My first post on the forum. Looking forward to the discussions!!

There was a running back with dreadlocks on the field in Seattle today who was iced out of the offense at key moments. And his name WASN'T Marshawn Lynch! It was DeAngelo Williams!!

What happened to running the ball. What happened to a balanced attack?!? DeAngelo had success almost every time he touched the ball. The O-line was pumped every time (what few times there were) that we ran the ball. But Todd Haley completely went away from the run. I just don't like this current approach. Its all about Ben. He must audible or call time out anytime a running play is sent in. I just don't get it. Steelers ball has always been about running the ball and playing defense. I just don't get it. Oh, and Antwon Blake HAS to be cut and replaced.

I don't know who went away from the run (Ben or Haley or both), but Williams is a beast and we have used him too little the last few games. I think they have gotten too enamored with Brown and Bryant and big plays. the best evidence is 3rd and 2 and not running. That should be a running down a good bit of the time, not an opportunity to air it out.

Welcome to the board! I LOVE DeAngelo but I have no problem with the Steelers strategy to pass the ball down Seattle's throat yesterday. It worked pretty well since we put up 30 on them. D-Will was also very involved in the passing attack which I liked. I thought with your thread name you were going to make reference to the beastly block DW put on the D-lineman yesterday and absolutely put him on his butt. He's done that a couple of times this year. And YES, you are correct, Blake must be benched. I don't necessarily think we're in a position to cut him right now, but his butt needs to be full of splinters from riding the pine!

Agree. Up 21-14 and actually in control, you should go to the run and beat the defense down. Then you can take your shots down the field. Go long early (like we did) and loosed the defense. Then when you're up, run it down their throats and tighten the safeties and linebackers up to stop run. Then go play action and take more shots down the field. They have all of the tools to execute this now. For years we couldn't because we didn't the O-line or receivers. Now that we do, we can kill teams with this. Stretch the D, contract the D, then stretch again. Now its just throw bombs and get picked off 2-3 times a game. 3rd and 2 and you pass with that O-line and DW in the backfield?!?!? Just unbelievable. So okay, we can keep throwing the ball down people's noses, and padding Ben's numbers and NOT make the playoffs. I don't get it.

Welcome! Personally I liked our game plan against Seattle. It worked really well. They didn't have the corners to match up with our second and third WR options. Bryant and Wheaton absolutely abused the guys tat were covering them. Williams did a nice job in pass protection helping out the OL and had some decent catch and runs as well. We found Seattle's weakness and attacked it all game long. That's what you want your coaches to do.

It's just too bad that our defense dropped the ball so hard. That was a game we should've won.

Welcome to the board. Ground and pound and a stifling defense is not this teams identity anymore and hasnt been for years.

Its an ariel attack and bend but don't break defense. Certainly broke Sunday though.

I tell you this, I wish our guys would hit like Chancellor, that guy was knocking people into next week.

    Welcome to Steelernation recovery hotline.
Uncle "snoop dog" is a beast and a outstanding pick up...but the passing game was on fire yesterday. If Ben have stuck to the plan and not try to force it to Brown ...we would've won.

The passing game was on fire, but when you do it all the time, you can get burned. The INTs were costly, put the D in bad positions and killed drives. Possession is 9/10ths of the law, and a key to football, too. More running tends to keep the ball in your hands more than passing does, especially when the long ball is thrown into coverage. This is especially true when your D is struggling, as it has been the past few weeks. Passing a lot is high reward, and high risk. The risk is worth it when you have a D that is playing well. More of a balance tends to make thing work better all around.
