But you have to have a scheme to execute, right? :hmm:

I mostly agree with this post. However analytics do need to be strongly considered before making a gut decision. And these decisions are not just head scratchers, they want to make you bang your head off the wall.

Okay.. I was wrong about that but he was DB coach for 8 years and defensive coordinator for one. So what's the excuse now for our secondary regressing every year?

Man honestly there's this thing I've noticed in the NFL for a long time. It seems like every time a "defensive" coach goes to a team they wind up not having a good defense but a good offense and vice versa. Me and my buddy have talked about this for years.

Well Brian Billick has a good offense in Minnesota and goes to Baltimore and couldn't field one to save his life but has a good defense. Tony Dungy has a great d in Tampa but can't put together a good offense but then goes to Indy and it's vice versa. There are more examples of it. Tomlin seems to have put together a great offensive staff but our d is clearly lacking. I hope he can get it turned around.

Haleys playcalling is terrible not because his plays are horrible but because of WHEN he calls. We've thrown the ball a lot in past so we could run the ball. The running game is who we are and if you dont abandon it, it wont allow for stupid turnovers and become momentum changers, Cowher understood that. This offense would be unstoppable if we had an OC who has never had these options all on the same team outhink himself when faced with situational playcalling. He's pathetic

No coach can do it alone. Not even Noll could.

We had leaders on the defense who were "mean", and very vocal, in both the Steel Curtain (Joe Greene) and Blitzburgh (Joey Porter) days. Hines Ward (a leader) was there for both #5 and 6 SB's. The team NEVER won a SB without at least one of those types of personalities on the team, and never will. Currently, no true leaders. These guys are way too passive.

Ben seemed pretty animated with Bryant this weekend honestly. He actually basically horsecollared him to tell him something. I think Ben has become a pretty good leader honestly. He has been really encouraging to AV as well.

At first, I clicked on the "Agree" button...

Then I remembered we have Ben, and Heath, and Antonio Brown, and Cam Heyward, and James Harrison, and I`m not so sure we don`t have outspoken "leaders" on either side of the ball...

    As for Tomlin...

    I just don`t know...

I was with him, going for it early, in the Seahawks game, to try to win, instead of playing it safe...

Later in the game, not so much...

He talks a good game, and I don`t think he`s a fool, but...

Results are what count, and those are kinda lacking...

Yeah he hasn`t had a losing record, etc...

But, we expect more... And when we keep hearing the same cliches, and nothing really changes..

We get frustrated. We want the glaring problems fixed.

    Coaches coach, and players play...

But if the coaches don`t put players in good situations, or change players, that aren`t performing...
They need to be held accountable, as well...

At least we aren`t as bad as the Clowns...

There is a local radio show here, who have started a contest called "name the game"...

And they play a snippet of Pettine`s post game press conference,

and the callers to the radio show have to guess what game he`s talking about..

Invariably, he always says the same things...
"Dissapointing"... "We need to fix that".. "We did some good things, but..."...
"We showed some good effort, but..."..."We just failed to make plays, and they did"...
"This was a tough loss to swallow"... "We had our chances, and didn`t capitalize"...
"Bottom line is we need to play better"..."We have to be more disciplined"..."We just didn`t play well enough to win"...

    etc, etc, etc...

When you only win 2 games out of 11, I guess you`re bound to repeat yourself about your frustration...

But it does make for a funny call-in contest, when fans of the team call in, and they`re not even sure, which game the Coach is talking about, because they all seem to go the same way.

Just sayin... It could be worse... But I expect better!:roflmao::herewego!:

I saw a Belichick thing along the lines of the Pettine thing where they would play excerpts from his pressers and ask his former PLAYERS to say whether it was after a win or a loss and even THEY couldn't say! LOL!!! I always say that coaches generally do speak in cliches and all their words are basically sound and fury signifying nothing. The other day in the gameday thread I said that "If Tomlin says we're not gonna live in our fears I'm gonna spontaneously combust from anger!" Then at halftime what does he say??? Dude I laughed but it was really irritating to hear the same old self aggrandizing nonsense. What's funny is a guy I work with was talking about how Tomlin said that and I was like "yeah well if you're a Steelers fan you're so sick of that crap you can't even stand it." He didn't know that Tomlin speaks in constant cliches and platitudes.

He might be just a bit to much of a players coach....He seems to play favorites ,and the guys seem to like him more than they should...

To each there own , but we lack grit and heart and want to,, a lot of the time ..IMO this comes from to much Buddy, Buddy and not enough Boss-Worker....

He needs to Shoot some Hostages ........

I bet most of the people here have no experience playing pro football either but that doesn't stop us from talking about it...
