Is there anything coaches can do to prevent this?

If there was, these coaches aren't doing it! This has unfortunately been Tomlin's teams Modus operandi.

It is a mental thing. It hasn't mattered who the coordinatots are...so this is a Tomlin thing.

We beat the Rams, Chargers,Browns, 49ers Raiders and Indianapolis. All lesser teams. We lose to a heated division rival in the Ravens and Tomlin can't win against lesser teams?
    Newsflash. All teams have upsets.

You know what we're talking about. The national media even had the stats up on screen during a game last year about Tomlin's record against sub .500 teams.

This isn't just about this game..

I know it's not just about one game. That's why I brought up the other games against lesser opponents this season.
New England has a couple losses against lesser teams this year too. Fire Belicheck!

You know I'm not saying fire Tomlin. I'm just so sick of this type of game biting them in the butt!

Me too, but there's this misconception out there that we always play down to lesser competition and we're the only team that has upsets and that's just not true.

True, this is the NFL, and upsets happen. But under Tomlin, the Steelers not only tend to lose to bottom feeders, their wins are nsil-biters, too. Remember a near loss to KC snd Tyler Palko and the Chiefs?

Steelers have lost 7 of last 11 games against sub-.500 teams

Take that to 50% and this team is in the playoffs right now...

Are we only talking about sub .500 teams? I was under the impression that the thread was about playing down to the competition?

I don't know, but that was a sub .500 team they lost to today!:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

I think playing down to the competition is kind of subjective, don't you?

Not really, all I'm saying is that we have beaten plenty of lesser teams this season.
The record against sub .500 teams is alarming though.

    k

The thing is that you are suppose to beat lesser teams by more times than we do. We have too many times looked like today against lesser teams. Tomlin, Haley, Ben and the whole defense including the defensive coaches all looked lost, with no passion and no fire in them. Tomlin looked like he was lost the most and he set the tone for the entire team.

This is no surprise, it happens about every year. We were favored to win by 10, what a joke that was. Been following the Steelers for 57 years so I'm numb and nothing hurts anymore.

I disagree with you! There is something about Tomlin. The team consistently under-performs. That is leadership.

Oh come on, man. 4-7 vs their last 11 sub-.500 teams? I am still slightly pro-Tomlin, but we can't accept this stuff

Down to competition can sometimes be overstated. That 3 game run that had the press praising the Steelers (and me too) was against rookie A.J. McCarron, 40 year old Matt Hasselback and rookie Brock Osweiler. Three opponents in a row missing their starting QB. The Steelers defense doesn't play down to anyone. It's as bad as any in the league.
