I posted this in another thread, but thought it deserved a thread of its own. We've debated many times on this board whether or not Ben is elite. I think you could make a case for it, but this is pretty telling. All of the other elite quarterbacks have won multiple post season games the last 5 years. Not Ben. Shucks, there a few far from elite quarterbacks who have won playoff games the last 5 years as well, not Ben.

It's been 6 years if they fail to win one this year. With Ben Roethlisberger as the quarterback!! All of the other top tier quarterbacks have won multiple playoff games since then; Brady, P. Manning, E. Manning, Rodgers, Brees, Wilson.

Other QBs that have won playoff games since Ben include:
    Matt Schaub
    Tim Tebow
    Colin Kaepernick
    Joe Flacco
    Matt Ryan
    Andrew Luck
    Phillip Rivers
    Cam Newton
    Tony Romo

    WOW! This is DEPRESSING!!!

Is it all on Ben? Is it Tomlin? THIS is SAD!

AND THIS YEAR we could add the likes of:
    Brock Osweiller
    AJ McCarron
    Ryan Fitzpatrick
    Teddy Bridgewater
    Alex Smith
    Carson Palmer

No, this isn't sad, this is PATHETIC!!!

its not on ben. having been in the division when he started with a weak Bengals team for so many years it was a shoe in for the division title every year. now that the Bungles have emerged its tough to stay on top. with so many early round picks it was inevitable that it would happen. the ravens, eh they got lucky a few times. to say its ALL on ben, no. shore up the Oline a bit and things will heal themselves up...

Meh. Maybe it's my flu, but this doesn't stir any emotions for me. I don't get depressed easily, though. Interesting list, though, JA.

Sorry, Jack, I don't really get the point.

It's not like the team has been ignoring Ben's talents. And it's not like there aren't many, many reasons why we didn't get to the play offs and other, sometimes weaker teams, did.

It's depressing that we haven't got further in the play offs, but it isn't like I get more depressed knowing non-HOF QBs did.

IF Brock Osweiller wins a playoff game this year, the Broncos will have won a post season game with 3 different quarterbacks since Ben last won one.

I guess my point is that we've wasted the last 6 years of an elite quarterback's career muddling around in mediocrity. Coaching?

Would you say the blame lies more with the support staff around Ben than it does with coaching, strummer? Just trying to generate some conversation around why it is that we've had a once in a generation quarterback who has been in his prime over the last 6 seasons yet we can't seem to win a playoff game with him at the helm.

The biggest problem is fairly simply and one which y'all ignore consistently. We've been rebuilding almost the entire roster. The offense is almost completely rebuilt and the defense is still missing some major pieces. To answer your first question directly, yes the problem is more with the support staff than coaches.

i would like to add something to this. there are 53 players on a nfl roster. I mean Rodgers is considered elite. how many titles has he won? it is a team sport. it takes all 53 and by the end of the year, it takes more than that. it takes coaches, front office, and alittle luck to win a title. sometimes I think people think ben should have 6 or 7 titles but this TEAM isn't good enough for that. no team is. not even the mighty pats

I just think a lot of fans lose alittle perspective sometimes. ben has not been wasted. we held on to a lot of players longer than we should just to try and win. now we are young and we still can get 10 wins. with all this team has been through this year I would say that is pretty darn good. I think if ben played every game this year we would be sitting pretty now but he didn't. we have had 4 kickers, lost a pro bowl center, lost a pro bowl back, have one of the youngest defense with a first year coordinator, and still have a shot. 10-6 and not making playoffs is a failure sure. but so would 12-4 and losing in the super bowl

Thanks for clarifying. Maybe I'm too much of a "simpleton", but I think when you have a quarterback like Ben in his prime you ought to be able to win A playoff game, regardless of where you are in the rebuilding process.

Do you think the other teams with so-called "elite" quarterbacks haven't been in re-building mode at some pint the last few seasons, namely Ne England, Green Bay, Denver, New Orleans? Yet those "elite" quarterbacks have managed to win playoff games. I hear what you're saying about this being a team sport, but if we keep using rebuilding as an excuse I'm afraid we're going to wake up one day and Ben is going to be well past his prime while we're still rebuilding.

Try comparing apples to apples. We were the oldest team in the league by a wide margin. So instead of partial rebuilds it's the entire team. It also doesn't hurt the aforementioned teams have better quarterbacks. Rogers and Brady have thrown 7 interceptions and Ben has thrown 15.

Maybe they are better, but I fear that one of these days after Ben is past his prime we'll all be wondering what the crap happened to all of those years we had one of the best QBs in the league IN HIS PRIME.

I agree that you've got to have a supporting staff, but we'll agree to disagree that the primary issue is with the head coach.
