I think the D was a problem, especially considering that they helped make Mallett look as good as he did today. But I have to agree, Ben was just not getting it together today. His throws were off, and he just didn't seem to have the awareness he needed to play at the level what was called for today.

Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that Gay was targeted alot today. This may be the reason Tomlin didn't play Boykin alot this season. Putting Boykin on the slot receiver and Gay on the outside today didn't work well. Am I interpreting this wrong?

Ben first but Im not giving the defense a pass. 20 points isn't alot but against a depleted Ravens team with Ryan Mallett? Really? And all those 3rd downs? To Ryan MAllett? Really? Who was't even on the team until 12 days ago???? Wow.

But, I expect that out of this defense, what I didn't expect was for the offense to lay an egg. That hurts more.

When Vick struggled the Pittsburgh media went on and on about him only being here seven weeks and that's not enough time to learn the playbook. Mallett is a stud in 12 days?

Im going to throw out another group... The offensive line, particulary the interior offensive line was bad today. Ben's pocket was getting collapsed quick.

That is what got me about run heavy in the 1st half. We were playing to the Ravens strength. After all the guys they lost, the ravens still have their all world interior dlinemen.

We should have passed to get up on hem early.

I agree... Vick is horrible. Why he's on our roster makes me wonder who's calling the personnel shots, and who ever is should maybe be looking for a new job in 2 weeks.

And why didn't we pick up Mallet as a back up when he was released a couple of weeks ago and get rid of Vick. Mallet could of been our second QB as he is better then Jones. A lot of bad personnel decisions lately. Is it Tomlin or Corbett.?

I think it was pretty clear that Tomlin wanted Vick and asked the FO to get him. I'm sure the FO gets the Ok from Tomlin on all personnel decisions. If not then we have another issue to complain about.

I would say Ben is the main reason they lost today, 17 points is what they scored against a undermanned Ravens defense after scoring 34 against the best defense vs Denver last week. The defense is the other reason they let Mallet throw for a career high in yards, no pass rush and didn't cover the Ravens no name WRs.

Mallet is a headcase, check his time in Houston. Who is Corbett? Colbert is the Steelers GM.

Well, couple things. 1st is, even Mallett is much better than Vick and 2nd thing is, our secondary has a way of making QB's look good

Totally inexcusable, should have been able shut him down.

Tomlin is a moron. He continually shows how he has zero control of this team. The Steelers will continue to waste Ben's talent (admitted, he played terrible today) until he is gone. Then we will see gow effing terrible mikey standard is. So bad

Lack of coaching is the reason. Why?? Because if you purposely allow all QBs to complete over 90% of their attempts, your not putting out effort. Our DBs are atleast 10 yards away from the line of scrimmage & they still let guys run right by them. So why not compete at the line of scrimmage to the very least throw off some timing?? All of our guys are worthless tacklers...

It was a total team effort from top to bottom. Or lack thereof. Poor coaching decisions. Poor decisions in where Ben threw it. Poor tackling. Poor pressure on the qb. Poor coverage. Charlie Batch even called the coaching "arrogant" today. What REALLY ticks me off though is that a few weeks ago Tomlin was quoted as saying that he "doesn't really care about turnovers" from a defensive perspective but then today he said we lost because we lost the turnover battle. Apparently he had said that he only cares about turnovers when they come at certain points or something ridiculous.

The one thing I will say that has me worried about Tomlin and Colbert's qb evaluation is that IF they took Landry to maybe be Ben's future replacement then I seriously dread the moment we will actually have to try and find Ben's replacement.

I sorta do consider the "identity" of a Tomlin team to be a team that doesn't seem to win the games they "should". For whatever reason, the record is the record when it comes to losing teams. I also don't consider our recent teams to have a high "football iq". We consistently have poor clock and game mgmt and I believe we continue to field sub par players because of "loyalty". To stay relevant in today's NFL sentiment has to go out the window and you have to be willing to cut your own mother if she so much as loses a step. I fully believe this is what has kept the Pats on top for as long as they have been. If Colbert and Tomlin were running the Pats they'd probably still have Brushi and Willie McGinest out there on defense.

I'd say the defense, and we knew since the Pat's game that it would come back to bite us by the end of the year. I said we'd be 9-7 and miss the playoffs and it would be our defense that would be the reason. You can't expect the offense to score almost 40 points every game and Ben throw 350+ yards a game for the whole season. You had to know that someone was going to stop us or that Ben was going to have a bad game sooner or later. But the defense has been bad since day 1. I would have to say it has not improved at all since the New England game. In fact the beginning of this game I said to my son's "This is a game the Steelers could easily lose and their D is going to make Ryan Mallet look like Joe Montana" Not quite but almost! I watched this game and at one point said to myself...look at all the #1 picks out there on Defense and they don't do anything. I mean no pressure at all on the QB...reminded me of the New England game where they had THREE rookie lineman and we couldn't even get near Brady. It's looking more and more like our defense is becoming a bust...I don't even know what the answer is but it is so frustrating to have such a bad defense with such a great offense.

Oh, and let's not forget our "fearless" leader taking another 3 pts off the board on a HUGELY STUPID decision early in the 1st quarter. Hey... what did we lose by anyway? Oh yeah... 3 pts.

(Not that I'm excusing Ben for that rotten egg he laid out there today)

    Hairball outcoached Coach Cliche.
    Their defense outplayed our defense.
Ryan Mallet outplayed Big Ben Roethlisberger.

Read that last one again and let it sink in.

Silly me, I thought the Ravens had made a pre-game pickup of Tom Brady by the way he was playing.

Don't kid yourself - Mallet looked good because he played our defense. His stats were less than impressive coming into today's game.

on third downs just get the first down....no need to go for the home run ball as often as we do...get the first down and keep the drive alive.

today the ravens needed 2 on third and got 3, they needed 6 and got 8. we need 5 on third and go for 50.

even when the deep ball is not there - 2 or 3 guys on brown or bryant Ben is going to put the ball there no matter what. often 2 or 3 guys wide open and we go deep for an INT or missed pass. (this has been going on since the Packers Super Bowl....remember the pick 6 Ben threw into tight coverage....should have never thrown that ball either)

the offense is better when Miller is involved. he should have 5-8 catches a game.

Mallet - isn't he the guy who over slept and missed the Texan's game and then was cut?

next week - Manzel...after his last outing against us he was awarded the starting job in Cleveland the rest of the year. Now that Johnny has seen our defense once next week's he's going for 400 plus yards.

harbaugh is without question a better coach than tomlin. tomlin's catchy phrases are very tiresome.
