Watching yesterday's game the thing that frustrated me most (as it has for much of this season) wad 3rd down conversions. Iirc we've done very well on that this in the past couple years. This year I think we are something like 28th in the league while we are 13th in points allowed. Red zone continues to suck as it has for the past few years.

I think in terms of pass D I'm concerned that no consistent pass rusher has really emerged on this team yet. We are going to need one for a playoff run.

Right now I think our best pass rusher is Tuitt.

Before someone corrects it, I'm very concerned about PUSS defense. Very important in my book!

    I voted conversions myself.

Lmao... that's what I get for doing this on my bloody iPhone. I just tried to edit it but there does not seem to be a way. Seems I can only add more choices.

I'm concerned with both, really. Manziel threw for over 372 yards yesterday... That's got to be a concern. I believe we had 6 sacks and 3 turnovers and our D kept the Browns from converting those yards into a lot of points, but can we rely on turnovers every week? I know it's all part of the game, but the pass D is definitely concerning.

Conversions. We have a high powered offense and if we are going anywhere in the playoffs, they can't be leaving any points on the field. The pass defense is minorly concerning too, but for the most part we seem to do well getting sacks, turnovers and holding the opposition to 3 in the red zone. That kinda offsets the passing yardage IMO. Also, we've played some good passing offense tho in Cincy, NE, SD, and Oakland, so those teams are going to get theirs.

I believe I mentioned this in another post, but how we play defense is how the NFL is trending with all the rules favoring the offense. In order to keep teams out of the end zone you have to get sacks, get turnovers, and hold to a FG in the red zone. Nobody is going to have a D that just shuts the opposition down every week anymore. We have done that part of defense pretty well so far this year.

If we can get better with our conversions and we put up over 30 every game, we will be a really hard team to beat.

None of them. Injuries are the main concern for this team.

So far (help me if I miss someone), we've missed significant playing time from several players:
O: Ben, Bell (Suspension, IR), Bryant (Suspension, injured w5), Pouncey (IR-Designation to return -when??), Beachum (IR), Adams (IR), Gradkowski (IR), Vick (??).
    ST: Suisham
D: Cortez Allen (IR), J. Jones, Will Allen, Shazier, Harrison, Tuitt.

Don't get me wrong. Both stats are important, and we should improve on them, but...
We've allowed a lot of passing yards to several teams, despite giving up less points. As far as we:
    • Create turnovers
    • Stop them inside the 20
    • Keep them away from translating yards into points
All other defensive stats are meaningless.
So, we gave up 350+ passing yards to both Arizona (421) and Cleveland (372)? And that, combined (793 yards) translated into... mere 22 points.

I guess last couple seasons we admitted less passing yards, but more points and created less turnovers. Our defense wasn't a momentum changer last couple seasons, and this year they've been strong and consistent in doing so, despite allowing more yards.

On offense, you can have a low 3rd down conversion rate, but a great success on 1st and 2nd downs...

    Pretty much perspective

This (and everything else you said) is why I voted for conversions.

Not one of the options, but I am concerned about special teams. I think we have been unlucky with injuries, and lucky in a few games with opponents self-destructing, but special teams has been flirting with disaster. That needs to be fixed.

Conversions. Get off the damned field on 3rd down, and the passing yards take care of themselves.

The pass defense is hard to watch, but they make BIG hits and force a ton of turnovers.

Turnovers excite me the most because they have won quite a few games, and should be more.

Points off turnovers is my main concern ;)

I would take this one level further - pass D as it relates to TE's. This D simply cannot cover them. If I were an opposing OC, I would line up 3 TE's on every play until the Steelers showed they could stop it. We've made some very average players look very studly.

Which is cause for concern - for *if* we end up in the dance, there's a monster TE that we will need to slay in order to move forward.

The pass D by a huge margin . We can get torched by any decent Combo on any given day .. Any Team willing to use a quick passing game can throw on this Team at will...

They stopped the bungles from scoring untill the last minute of the game with decent pass defense, I think they didnt take manziel seriously and he moved the ball on them between the twenties but they kept him from scoring in the red zone, I dont have a problem with their pass defense, they have been getting the take aways and in the final analysis that is the best asset of a pass defense....

On the 3rd down conversions, it seems whenever the first and second down plays take a ton of effort by Heyward and Tuitt and they are spelled with Cam Thomas and someone else, the 3rd down conversion percentage goes up.

Overall I am happy with their plays thus far.

What I don't like is the conversion of 3rd and long. They work so hard on 1st and 2nd down and then give up the big play
