Hello to all the steelers fans,

Im from Mexico City and I will go for first time to Pittsburgh on October 30 to watch the Steelers vs Bengals match, but I dont have a clear idea about what to do.

Could you please give me some recommendations? Things like : best time to get to the stadium, a good way to spend the time before and after the game, etc.

I will go alone, so your guidance will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Carlos,

If your coming to Pittsburgh on the 30th the game is Nov. 1st. So that will give you a little time to see things.
I would advise you to ride the Incline on Mount Washington. But, I heard they may be doing some construction on that.
So it may or may not be open.
I would go over to the Strip District there are some neat shops that sell a of Steelers related items. While there in the strip district stop on Smallman street in the strip district and visit Primanti Brothers and get a great Pittsburgh sandwich.
    https://www.primantibros.com/locations/strip-district/
As far as sights, I would go to the Carnegie Science center it's located right next to Heinz field. I would go to the Heinz History Center over near the strip district as well. Lots of old sports history and history items to see.
There is quite a bit to do over a couple days till hold you over until the game.
After the game quite a few good bars to hopefully celebrate a good Steelers victory!

Be sure to check out the Heinz field tour, well worth it. Plenty of places to eat, really enjoyed going to Proper Pizza. Brick oven, home made, with some great appetizers. Be sure to have an I.C. beer or two. Tilted Kilt has some nice scenery as well:hehehe:

That tour is worth its value. But you need to check the schedule, I guess it doesn't run from November till March, or somewhere in between.

It's funny - when a stranger to Pittsburgh is given advice where to go and hang out - everyone tells them to definitely head over to the Strip District. I wonder how many visitors get the wrong impression? I've seen and passed through many such areas in my days across the land and they're not exactly where one would advise an innocent visitor to hang out. I haven't lived in the Burgh for a long time - does the name reference its narrow geography or former seedy hangouts?

It's not a bad part of town. Just don't go any where that says HILL DISTRICT. But, if Carlos is from Mexico City, I think may have seen his share of crazy things in his days.

Strip district is an area that had seen it's better and worse days, but has transformed into one of the key features of the city.

My Mother and Uncle used to live quite near there growing up and have told me of when they would go down there and sneak peanuts from barrels.

My favorite eatery/supermarket is Wholey's Fish Market

Lot's of fun going down there and getting to eat upstairs.

Oh and everyone always says Primanti Brothers...blah! It's not the same as when I grew up there and personally I really don't enjoy it.

If you want some good bread and pastries though Try finding a Mancini's Bakery. I think there's one on the strip as well. The Pizzelles are awesome!

    Welcome Carlos :drinks:

Loved my first trip to the Burgh, hope you enjoy yours as well.

Make sure you get to the Stadium earlier enough to check out the Great Hall, its awesome, Steelers personal HOF tribute to all the Black and Gold legends. :thumbs up:

Well ,one of the main ideas of visiting Pittsburgh is to know the essence of the city and It looks that Strip District captures a part of that essence. And of course, my hometown has given me a great training to face all kind of crazy things jaja.

    Thanks for your advise !

It does not, the strip district is /was known for its many produce yards where truckers from all over the USA would deliver fresh produce to PGH metropolitan area for distribution. Other suggestions for your visit Bloomfield, Oakland, Squirrel Hill and Southside, sections of the city of PGH. Oakland has the Carnegie Muse, Pitt, CMU. Bloomfield happens to be called little Italy great place to see how we live here. Del's or Tessarios. Squirrel Hill Mineo's Pizza. Southside you can find pretty much find what ever your heart desires LOL. All other places mentioned are good. MT Washington LeMont $$$$$$Have fun and be safe.

Some dude needed advice a week ago, he's coming from california in December. As I told him, go over to station square, get on the ferry, ride the Three rivers on a boat, the memories last forever
