In case you forgot we were down by a couple scores and averaging 1.9 yards per carry. They also were missing their two starting safeties. The passing game was the way to go. I don't know why it's so hard for you people to grasp the simple fact that we are a passing team first and foremost. That is the strength of this team.

Regarding your comment about Tomlin and not having the defense up to its glory days. Yet once again, we've rebuilt almost the entire offense and in the process of rebuilding the entire defense. These things take time. It doesn't happen overnight.

I think MT is in 7 million range. See Steel Elvis comment about sums it up for me. He has been doing
this with a franchise QB for 9 years.

I'm not dragging Cower through the mud by any means ,,but when your in that moment in time and you watch your team lose another home AFC championship game its heartbreaking, and the questions come up,,can this guy win the big one!
To say you would rather have us go to the AFCC game and lose 4x over just getting to the WC round is BS IMO ..
Eagles ,,4 in a row at the NFCC ,all losses, the bills ,enough said!
Again i love Cowher ,but Tomlin has already matched Cowher in the big game ,been there twice and won it once ..

But it's far more fun and strategically significant to continue to run the ball when it's not working . damn lol

I would rather fire coaches that are not performing to the Steeler way and continually rehire and start anew. Kind of like how the Browns do it. This way you end up with a winning cohesive organization

OK so the team strength is passing but Ben is responsible for all team losses. Got it.

Steelers are leading the NFL in YPC but rushing is not a strength. Got it.

Team is rebuilding with a HOF QB in place. Got it.

Team is not in "win now mode" while getting rid of draft picks for kickers and corners who sit on the bench. Got it.

It's a weird way to go about rebuilding but I think I get your point of view.

Yeah OK the Browns are the only team that has ever changed coaches.

San Fran parted with Bill Walsh and still won another Super bowl. The same goes for Dallas with Jimmy Johnson. Green Bay with Holmgren etc.

Teams have moved on from better coaches often and still had success.

So if the Rooneys were looking for a new head coach they would lose their minds and hire a bad coach?

The last 3 head coaches the Rooneys hired won a Super bowl.

No one is better qualified to find a new head coach than the Rooneys.

None of that matters because Tomlin isn't going anywhere until after Ben retires so you can relax. But don't try to compare the Rooneys to Browns ownership because that is just dumb.

No further comment on Tomlin, but I'll just point out that a little over a decade ago Tampa got tired of being on the cusp of a title. They replaced Tony Dungy with John Gruden and won the SB in Gruden's first season.

My point was tongue in cheek.. Browns organization is one example of coaching changes far too often not proving anything and certainly not building a quality organization such as the Steelers. If you do not think there is a relationship between consistent and constant changes your not thinking straight.

This organization has repeatedly been very competitive and consistent with fewer coaching changes. I just think sometimes we as fans are a tad spoiled and fickle.

Tomlin is a good to great coach. I stand by that statement and if you don't agree then its time for us to agree to disagree.

I went point for point off your statement. Not sure how it's a strawman. To summarize your points you think Ben is responsible for all losses and the team is rebuilding.

I sort of agree with you. That title for TB was a little tainted, Gruden being the former coach of the team they beat in the SB (and it was confirmed by Derrick Brooks and John Lynch that they knew what Gannon was calling as he called it based on what Gruden had taught them - shame on the Raiders for not changing their system, but still cheapens it a bit IMO) - I don't think anyone (without serious B&G goggles on) would look at our performance/record over the past 5 years and say we're "on the cusp of a title". If we were, I'd be less critical. And that's a shame considering the talent level we have had on this team during that period.

Why is it a strawman argument? Did I say anything about Ben being responsible for all losses? No, not even close. If you can't diffentiate between what said and your conclusion you're either a dumb ass or disingenuous. No we don't lead the league in ypc and yes the strength of this team is Ben, brown, Wheaton, and Bryant. Are you really too stupid to see that? Are you really implying that a team with a franchise qb can't rebuild? You addressed my post point by point yet pulled "win now mode" from God knows where.

I think we are absolutely on the cusp if we play and coach smart. Personnel-wise I see us as similar (at a high level) to the 2009 Saints. That team had a phenomenal offense and a defense that gave up yards and points in buckets, but was opportunistic and caused turnovers that gave their great offense extra possessions. Let's not forget that the 2009 Saints gave up 20 or more points 13 times, and 27 or more points 6 times. Yet, despite giving up those points, they were highly effective because of turnovers. When our defense plays aggressively and focused, it shows the capability to get the same type of results, and when our offense is clicking it's pretty much unstoppable.

Add to the above the fact that the Pats are about as injury-depleted as we are, and Manning isn't the same guy anymore, and suddenly the window of opportunity in the AFC is wide open. Simply put, the only team in the AFC that I think can beat us IS us. And that's what worries me.

Chuck Noll was a lot better of a coach with Terry Bradshaw as QB than without.
    Bill was had Joe Montanna.
Tom Landry was better with Craig Morton and Roger Staubach than without.
Tony Dungy was better with Peyton Manning than without.
    Belicheat has Tom Brady.
Just wait to see what Sean Peyton does without Drew Brees.
Bill Cowher was better with Ben.

Yet there are also a lot of great QB's who don't win. It is definitely part coach and part players. Yes Tomlin has had Ben, the point is they've won together. I'm not ready to find out if Tomlin can win without Ben or if Ben can win without Tomlin. Right now, I think this team is on the verge of being able to make multiple superbowl runs. Fix the secondary and our D is young and fast. As long as we have Ben and Heath, the rest of the offense is young. So if Tomlin can make the right calls and the players can execute them, I believe Tomlin and Ben are both capable of winning it all more than once over these next several seasons.

I give Joe Gibbs credit, winning with multiple QB's. I understand why Theisman was done. But maybe Gibbs could have worked a bit trying to replace Theisman with a guy worth keeping and then he would have won more. Some teams win in spite of their QB. Think the 90' Giants, 2000 Ravens, 2012 Ravens etc. Teams like the 09 Colts, 10 Steelers, and 13 Patriots didn't lose because of their QB's, but were carried to the superbowls by them. The talent on D and supporting O cast wasn't there. A good coach has to have the whole team. While Tomlin seems to lose games he should win, he also wins games that perhaps he should lose. At the end of the day, he wins more than he loses and so is building a record not to shabby compared to other great coaches. And that's the point, Tomlin, along with Cowher belong in conversations with other great coaches.

During those Cowher led years, my nephew's half brother told me he'd rather root for a team that doesn't make the playoffs than a team that loses 4 AFCC games.
I told him he's a good Charger fan!

That was my point - this coaching staff hasn't shown the capacity to be smart about use of the talent available to them. It's not just this year that we've had the talent necessary to *at the very minimum* make it deep into the playoffs. Yet, it hasn't happened. And a large portion of that can be attributed to stupid, sloppy, undisciplined play - and that's a reflection of the head coach.

Talent-wise, are we on the cusp? Sure, we have been for several years. Have we gotten past our "issues"? We'll see in the next few weeks...

Lame ass argument, since you clueless fans want to give Cowher so much credit for his players he should've gotten a decent QB. Another point to show your argument is weak Tampa Bay won a Super Bowl with Brad Johnson, Baltimore won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Bottomline Cowher underachieved 1 Super Bowl win in 15 years
