most backups are not long time starters. i called where the ball was going pre snap for most of the game. vick stared them down before the ball was snapped. don't think nfl teams don't know this too. hassleback looked pretty good for his team. MT has forced MV on this offense and he's taken away our ability to function in a lot of scenario's. this is simple throws ex starters should be able to make. we better hope like heck bell doesn't go down with the extra defensive pressure teams are spending on stopping him alone. we have to be able to spread that ball around, backup or not. he's not your typical backup qb nor was he brought in to be. we had 10 frigging yards of offense in the 3rd quarter. if vick is still this far off of his passing he needs replaced. win or not. it very easily could have been our 2nd straight loss. we pulled that out of our arses. SD gave us some gifts. it wasn't what vick gave the offense for most of the game. we went to our bread and butter play makers, all except AB.

Vick get your head in the game more
Tomlin you better get another win against the cards in your house
Butler if palmer torches us I'm..

Were any of those near gifts even thrown to AB? Whats the excuse for those?

The backup QB doesnt deserve to be cut any slack. AB however has earned every right to talk. Not that he said anything wrong anyway. He also has said the exact same things to Vick.

I'm normally a guy who say stfu when players start talking to the media but in this case I'm going to say keep talking Mr. Brown. Everything he has said is true and as a veteran leader on the team and yes he is a vet and a leader he is doing his job. This isn't a diva clamoring for more throws his way because the team isn't throwing his way or enough. This is about winning football games and Vick isn't throwing to Brown and letting him make plays that will help win games. It isn't about a 5 for 50 streak it is about winning football games.

I found nothing wrong it what he said. He wants to be involved more, and with the comments i'm sure that he will be against Zona this week.
Better use him better this week if they want a chance. Vick as said doesn't want to make the big mistake, as he will. He can't read Defenses. He also doesn't go through progressions(check downs) very well.

Again, they are going to need Brown's playmaking ability in this game. They better figure it out. Hopefully Ben is back for the KC game. Not feeling positive about this tilt.

Why shouldn't Vick be criticized by other players for his poor performance? He should have told the reporter that he's not really sure how they even won that game and that they will need that same luck if they want to beat Arizona with #2 taking the snaps.

Bottom line. Vick needs to play better and if nobody tells him that then we have no shot at winning the game this Sunday.

...and ironically they would be 2-0 with Vick at QB had Antonio Brown been able to catch a ball that hit him right in the breadbasket.

Im obviously in the minority here so I went back and reread the article....and I stand by my original post. Look, Im not claiming that Brown is a Diva, Im not saying that he's any less of a player, Im not taking anything away from him. He's still the best WR in the game. He's still a tremendous athlete. But that doesn't exempt him from stepping out of line. And he did here.

Yes there is a lot of truth to what is said here in his defense. They do need to figure out a way to get him the ball more often. And the old cliche of "thats just the competitor in him, and that's what I want to hear" holds water. But this is something that you keep in house. You talk it over with Tomlin. You talk it over with Haley. You talk it over with Vick. But you ABSOLUTELY do not put that out in the media. EVER. Thats NOT what a veteran leader says.

As others have said above, Vick is lacking confidence in Vick. And clamoring for the ball and lobbying for yourself and your stats (which IMO IS what this is about....they are a BROWN drop away from being 2-0 with Vick, so it CANT be about winning FB games) isn't the way to go about instilling confidence in your 3rd string QB. As said 58Stillers said, it's only a matter of time before a confidence lacking Vick forces a ball to Brown and throws a pick 6.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I expect his intelligence to match his work ethic and production.

By saying what he said he's either A) too stupid to know better, or B) to arrogant to care.

Take your pick, neither are good.

The problem with any article like this is that we don't really know what question was posed to him, by whom and in what order he said all those things. Why did it take AB 27 times to essentially say the very same thing that Steeler Nation and his team mates and coaches already obviously know? Was he being egged on? Was every reporter asking him the same question and he kept responding with the same line of answers? One part that stuck out was when he said he was happiest when Steelers are winning AND he is racking up big stats. The implication is then that he is NOT happy when the Steelers are winning he he is NOT racking up huge stats. I'd much rather have Vick in the interim work on just managing the offense much better and hitting ANY open receiver and not be concerned about AB's stats. Sorry this doesn't line up with most other posters on this thread but our passing offense concerns right now are much bigger and more complex than just AB not getting the ball, although if they could connect, part of the problem could be resolved.

To be honest, Vick is a 3rd string QB, not a #2.

    Very true and good point
I do not know the exact context in which the question was asked and answered. I really would like to see (or hear) the unedited interview. THAT would possibly make me change my mind.

