I was having a conversation today and was ask the question, do u think Tomlin should be coach of the year if steelers make the playoffs? I immediately said no, Rivera has that locked up and he probably does

But I did some thinking and I know I am a homer. Look at what the steelers have overcome. I don't know how many teams can do that. When u look at ALL we have overcome this year it's kinda amazing.

He won't win it and probably won't be considered but damn. What other team could do what we have this year

I still haven't forgotten the comedy of errors in the Baltimore game.

    Nor have I forgiven MT.

We could be within one game of the Bungholes right now. But if IF and BUTS were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas.

    Sigh...

I thought about starting a thread about this the other day but I figure Andy Reid is such a lock for this that there's really no competition for him. Also Rivera might should get it since he is looking to run an undefeated effort this year. I have and still do think Tomlin deserves some consideration this year though because we've done better than expected under the circumstances. HOWEVER, there have also been some coaching decisions that have very likely cost us some games too. At least one. I fully believe it was just pathetic coaching that lost us the rats game this year. Also we kept fielding a loser with Jones and almost being cost because of that as well. Not to mention an incredibly stupid play in the Seattle game. That was a major contributing factor to losing that game too.

Coach of the Year is usually a really poor choice. It is completely based on record and press with seemingly no other factors.

I can't see Rivera losing based on record.

Bowles deserves an honorable mention if he makes the playoffs.

I want to see more wins i want to see a championship. We sealed the north last year and i expect to capitalized on that this season. I'm sure Tomlin's objective is to do just that obviously will see. It's too premature to be crowning any coach.

No. A coach of the year can't cost his team games with questionable game and clock management decisions. He's done some good things, to be sure. However I also think his "gut" decision making is at least partially the cause of our tenuous playoff status.

I think you have to put him in the talk.
But, I think Ron Rivera might take it. Taking a 7-9 team (made playoffs) to a 13-0 team is pretty impressive.

No... IMHO, Rivera and Reid are more deserving. Rotting Boykin on the bench, Scobee and Jacoby Jones signings and some questionable play calls that cost the Steelers games... keep him out of consideration for Coach of the Year. I'm grateful we have Tomlin as a head coach, but I have to be objective.

I think it will be Rivera. Gives Charger fan(s) another reason to hate current ownership and FO!

He can be in the discussion but Rivera will get it. It's not just that they are undefeated, its who they are undefeated with. Its not a team loaded with stars. Great job by him.

A coach of the year would not have Blake on the field. No. He will never win coach of the year by playing favorites instead of better players on the roster.

Please, there are a lot of coaches who have done more with less than tomlin has this year, at least 4 coaches have turned a losing season around and are now holding a playoff seed, I might add that the chiefs arent the only team to turn their season around, the packers, seahawks and vikings have done it, we were in the playoffs last year and right now we arent even seeded, tomlin will not even be in the conversation for C-O-Y.....

Anyone who hires Michael Vick and Josh Scobee should not be in contention for Coach of the Year. :nono:

NO, we are 8-5.... hardly anything to write home about. Give it to Rivera in Carolina, he's the most deserving at this point.

I am not sure those here his calls and that kinda makes my point. We are in contention when we have lost our starting qb, starting tailback and had 4 kickers

I say it is definitely between Reid and Rivera. Actually I think what Reid is doing is more "historical" in the sense that I don't think any team has ever started 1-5 and made the playoffs. And of course we all know who that "1" was too. Sigh.....

IMO - We are in contention in spite of Tomlin not because of him.

BA coaches circles around Tomlin. I find it funny how the FBAI crew could never give him credit for how well he's done since "retiring."

If you watched his episode of A Football Life he literally says that he got fired here. The whole "retiring" thing was just ridiculous. He said when we won in 08 that during the parade he was still getting booed by fans and one guy said "GET A FULLBACK!!!" and he laughed at the guy and said "NEVER!" It showed that Ben genuinely does love the guy though. There was on field footage after SB 43 when him and Tomlin and BA were putting their SB shirts on and Ben said "Don't let coach go!" and Tomlin said "Y'all know something I don't?!" It was absolutely the Rooney's that let him go. Our offense has gotten better though. We are actually the opposite of what we were in the BA years now. We were an average offense with an elite defense. Now we are a below average defense with an elite offense. Honestly though I really believe BA and Tomlin coach a lot alike. They are both so risky that sometimes they really get their more conservative minded fans really worked up.
