If you look at the play where Bryant fumbled on the bomb you can see DHB got the CB up tight and forced the Safety to bracket him....This gave room for Bryant and it gave him room to score had he put the ball in his outside arm....

This is not the only time DHB is the inside guy on Bryant's long catches .. Dating back to last year 80 some percent of Bryant's big catches have came with DHB inside of him ....To me that is not a fluke ...If you look at Brown's work most of his TD'S come from rub routes by Miller ...I would say over 80 percent haven't added that up....

The point being it is clear that DHB has as much to do with the success of Bryant as Miller has to do with Brown ....This Ladies and Gentleman is called scheme or plan of Attack if you will . So DHB gets 15% of the snaps and Bryant is open 80 % of the time when he gets those snaps that is direct proof that DHB is drawing bracket coverage and helping his team mate get open....The exact thing I was seeing on film last year when Ben was going off .....

I would like to see a young Coats get some experience and see what he can do, versus a receiver that can't can't catch but can block.

You said it yourself, it's the scheme. I can guarantee you that the defenses aren't keying on DHB (or even Miller). They key on the play. You say that they bracket DHB. Ok, I'm sure they do. But I'm certain they don't bracket him because he's DHB, they bracket him because of where he's lined up and what route he runs. They would bracket Wheaton if he ran the same route next to Bryant. Or if it was Jacoby Jones. Or Jesse James. They bracket the inside guy because that's what the play dictates. The defense is not shifting coverage away from AB or Bryant simply because DHB is on the field.

DHB is a good football player and we are lucky to have him for such a cheap price. We'll need to find more of that kind of player in the coming years if we want to continue to field a competitive team. But to insinuate that Martavis Bryant owes a degree of his success to DHB is borderline insulting to Bryant and his talent.

Actually I am saying that is exactly why they Bracket him
The scheme is to put the Fast guy in the slot and force the CB to play bump and run and to force the Safety to shade to DHB . When Wheaton lines up they do not Bracket him on a go route or a seam route. They shade the outside. The Safety is driven down hill on Bryant with Wheaton is in the slot .....The Safety is running up hill when DHB is in the slot trying to Catch Bryant from behind....

I will try and get you some clips I wished I could steal some all 22 and show you it is as clear as day the extra space that DHB creates .

DHB is good for the long ball, he has terrible hands on slant and crossing routes.
He is a good guy to have for special teams.

He is a good #5 or #4 WR if you need him.

That's about it. He was never a 1st round talent Al Davis feel in love with his 40 time and drafted him round 1.

Most recent the Bryant Fumble play when 33 drives down to DHB and force on DHB from the CB ..I will add more ...Colts game 2014 multiple plays DHB takes 2 guys leaving Bryant 1 on 1. Week 9 multiple times used same concept to get Bryant, Wheaton, and Bryant free . ...

I think the OP went a little overboard with the praise of DHB. :smiley1:

At the moment DHB and Wheaton are the ones who seem to be jostling for field time.

Both have shown weaknesses - DHB's catching, Wheaton's routes and adjustments.

So who is the better blocker of the two, does everyone think?

Id rather have the guy who is a better receiver and has better hands than the guy who blocks better... That's just me tho.

I'm not saying blocking doesn't matter at all, but it shouldn't be a deciding factor in who gets to see the field as a WR. It's like choosing a punter with a worse leg because he is a better tackler lol

Agree, but in my view it's a toss up between DHB and Wheaton as to who is the better receiver right now. If I had a nickel for every time Ben and Wheaton seem to "not be on the same page...." At the risk of feeding PWP's DHB pimping hobby, I feel at least as comfortable with DHB on the field as the 3rd WR as I do with Wheaton.

Just don't throw it deep to him, unless he's WIDE open. The man can't adjust to a ball to save his life, and will only lead to interceptions.

Wheaton literally came flat out and said last week that there's a definite chemistry problem between him and Ben. I've been saying that forever.

Maybe it is a toss up... I'm not saying I'm not comfortable whith DHB on the field either. I just see Wheaton as a guy capable of the slot and DHB as a guy who isn't. That's the deciding factor for me. We really only have 2 guys on the team who would be competent slot receivers, and one of them happenes to be AB.

    Ben's checks on every play

    1. Is AB open?
    - the answer to this is yes on at least 80-90 percent of the plays. He's open sometimes when he's not.

    2. Does Marty have the CB beat deep?
    - the answer to this is also most likely yes. His pterodactyl like wingspan makes him more open than he is on most occasions too.

    3. Oh $h!t, I'm running out of time.
    - dump it to Heath or the RB

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any room for Wheaton on the list haha

I'm all for force feeding our studs. We have plenty of them on offense, and we absolutely should be getting them the ball often. Our whole offense is Brown, Bryant, and Bell (Ben obviously). The other guys will see limited targets throughout the year (Heath gets a decent amount depending on the matchup). So to me, it's easy to understand how Ben and Wheaton don't seem to be on the same page all the time. He's probably going elsewhere with the ball anyways.

Just as stated above there is only 1 Football . So it is actually better to have the better blocker as a #3 WR with this Team ...We have plenty of weapons so the guy who runs his routes at full speed, the guy who blocks best for the running game , and the guy who gets down the field and blocks after the Catch has greater value than the guy that says me and Ben aren't always on the same page...

Him feeling like that leads to poor blocking, leads to poor route running , and leads to less big plays for other guys ....
