He also had to face Peyton Manning twice a year in his prime for a long time too. That team he took to the Super Bowl was pretty stacked with talent really. He also put up a 13-3 season with Kerry Collins as their qb as well. McNair is really the only guy he ever truly had to work with. I'm not saying I want him as our coach but I am definitely saying I don't think he's all that bad either.

He plays the type of football I like. Nothing against Tomlin but Cowher was my guy and Fisher is cut of that mold. Give him the keys and see what he can do.

Yes. I have a really good buddy that's a huge Packers fan and he criticizes Aaron Rodgers a LOT and there are a lot of their fans that aren't big McCarthy fans either. Pats fans give Bill the business a lot too. At least a few of them do. It takes all kinds and really most fan bases are pretty much the same. Some level headed people. Some not so level headed people. Some fairweather. Some not so fairweather.

Ben doesn't want to play that kind of football anymore, he did his first few years in the league. The Steelers have too many weapons to play that kind of football.

Fisher also has a great appreciation for old school football and team traditions. In 08 when Lendale White stomped the Towel Fisher called him in to his office the next day and said "Look. We don't do that here." and then told him the whole reason why we love the Terrible Towel and gave him a history lesson. I thought that was incredibly classy of him. I also have a friend that was at the Cowboys game where Haynesworth stepped on the dude's head and he said the stadium went deathly quiet and Fisher ran to midfield as Haynesworth was leaving and literally was screaming in his face and telling him what a punk he was for doing that. Fisher is a stand up guy.

It doesn't really matter what Ben wants since this is a hypothetical but if they fired Tomlin and Fisher was available I'd take Fisher for the reasons I stated. He like a power run game and always has a solid defense. Kinda what the Rooney's look for.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Ben played that way out of necessity under BA's playbook. I say if Ben had had Haley his whole career he wouldn't have played like that NEARLY as much.

Arians wasn't Ben's OC his first few years in the league.

Yeah Fisher uses a power run game and solid defense to go 8-8 or worse every year

Ben went WAY more overboard on the scrambling around after BA got here.

I'm really liking a lot of what I'm seeing in the team these days. The resilience that this team is showing is impressive, and that's at least partially a reflection of Tomlin. Talk to me again after the season, but right now I'll take the stupidity as an unfortunate by product of the total coaching package. I honestly think we have a shot at the SB, and I (obviously) don't want to disrupt that. What I really want is an assistant head coach who can just whisper in Tomlin's ear upon occasion to pull him back from the precipice when he's about to make a low probability gamble.

My point was Ben's first few years in the league he didn't throw much, they relied on a strong running game. I was telling Thorn I don't think Ben would want to play that type of football at this point in his career, under a coach like Fisher hypothetically.

It is what it is. I seem to be the only one playing this game so I like coaches who fit that style of football and all that it brings with it 8-8 seasons and turtle ball and no fun league and all that. It is just my preference. You keep coming back to Fishers record with the Titans and the Rams never know what he would do with a team that has weapons and a good defense as well as a franchise QB but it is fun to speculate.

I kinda feel the same as the radio guy. As a fan base, steelers fans are always quick to criticism of our coach. Not that anyone is above criticism... But there is a group of fans who always twist whatever problem we have into a "Tomlin's fault" problem.

The reality is that Tomlin, while flawed (as everybody is), is one of the best coaches in the league. What he's done with the roster turnover in the past few years has been really good stuff. Colbert deserves some praise too for his hand in helping rebuild this team.

My list of coaches to replace him if he were to get fired would be very short. Maybe 3 guys. Belichick, Pete Carroll, maybe Dan Quinn. That's about it.

Thank you! When that nit wit did a press conference when he was coaching the Titans he wore a Overrated Paty Manning jersey. Said he wanted to feel like a winner. Loser! amd-titans-jeff-fisher-jpg.jpg

You mean there is someone, ok not just one but multiple someones, in this universe that actually said that to you? I think they should be drugged tested before Bryant should be!

I don't really care for Tomlin and think he has made some boneheaded decisions over the years. That being said, he is the coach so I'll take the ups and downs.
If he were to be unavailable after this year and everyone was fair game, my list (in no particular order) would be as follows:
    Todd Bowles
    Dan Quinn
    Wade Philips
    Billy Davis
    Jeff Fisher
Peyton Manning (seriously, the guy has a great football mind)

Yes Jim but to be fair most are Vikings fans and one Lions fan so they have no true gauge for QB play.

Mike Tomlin certainly has his faults but still is probably a top 5 current NFL coach with the resume that he has built. His clock management is borderline pitiful and on field decisions very questionable.

I will forever question why you would go for 2 being only up by 2 in the 3rd quarter of a very tight game. It literally makes no mathematical sense whatsoever in that game situation. We came out with the win so again it will be swept under the rug but every now and again these decisions bite our team in the behind.

I look for another struggle this week only because we are playing a team that we should beat unquestionably. MT doesn't have a very solid record with those type of games.

Dumb luck is better than no luck!

I've given up trying to criticize Tomlin. If he ever strings a couple losing seasons together then I'll revisit that stance. There are some things I don't agree with, but hey, I guess there's a reason I sit on my ass 10 hours a day in a stupid cube and he's out there coaching the Steelers. While his gut decisions may backfire, I really think the players respond well to that kind of decision making.

Could we do better than Tomlin? Yes, absolutely. In a world of 6 billion+ people, there is a better head coach out there than him. I don't think we're anywhere close to finding out who that is.

Yeah, call me Crazy. I don't think he is a bad coach. Surround him with the proper coordinators and I think he could flourish (kind of the same can be said for Tomlin, perhaps)
