There have been some painful losses, but being Tebowed stands alone.

Tim Tebow was already on the way out in Denver. John Elway was saying things along the lines of, "He can marry my daughter, but I don't want him QBing my team." A home playoff loss to the Steelers' #1 defense would have provided a nice excuse to get rid of him.

Then, the actual game happened, and we made Tebow look like Elway in his prime. Every time his name is mentioned, and it's mentioned a lot, they show clips of us getting torched in that game.

There have been rumors of him running for office in the near future. I can see him being a congressman, and every time he give a speech on the house floor, I'll have to watch clips of his one great NFL game- for the rest of my life.

The AFC Championship losses hurt, people remember the Super Bowl winners and forget the also-rans each year. Everyone on earth remembers us getting Tebowed.

Sidebar- This game also marked the death of the Lebeau soft zone-blitz defense in the NFL, but we haven't figured that out yet.

It didn't help the Broncos got absolutely annihilated by the Patriots one week later. Funny what a good gameplan and good scouting can do to exploit a team...

Yep, the same Patriots that hung 55 points and 600 yards of offense on our D a couple of years later.

The 2004 afccg really sticks with me because we smashed NE in the regular season and I really thought we had that one. This playing down to inferior teams has become common over the years and I really thought this team was a mirror image of last year minus Bell.

Loss to the Chargers in that 94 championship game. I was 14 at the time and didn't know how to reign in my anger so I went outside at my dad's house and smashed up a bunch of stuff. He had an old washer and dryer set in the garage that didn't make it through the day.

I'll forget about this recent loss to Baltimore by next week.

94, 07, 01,04 AFC championship games come to mind as far worse losses and chokes.
1994 was very bad, Steelers were almost double digit favorites in that game.
But, it was OK to me because 49ers would have killed us in the Super Bowl.

This... by a long shot. I was at the game. It was horrific walking out of 3 Rivers after it was over... you could hear a pin drop. What a nightmare!

And to add insult to injury... the '94 Chargers were probably the worst Super Bowl team ever. And the Steelers pissed the game away, played way too conservative on offense.... and the rest is history.

Too bad the internet was too young back then... If you people think the rhetoric against Tomlin is bad right now on message boards and social media.... imagine how it would have been for Cowher.

The '94 Chargers had one memorable player.... Junior Seau. Think about that for a second. Does anybody remember anyone else from that team? Stan Humphries at QB?!?!?! This loss happened over 20 years ago... and it pisses me off a million times worse than our recent loss to the Ravens. The 94 AFCC game has scarred me for life.

At least the '95 Cowboys and '10 Packers were damn good teams. Those Super Bowl losses... as painful as they were.... were honorable. There is no f**king honor in losing to the '94 Chargers in the AFCC game, when the Steelers had far superior talent.

I honestly believe the Tim Tebow Broncos were the worst playoff team in history. They won so many games during the regular season by complete fluke. They had no business even getting to the playoffs. They had perhaps the worst starting QB in history, yet he lit up our "#1 defence."

Yes... that was awful, but it was Wildcard week game and everybody knew Tebow and the Broncos were gonna get destroyed the next week. The '94 Steelers were stacked on D and had a decent offense worthy of a championship. Losing a championship game is far worse than a divisional round or wildcard game to an inferior team.

We didn't really choke... but the '02/'03 divisional round loss to the Titans was sad. If the Steelers had beaten the Titans that year... who knows what could have happened the next week vs. the Raiders in the championship game? Plus... the Steelers matched up very well against the Bucs that year. Maddox and Steelers kicked the Bucs all over the field in the regular season. That would have been an awesome Super Bowl. Lee Flowers called the Bucs... "Paper Champions" that year after the Steelers whipped them during the regular season.... great times.

The Steelers didn't play SF that season. You might be thinking of 1984...Steelers lost AFCCG to Miami and were only team to beat 15-1 49ers. In the America's Game episode on the 84 49ers, they whine about officiating in that game keeping them from having a perfect seadon.

I have never thought of the 94 AFCCG loss to SD as a choke. The Steelers dominated that game and lost on two fluke plays. It was a fluke game. Just look at that box score...hard to explain how/why the Chargers won that game.

Thanks, i've been reading the riot act to whining Chargers fans for years for beating us in the afccg and laying an egg in the sb against a team we could have beat. Haha Chargers fans are clueless, i think I'll keep my version going here in so cal, maybe it will get some traction and they will start apologizing for beating us.

You are correct! Charger fans are completely clueless. Why else would they root for them? That one game, (AFCCgame) is the omly thing they have going for them. They have collective amnesia when it comes to the SB against the 9ers.

The 2004 champ game loss to the Pats wasn't a choke, not with a rookie QB, but it is the one that made me the angriest...and one in retrospect most looks as though the Pats had video help. I remember Brady sitting in a nice, comfy pocket all game, no matter what exotic blitzes the Steelers dialed up. I think Troy later said he couldn't believe how the Pats picked up the blitzes as though they knew they were coming.

It is also the only time I wanted to hit someone over a football game. I was at a bar that was about 50/50 Steelers and Pats fans. The Pats fans were intolerable. They kept saying something about Steelers fans making hotel reservations in Jacksonville and that it disrespected the Pats. On my way out, after the game, one of them threw a french fry at me and said "Congrats on winning the Halloween Bowl" (a reference to the Steeler win earlier in the season).
