I'm going to just say KC gets in at 11-5 or 10-6 as the other wildcard based on having the head to head over the Steelers. So that leaves the Jets left as the other team to get in over. I'm going to say the Bills and Texans both lose at least one more game which probably will happen to put them at 7 losses. So that takes care of them. So the Steelers can probably lose one more game and get in over the Jets at 10-6 as long as they lose one of their 3 AFC games they have left either against the Titans Patriots or Bills. If that happens both teams finish at 10-6 with a 7-5 conference record. The next tiebraker is common opponents which the Steelers would win over the Jets in this scenario and here is how. The common opponents for the Steelers and Jets are the Browns,Patriots,Colts, and Raiders. Unless the Steelers lose to the Browns the last week of the season which won't happen the Steelers would win this tiebraker based on the Steelers beating the Raiders and the Jets losing to the Raiders. The Steelers would win the common games tiebraker 4-1 to 3-2. So it's going to take a 10-6 record to get in and assuming the Steelers beat both the Ravens and Browns the last two weeks of the season they are going to need to win one of these next two games with either the Bengals or Broncos. We will see if the Bengals are the best team in the AFC like the guys on NBC were saying tonight.

We need to win out end of story or were not getting in
If we lose next week to Cincinnati and both Chiefs and the Jets win we will be 2 back with three games left to play

They would be 1 back of the Jets. Just as the original poster stated, the Steelers will win a 10-6 2 team tiebreaker with the Jets. They're won't be another 10-6 team except the Chiefs (who likely will get to 11-5). The Colts and Texans both have 6 losses already and play each other. The Bills have 6 losses and play the Jets in Week 17, so one of them is getting a loss.

If the Steelers split the next 2, then win the last 2, they'll get the 6 seed. If they don't - the KC loss will be what killed them.

    thanks for figuring this out.

New England will beat the Jets I suspect, so this seems plausible.

I think we need to win out...I don't think the Jets will lose ....The D looked fairly good without Revis and there O is moving the ball good as well ....Fitz and Marshall seem to have that Ben/Brown type of connection going...

Even if the Jets some how beat NE, the Bills would beat the Jets in 10-6 tie, so if the Bills win out they'd have a vested interest in the week 17 game. At 10-6, unless the Steelers beat Cincy next week, the Bills and Steelers would have the same common opponent record (1-4) so it then goes to strength of victory. The Steelers would have two big wins that should push them ahead of the Bills (Arizona and Denver) so the Steelers would likely get the 6 seed.

Realistically, if the Steelers get to 10-6 and beat the Browns and Ravens, they should get in.

I predict the Bills will beat the Jets because Rex would absolutely love to put his old team out. I just wish the giants could have helped us out today. Also the Raiders could have done us a little favor but really the Chiefs head to head over us is huge. So sickening that Ben had to miss time this year.

If we take care of our business we don't need help from anyone.

Playoff watch always gets interesting this time of year.....that strength of victory vs. Buffalo could get very interesting. If Buffalo were to win out and the Steelers win the last two but split with Denver/Cincy, the current win count for Steelers opponents (victories) would be 50 and for Buffalo opponents (victories) would be 52 (after the Dallas-Washington game). So, even though the odds are remote, doesn't hurt to start rooting for teams we've beaten, starting with Arizona over Minnesota next Thursday. Yeah, yeah....take care of our own business, but in the meantime......losses for Miami and wins for NFC West teams aren't a bad thing..
