This guy has done nothing since the beginning of the season, he has hit the rookie wall. They made him a starter and it hasn't helped his production at all.

One thing we have to remember is this defense has never been kind to rookies.

At least those not named Kendrell Bell. But I'll happily exchange a less stellar rookie campaign for a longer career of production.

I believe, I am not certain, that there hasn't been
a QB sack by ab OLB in 3 games?

Very true, especially for overall play. What is disappointing to me is that he seems to treat every pass rush situation as a 10-yard dash, running himself out of the play more times than not. He needs to develop some moves because you can't get by on athletic ability alone in this league. Everything can come together for the dude; I hope it does because we desperately need him.

Dude I have said that a million times! He's always in the backfield but like 10 yards deeper than he ought to be. When he learns how to take better angles he could become a sack machine.

I think he has more upside than Jarvis. Batman needs Robin.
    Greg Lloyd needed Kevin Greene
    Jason Gildon needed Clark Haggans.
    James Harrison needed Lamar Woodley.

Jarvis and Bud just don't get it done together. Dupree seems better when a 37 year old Harrison is on the opposite side.

I noticed that in the Denver game and this game. I kept saying to myself. Where the hell is he going? He runs so far past the QB so often it's almost laughable.

Didn't he admit a couple weeks ago he has started to hit that rookie wall? Seems to me his head is spinning with the mental aspect of the game right now and the physical part is not helping. If he is constantly thinking about his assignments pre-snap then it would be very difficult to "plan your attack" against the off. lineman. He may be boggled down with his responsibilities and not thinking, "oh I should rip this guy right now, etc". I'm sure it happens to many rookies and first time starters.

I didn't see much from him on film at Kentucky and questioned the pick some, but he definitely has the physical tools and way more upside than JJ. I think he will be 10x better next year. I know its cliché, but when the game slows down for him some, it will be a different player. As for his pass rush moves, he needs to watch film of Derrick Thomas and see how turning that corner can be devastating to qbs.

I actually thought he was having a decent season. He did nothing yesterday ...but neither did anyone else.

I think this is well said, especially the first paragraph about what Dupree's is likely dealing with right now. I remember watching Polamalu out there as a rookie and he had the same look his first year. Hopefully Dupree will absorb a lot from the increased PT and a full offseason and will start to turn a corner next year. As you said, he has the tools.

Exactly. I'd be wary of singling out any one performance as a sign of overall issues from yesterday. The fact is, everybody played like ****.

EDIT: Except for Deangelo. And I'd probably give Boykin a pass as well.

I understand that he is a rookie and there's a lot to digest but what bothers me is how slow he is getting off the ball. That was supposed to be one of his strengths but watch him and you will see a slow jump. I was really focusing in on him yesterday trying to get some logical explanation to our pathetic pass rush and what I noticed was a delay off the line. Idk.....

That will happen when you're constantly staring at the numbers on the opponents backs as you're running around all day.

LOL! So I overshot it a little in keeping with Bud's theme. I mean I figure if he went from PA home to KY for the holidays that he probably went there via California. Ok. That's just mean. LOL!

If Dupree gets a sack vs. the Browns then he has a chance to tie Jones' sack total over 3 seasons. Hell he has a chance to surpass it.

I'm not worried about Dupree as much as certain other players.

Dupree has a very quick get off... I saw it in the preseason, but not lately. I think the mental aspect is getting to him right now.

I am concerned though... him and Jarvis don't really look like naturals out there, and the sacks Dupree has gotten were coverage sacks for the most part. I haven't seen him put a move on a guy yet.

Seems like we are drafting athletes and not football players. I know that is a confusing statement, but some guys just knew how to hunt the QB ...like Lloyd and Porter. I'd argue Woodley was a better football player than an athlete, he had great instincts.

It looks like none of the outside linebackers including Harrison have many different moves. You never see them use a quick spin move or anything different when rushing the passer. Harrison gets by on his strengh.
