I like Tyler Murphy's potential, but not as a QB (unless we decide to become a read option team in Ben's absence).

but as a 3rd string qb while ben is down? do we really need to go outside the org. at this point?

why is that so funny glenn? as our 3rd emergency qb? really? he should at least be familiar with the offense somewhat. he probably wouldn't ever see the field. hell landry's been here 3 years and has never dressed. he did play the position at boston college, so it's not out of the rehlm of possibility to think he could do it as a last resort here.

Maybe as an emergency QB if all our others go down during a game, but not as a designated 3rd QB.
I think Randel EL was an emergency QB.
I believe Heath is their emergency QB at the moment or at least he has been the last few years.

Wow...where is charlie batch when you need him?...lol...I hope Vick have a game for us like he had against us last year.Beat the ravens with him will go a long way with his confidence. But question, if Vick gets hurt in game then who do we go to?! This was the most important position that we could ill afford to lose a starter ...and now its a reality. This is where coach T will really prove himself as a great coach

well that's been the jist of this whole thread. they would have to activate him though. if they did activate him as an emergency qb then he would in fact be the 3rd designated qb for the short term. we do have a game in two days. i would trust murphy over heath at this point if our other two went down. he did play qb last year in college and ran a limited few plays in the preseason, and heath hasn't done it since high school.

I wouldn't sweat over whether or not some practice squad player gets a hat as an emergency QB. JMO

He never threw a pass in pre season, and he has no nfl qb potential, and it's highly unlikely both vick and LJ would both get injured anyway, this is silly talk......

Maybe could be down by 6 with 30 seconds left from the 15 with no time outs when QB #2 goes down . In a situation like that you need the guy who has the most recent experience. At least a guy who threw a few balls in camp would be better than a guy who hadn't been under Center in 10 years ...

Maybe he has 2 or 3 plays he knows ? Which might increase your small chance.

exactly. you other guys need to read the thread fully before flipping out that anyone wants tyler murphy playing instead of vick or landry. it's all about not bringing in another qb from outside for the short term while ben is out as an emergency only situation.

We only dress two QB's on gameday, so I see no reason to dress Murphy. Heath is the emergency QB. If Vick or Jones gets hurt then we'll sign another QB.
Besides how often do teams have two QB's injured in a game? 256 games in the regular season and how often does it happen that a team has to go to the emergency QB? Once a year?

It's happened before, but I agree the percentages shouldn't allow the knee jerk reaction. Besides, I'd take a heady Heath going long and tall against the wind before I would a rookie which of whom may have had some success at QB in college, will never be a QB at the pro level.

If the staff is thinking of Murphy as the 3rd emergency QB, we will probably see Coates become inactive and Cashaud Lyons or some other cat go to the PS so Murphy can be back on the 53. As of right now, they've added Finney to the PS and that's the only movement I've seen.

Anything would be better than AB trying that ill-fated and ill-timed gadget play used against the Pats again. I'd sure like to know what was supposed to happen on that play. Even the Bus' halfback option passes (for the most part) didn't look as lame.

We ran that exact play last season with AB and it worked for a TD.

Thank you Sir. I do not recall that play. But blame for its failure this time obviously falls squarely on Tomlin for not destroying all network game film to prevent defenses from game-planning it (like Billicheat would have done).

That play was nothing more than badly executed and ill timed. Totally killed the momentum

Back in 1977, Tony Dungy had to go in as the emergency QB when Mike Kruczek was injured. Kruczek was the only QB active for that game.

Dungy went 3-8 for 43 yards two INT's.

It's always best to have a back-up to a back-up in the lineup just in case.
