Hi all! I'm a displaced Pittsburgh homer, coming back to town to visit my folks. And ... I scored tickets to the Broncos-Steelers game!!! I'll be bringing my 11-year-old son -- it'll be his first ever football game, and my first home game since I was 7 (RIP Three Rivers Stadium).

We're staying downtown and will probably just walk over and back. I'm hoping to get advice about game-day stuff: anything in particular we should bring or not bring, how to keep warm, stuff to see/do pre-game, tips, insider secrets ;), ...

[I searched but didn't find any threads on-topic, other than Natalie's. Apologies if I missed 'em.]

Welcome to the board Clive, someone will be with you soon to help. I haven't been there in 10years but the Burgh original Permanti Bros never dissapoints.

Where are your seats located, I can tell you a little more, about how to dress etc.

Be prepared to have fun!!! It should be rocking.

No clue why your picture is there, but leave it there. Much better than what the rest of us put up there.

Get to the Stadium early check out the Great Hall. Let your son experience
the players warming up, see the size and ability of these men. I have gone to many home
and away games and I still get to the stadiums early to see guys warming up. I guess
its the old football player in me wishing I was out there.

These threads come up often enough that we should have a Sticky on this subject that we can add to.

I love hearing the different ideas that people have on places to see, things to do, places to eat, ect.

There was a thread a couple months ago that had a bunch of great info. I tried searching, but didn't find it.

I've thought about it of course, but honestly it only comes up a handful of times per season. While a good resource, I expect a sticky would just discourage discussion. It's not that hard to post a couple sentences for a new member. :)

Don't take anything in a bag. They wont let you in with it (unless it's clear?). Don't forget your Terrible Towel for when they play Renegade! Like others said, get there early to check out all of the stuff inside Heinz Field. Its really cool! Have fun! Go Steelers!! :yeehaw:

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

We're in the 500's, just off the 50 on the Home side, and close enough to the front to probably NOT be under the overhang. We'll both be in Steelers jerseys and waving Terrible Towels ... just like when watching on TV here at home.

I like the idea of getting in early to see warm-ups. Is there some secret way to get on-field for them? Steelers Nation Unite talks it up, but they seem quiet on how to actually be down there.

I had on field access for the 49er game this year from SNU. Do the SNU thing and you may be lucky enough to be picked.
Once in a while you can buy field passes to games on EBay.

Definitely check with steelers nation unite. They have a ton of things they do for fans, but you probably have to get in touch with them pretty quick. Probably lots of things to see and do around the stadium before the gates open, just depends on the weather. If the weather is nice, it should be a busy scene. Probably even if it is a little cold, too.

For SNU have everybody with a phone that's going sign up. If somebody is just signing up now have them make their b-day the day of the game and in the comments explain you are traveling up for the game and field passes would make your trip. You have to RSVP on the app and I would do it either today or Thursday no later. Not sure if you will win field passes since your tickets are so far up and you would miss a good portion of the 1st. But there's some tips. I've got field passes 3 times.

That's not going to work. You have to show your Drivers license and they'll find out real quick that it's not your B-Day.

Workers at the SNU tent won't remember or care why you were picked. There's so many people. Show them the verification text and you are good. Pretty sure they just look at your license for your name. I can't even remember if they asked to see mine.

Happily, my son's birthday is just a couple days later. I feel OK about bending the date that small amount.

Thanks again for the feedback. What a GREAT EXPERIENCE! Our seats were surrounded by terrific folks, and my son really got into making noise and the suspense of the comeback.
