Most of the baseball fans around here know that there are some of us here that like the Cubs. So the other day I started thinking about how the Cubs have a really passionate fanbase that has suffered tons of heartbreak over the years but remain faithful nonetheless. Then I started thinking that in some weird way we have something in common with Browns fans in that regard. But as Cubs fans you just despise the Cardinals and as Steeler fans you despise the Browns and vice versa. BUT in the past few days online messages have popped up from Cards fans telling Cubs fans they're cheering for them to win it because they feel as fans that they deserve it. I feel that is INCREDIBLY classy and it got me to thinking about this question:

IF the Browns EVER made the Super Bowl could you POSSIBLY cheer for them to win it out of sympathy for their fans???

I personally couldn't because I feel their is something almost sacred in sports about your disdain for a certain team. I just wanted to see what others would think in this situation. I appreciate the class of the other fans that are wishing their rivals well but I guess I just don't have that much class??? What say you guys?

If they ever make it to the SB I will have been dead for a long, long time and therefore I won't be cheering for them.

95% of the time in any sport I will root for the team that beat my team in the playoffs to win it all. That will be the case for the Cubs this year. The exceptions to the rule is I will never ever ever root for the Stains, Philthy Fliers nor the Cardinals.

I wouldn't root for the rats to win it all. Would you?

Nope. In fact, If it came down to the Ravens versus Cowboys in the SB I'd probably rent a movie instead.

I did. I didn't want the 49ers to have six Lombardis.

Yeah I would too. But is that the only circumstance? Like really that's sort of an ulterior motive ya know? That's more wanting the cowboys to lose as opposed to the browns to win. But could you ever envision a scenario where you would flat out root for the browns to win for nothing else but to end the suffering of their fans and franchise?

Against Cowboys I would. Ravens against Cowboys go Ravens. Us Cubs fans have suffered long enough but it's not like we taunt others(Browns) lol

Btw I used to hate flacco. I wanted him dead lol. He's a pretty nice dude, at least seems so. Talks good things about us and doesn't really do stupid things off the field imo. Still hate when he wins lol

Ugh, that's a tough one... No I guess I wouldn't. Any AFC team losing gets the Steelers closer to the playoffs so I'd have to root for the Cowboys, but it may cause my head to explode

Don't have any pity or feelings for this version of the Browns - they're just a poorly conceived, owned and operated Pro sports expansion team that can't get traction unlike early successes like J-Ville and Carolina in the NFL or the Rockies and Diamondbacks in MLB. I truly hate the Ravens because they are the original Browns that used to beat the tar out of the Steelers during my childhood with Jim Brown, Lou Groza etc. I only root for the Ravens when they're playing the Pats, especially in the playoffs prior to facing the Steelers.

If we can't be in the Superbowl I always cheer for a team from our division if they are in it. Why not? Just helps make our division look that much tougher and us that much better when we do win it.

Oh for sure! I hate the rats WAY worse than the browns BUT the browns aren't winning right now and so I don't feel "threatened" by them and therefore don't get as emotionally invested in hating on them as much as I do the the rats. I can say for SURE that I hate the cowgirls worse than the browns. I also can't stand the giants as well and any team Rex Ryan coaches. What's sad is I really like the Bills as a franchise and respect their fanbase a great deal but then they get Rex Ryan and I have to hate on them until he's gone. The same thing happened when the 9ers hired a Harbaugh. I'm fine with the 9ers now although I'm not a Kap fan and probably never will be.

Okay I was able to make it past the Browns being in the Super Bowl and actually envision it...aaaaaaand, no I would probably root against them under any circumstance, even the Cowboys.
