Welcome aboard, Steeler Nation welcomes you but I would caution you don't completely give up the love for the Bills, they have a proud history and you have to be impressed with the consistency they have put up. I don't think any team will ever win four AFC Championships in a row let alone go to four SB's and lose but to go four years in a row is an impressive feat that I don't think will ever be matched. So some quick business items.

    1. Sign them immediately and Fire them Immediately are board rallying cries, they are easily interchangeable at any given moment.
    2. Dar- you've met and if you don't understand her no worries, she speaks in song titles and lyrics so most of us barely understand her except BFT who holds the lone babble fish on the board.
    3. Green Font= sarcasm, yes we need to have its own font because our sarcasm detection units are broken.
    4. PWP has a huge man crush on DHB this means that you will see plenty of fluff pieces extolling his virtues, Issac Redman was his previous crush.
    5. IF you throw down the gauntlet with HugeSnack bring your reading glasses and some ointment the smack down hurts.
    6. Speaking of BFT yes he is a preacher, yes he is a comic book nerd(aren't we all here?), yes he is short, and yes he has the same fetish as a certain current Bills coach you may know.
    7. The only rule is there are no rules and everybody fights, no wait those are my fight club rules, forget I said anything. You will pick up the rest.

Wave the towel, crank Renegade, and unleash Hell in December.

P.S. BigBenHotness is not in fact a woman but a guy lol, also Landry Jones is not as bad as they say.

Welcome to Steeler Country and Steeler Nation!

Steelers Nation is the unofficial name of the fan base of the Steelers, coined by NFL films narrator John Facenda in "Blueprint for Victory," (a mandatory film in gym class growing up in the Steel City) the team's 1975 highlights film. Steelers Country is often used for the Pittsburgh area where the fan base originates.

Traditionally the teams we love to hate over the years have been mainly: the Raiders, Browns, Cowboys, Ravens and Patriots. That is because all of these have had at some time an era of winning and therefore the primary competition to our proud Steeler teams over the years. Back before most of us were born we had a great rivalry with the Browns. In the 70s it was with the Raiders and Cowboys. Again in the 90s when the Steelers were able to field a strong team again after some miserable years in the 1980s, it was the Cowboys again and in the 2000s, 2010s it was with the Patriots and Ravens of course.

The magic all began after 40 years of loosing on the gridiron (in fact 25 years without seeing the playoffs from 1947-1972 has the Bills beat) that was with the Immaculate Reception in 1972 against the Oakland Raiders when Franco Harris caught a ricocheted ball and with no time left on the clock, shaved along the left out of bounds line to lift the Steelers from being down 6 to 7 to their first victory ever in the post season. The Steelers (now the oldest franchise in the AFC) had not won a playoff since their foundation. Founded by Irish immigrant Art Rooney Sr. (the Chief) in 1933 (at that time named the Pittsburgh Pirates). Numerous bad choices, bad coaching and drafting kept the team in the basement. Trading away a promising new kid named Johnny Unitas in 1955 and in the draft of 1957, passing on a running back by the name of Jim Brown. The old refrain back in those days, before Chuck Noll the genius of pugilism came to our rescue, was SOS- Same Old Steelers. In those days they started every game back in the loosing 50s with Fran Rogel running the ball on the first play of every game and the crowd cheering "Hey Diddle Diddle, Rogel up the middle".

So much for you to discover about your new team and its rich history along with the city of Pittsburgh. The Steel Curtain era, the glory years, dawned upon the city of Pittsburgh during a time when the city was going through hard times. The mills which were the lifeblood of the city of three rivers, were closing, , the gas crunch hit, unemployment was being felt within a smoggy, tired city. For many children young and old there rose some new heroes and a new moniker: The City of Champions. Well, that's some of how I remember it all growing up. Read up and bask in the history young Steeler fan, you will soon learn about the victories and heartbreaks, the birth of the terrible towel and the voice and wisdoms of Myron Cope, Gerelas Guerrillas, Franco's Army, the team logo and on and on... onto a record 15 AFC Championships winning 8 and a record 8 Superbowls winning 6 Lombardies.

Until recently only one jersey had been retired over 80 years of smash-mouth football, number 70, Ernie Stautner's. A German born, hard nose, old school, lunch-pail defensive tackle. They finally honored Mean Joe Greene last year by retiring his number 75 and recognizing that the Dynasty all began on his shoulders when he was drafted in 1969, followed by Bradshaw and Blount in 1970, Jack Ham in 1971, Franco in 1972 and the greatest single draft of all time in 1974 adding Swann, Stallworth, Webster and Lambert (Dracula in cleats). Of course there is the Cowher and Tomlin years (only three coaches through 46 years) and more great drafts that built a new dynasty and 3 more superbowl appearances and two more championships. Even the best years of your former Bills are partly due to one of Pittsburgh's own sons, Jim Kelly, who played in Buffalo as you well know. He has joked about why so many legendary QBs have come out of the Steel valley: “it’s the water... our strong right arms came as a result of drinking so many Iron City beers." Beside him Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Joe Nameth, Johnny Unitas and George Blanda. Together, six Hall of Fame quarterbacks, hail from the Pittsburgh area, playing in 13 Super Bowls and winning six of them. Time fails me young Steeler fan, to tell of all the glories... enjoy it and welcome aboard.

In closing we toss to you a terrible towel and in the famous words of the perhaps the greatest to ever play the game, I quote, Mean Joe himself: "Hey kid... catch!"

Honestly the Bills were an AFC team I always had a soft spot for because they were so good when I was a kid and I always loved Andre Reed and Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas. Now I can't root for them though because I can't stand Rex Ryan and his big fat mouth.

It's not unusual for someone who has moved to a new city to become a new fan of the local teams.

i will admit, i will have them as a number 2 team as i dont think i can remove them from my hearts totally, but there just comes a point, man, where u cant take it anymore! honestly, i have been a season ticket holder since 06, but obviously getting rid of them. ill always love the memories of the history they have had, but i still dont see the team having any good seasons for the foreseeable future, salary cap it shot, good players will be leaving and the coaching is just awful. ive been a closet steelers fan for a while but couldnt "out" myself to my loyal friends, but i will once the timing is right. but like steelhaven said, being in steelers country has just rubbed off even more on me. merry christmas everyone see u all sunday!

I once had a boss and co-worker who were Bills fans. The boss was from Buffalo, which was perfectly understandable, and the co-worker was from here in western Pennsylvania, so I don't know what was up his ass. :lolol:

Also not unusual for a person to remain loyal to their former team despite moving to another city. Been in Tampa for 27 years, but will never root for another team other than the Steelers.

I would say that staying loyal to your team despite moving IS more normal and usual. But the former is not a foreign concept

this was a great read i must say! the things that drew me over were

    1. location. working with, and living in steeler country has started to rub off on me. im not going to lie, the bills will somehow be a second team to me, but it is really hard to root for a disaster every single year. there is always promise of change but it never happens. the players show absolutely no pride in wanting to play, and generally leave and do well with other teams. i see arthur moats is doing kinda well here, but hes not exactly a superstar.

    2. Coaching and management. This seems to be one of the best in the NFL. I must admit that i didnt think Tomlin would turn out the way he did those few years back when he took over for Bill, but he has done quite well.

    3. no worries bout the pats, i absolutely hate that team, and of course it has to do with their 23-3 13 year history against buffalo, but i cant stand their getting away with crap, it gets old
