (Cortez was extended prior to playing out his contract year; I mention him because I feel the Lewis departure forced their hand somewhat).

As for the role players, Chickillo is also up in 2017; Moats in '18. They could take the chance with Jarvis and fall back on one of those two if the former gets an inflated offer elsewhere. That's not stellar, but I'm just not sold on Jarvis; he's a very average OLB. However, with the more pressing need being the secondary, and assuming a BPA approach to the draft, I don't see a high likelihood of Jarvis' replacement in 2017 coming from either of the next two draft pools. The problem comes down to whether we will have impact OLB's come 2017 - Dupree looks further along than Jarvis did his rookie season, but still has work to do. And the other side as of now looks to be one of Jarvis/Moats/Chickillo. It would be nice to have closer to a sure thing at one or the other. So having Harrison to help out next year sounds a decent patch job for next year, but at some point they need to know what they have in 2017 and beyond.

On a sidenote, I think this makes a Timmons re-structure this offseason a near certainty. They need to retain his stability, while reducing the $15M cap hit in 2016. His base for next year is $8.75M, so they'll probably look for at least a four-year extension so they can whittle a good $6M of that off. Spence is a FA this offseason, and given Shazier's injuries I think they'll try to retain him (I can't see him getting a bloated offer elsewhere) - otherwise Williams is signed through 2017.

He should come back because even at his age, he still is the best Outside Linebacker we have.
