Tackling… Lets talk about it… I am tired of watching our defense and their lack of ability. They look like they are blocking instead of tackling. They all lay their shoulder down instead of wrapping up. This is not bumper cars… Pathetic! It does not take much talent to tackle! Wrap up!

I blame Sportcenter. Everyone wants to be in the highlight reel for a big hit instead of just getting the guy on the ground.

As good as Troy was, he used to hit instead of tackle too!

Once the season starts they never practice it anymore. I think because of union rules. Not too long with Cowher or Noll when the team started to have bad tackling games, they would say lets get back to basics on practicing and have live tackling and tackling drills during practice.

I think it has to do with 2 things...

#1 Rule changes. These players are being told to play as fast as they can and make tackles but you can't touch their head and can't lead with your head. This means you need to either grab or dive at their legs. to avoid the chance of penalty.

#2 practicing no longer involves live hitting and tackling ...and even pre season they have little full contact practice compared to the past.

Tackling has been a joke for way too many years now. It used to be about the fundamentals of playing the game and now it seems to be about who has the best dance moves when a player makes a big play.

#2 is for sure a factor. Ugh, it pisses me off. Our society is so screwed!

Defensive players I'm hoping will not be back next year: Will Allen, Mike Mitchell, Jarvis Jones, Antwon Blake, & Cam Thomas. Brandon Boykin needs to be a starter next year..

I think tackling must be taught and practiced. It should have been
taught in Pee Wee's. As for practicing the CBA has just about put the
brakes on hitting in practice. From my own perspective, you have to want to tackle .

After watching the PIT-BAL game, I righted my emotional ship by watching the NE-NYJ game (condensed on GamePass). Saw enough good tackling in that second game to make it noticeable.

I'd have to lay some blame with the current no-live-tackling system; marginal focus on fundamentals in college coaching; and the need for defensive college players to "get noticed" (ESPN contributes here, too).

It really is a lack of basic tackling form ,hit and wrap ..My boy plays and i am constantly showing him examples on Sundays of how not to do it !
That just doesn't sound right does it...SMH,,not to mention idiots leading with their heads !That irks me even more ..

Yup. Tackling is a mentality, just like special teams. Wouldn't be surprised if our best tackler just happened to be our injured fullback, Roosevelt Nix.

With the limitations on practice, we have to draft players that have proven a willingness to tackle.
