When you get swept by a 5 win Ravens team, and your franchise QB Ben gets outplayed by Ryan freaking Mallett . Ben on the road this season 2 TDs and 7 ints, so if they made the playoffs they would be on the road and Ben will play like garbage again. The defense really struggles when they don't get turnovers, they seem to make every backup QB they face look like Joe Montana. Maybe if they miss the playoffs they will finally fix this garbage secondary, go out and get some real talent.

I asked jack this in another thread. What is it some of you mean when you say we don't deserve to go to the playoffs? If they qualify for one of the six playoff spots don't you deserve to be in the playoffs?

So you're saying if we win next week and the Jets lose. we still shouldn't be in the playoffs?

If at the end of next week, the Piitsburgh Steelers finish in a position to get the the #6 playoff spot in the AFC, then they deserve to be in the playoffs. If not, they can book their tee times.

On today's play, I wouldn't say we looked like a play off team.

Across the whole season, I think we do.

Whether we deserve to is based on record alone.

This is frustrating to take today indeed but the bottom line is its over and done with now and all that the Steelers and us as fans can do is forget about this game and look forward to the opportunity to hopefully still get in the playoffs next week with a win and a Bills win over the Jets. The last few times in 2009 and in 2013 when we needed to win the last week we did but didn't get the help. Hopefully next week the tables finally turn and we get the help we need and take care of our own business.

without alittle bit of whew we backedintothe playoffs

    I'd rather be #1 seed
nobody is actually saying give it to the 7th seed team if we are 6 seed

I just totally disagree with that way of thinking. I'll never feel bad about being in the playoffs no matter how we achieved it. JMO

I remember the Denver Tebow loss. I would have rather not made the playoffs that season.

We had a bad game at the worst time against the worst opponent.
Ben & Heath deserve another Super Bowl ring. Cam, DeAngelo, & Antonio deserves their first ring.
If anyone doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs, it's the Redskins & the Texans. They only got in because all the other teams in their division suck.

When it mattered, Redskins had to beat the Eagle and they did. They won that "Playoff" game.
Steelers didn't win when it was a "must"

I don't know - it sure would be awful being a Bills or Vikings fan relative to SB's and saying well at least we got there! (all of this is much easier to say of course being a Steeler fan and sporting a six pack of rings). I'm afraid that Stairway to 7 though is meandering through some very dark territory.

Secondary is garbage and it is time to get some real talent back there. Secondary had nothing to do with the loss though. We gave up 20 Points just 2.7 points more than league best of 17.3. Ballpark but pretty damn close. It was up to our offense, they are suppose to be our wild card to get us to the finish line victorious. They failed. Tomlin failed. Completely out coached.

Cowher lost at least 4 AFC championship games at home. Before he got it right. Progression is how it's done in the nfl most of the time. You have to lose a lot to win a few. But 2009 2013 and now 2015 we need help. If it was up to Rex he would give his life to knock jets out of playoffs. But I don't think his team will care as much as him so we probally are not going to get the help we need. The fact that we are always needing freaking help because Tomlin teams choke over and over again against a team we should beat is troubling. That is regression. I knew the very first drive it was not going to be a good day. My exact words after the first drive "thank god I'll be at work when this **** ends". That's coaching. I've been all over the Nfl for 40 years. I haven't missed much. And there was no doubt we were going down. It was written all over their faces. That run over the right side on 4th was so freaking predictable. Tomlin I think feels that if you have better players that means a win. He never has impressed me at all with gameplan, scheme, adaptability on the go,nothing. Good talker but that's it. Like everything in life, you have to have a plan. And when that plan gets screwed up because plans do, then what. How do you react when the plan fails. That's what distinguishes a great coach that's going to build something special to a coach that is going to be the next Marvin Lewis. Tomlin was no doubt Harbaughs lunch after the opening drive. I'm not saying Harbaugh is a great coach. But I knew he was good enough to out coach Tomlin. I see Tomlin I see Lewis. His teams play a day late and a dollar short comsistently.
We have no choice to ride it out with him until Ben retires. Too late for the steelers to go a different direction now. Bens no spring chicken. So in my opinion ride out till
Ben retires. No Super Bowls by then, no job. I'm giving the dude a chance but I'm doubtful.

Cowher lost 4 out of 5 AFC championship games and a Super Bowl then he won one the big one. What do we do with Tomlin?? Let him ride it out with Ben I guess??

Bob Labriola had a good take on this season's team:

Over the first 15 weeks of this regular season, we had seen the Steelers overcome their share of adversity and grow into the kind of team that can beat anybody on any given day. That’s what makes them the kind of team nobody would want to face in the playoffs.

But this also is not a team without flaws, it’s not a team that has completed the maturation process as it transitions to a different generation of players. Because of that, these Steelers also are a team that can lose to anybody on any given day, especially when that day carries with it a minus-2 in turnover ratio.

And that’s what makes the Steelers a team now needing help even to get into the playoffs.