What he said didn't bother me much. Would I prefer that he stay quiet? Yes. However, he didn't exactly go off on a tirade either.

    Full Transcript:

It was a busy and interesting day of quotes at Pittsburgh Steelers practice on Wednesday as the team prepared for their upcoming game with the Arizona Cardinals. Wide receiver Antonio Brown stole the headlines as he complained about not getting the ball enough. I’ll admit, the quotes look “worse” from the complaint department than they came off in person, but they were complaints nonetheless. And although the Steelers were coming off a win on Monday night against San Diego, it was pretty clear Brown was serious that he needed to be a bigger part of the Mike Vick offense going forward. Here is the transcript of what Antonio had to say:

Q: Are they trying too hard to get you the ball, or are they not trying hard enough?

A: “I don’t know, man, I just think… I don’t know that’s a good question (laughs). I didn’t think I got the ball enough. But, you know, I always got to stay positive. Obviously my guy’s not at quarterback. Mike Vick’s out there and I think he’s just playing conservative to make sure we get the win. You know, he’s not going to take too many shots. He’s going to stick to the script and do the best he can.”

Q: Would you like to see them let him loose a little more?

A: “I don’t know, man, as long as we win. That’s all it’s about. Obviously I wanna get the ball and help the team win. That’s always my passion. But, some things are out of my control all I can do is go out there and play the game how it’s supposed to be played.”

Q: You’re not getting frustrated by it?

A: “Just stay positive, man, it’s a long season. I’m still up on that chart. We just gotta find a way to win and our business is winning. The rest of the stuff will take care of itself.”

Q: Why are you not getting the ball?

A: “Well, obviously our quarterback’s not at quarterback. I think Mike Vick’s just playing within the gameplan. He’s just playing conservative, trying to do what it takes to win. Not trying to make a mistake. And that’s about it.”

Q: Will it change after seeing those last two drives [against San Diego]?

A: “Uh, I don’t know. I know he’s not saying ‘don’t throw me the ball’. I’m sure he wants to get me the ball and I’m sure he’s going through his progression and trying to do the positive thing to help us get in good position.”

Q: Would you like to throw him the ball like you did in practice today?

A: “I told him that’s how you throw the ball (laughs). He went up and made a good play, man, that was exciting. I kidded with him about it. It’s all fun when you’re winning, you know?”

Q: You threw the ball when he was covered. Does he need to throw you the ball when you’re covered?

A: “Yeah, he gotta take some shots, man! I told him, ‘trust me a little bit, let me make some plays, and let’s get a victory! It doesn’t have to be that hard’”

Q: What did he say when you told him that?

A: “Oh, he started laughing. He thought it was pretty fun. I think he wants to get me the ball. I don’t think he’s not trying to get me the ball, it’s just he’s new out there. He hasn’t been here from the spring or Training Camp. So he’s just trying to do what’s right to put the team in position to make sure he doesn’t mess up.”

Q: Is that the most single coverage you saw against San Diego?

A: “I think on some certain third downs they had a little safety help. But from the earlier downs there was a lot single, one-on-one, and that’s what we’ve got to try and exploit.

Q: You had to be happy to see Ben Roethlisberger out there throwing.

A: “Yeah, real happy. He looked great I just think he’s got a little ways to go. But he’s definitely showing signs of coming back.”

Q: Ramon Foster said you guys ran a lot of deep routes in the game Monday, it just didn’t show up on TV. Is that right?

A: “Yeah, we had a lot of deep shots, we just didn’t throw them. I think we hit one with Markus Wheaton, a stop-and-go, and had me in the slot on the over to bring the safety down. But, we’re just got to find a way. If we keep winning, that’s all it’s about. It’s evident I do need the ball more.

Q: You don’t like being that decoy in the slot, do you?

A: “If I have to, man, I’m a team player. If it’s going to bring the safety down a lot, so guys get some one-on-ones to win, I’m all for it.”

Q: If you guys keep winning, is it easier to keep Roethlisberger on the sideline?

A: “No, no, no, no, no. You can’t keep ‘Seven’ on the sideline. We’ve gotta keep winning, but we gotta have ‘Seven’ come back. We’re going to need Mike Vick to be smart, we’re going to need to make plays, we’re going to do everything we do to keep this thing positive until he returns.

Q: Are the difficulties getting you the ball coming with pre-snap adjustments that Roethlisberger would be making?

A: “I just think Mike Vick looks over and sees me doubled and thinks, ‘Oh, I can’t go there. Or pre-snap he might see someone single covered so he might go to the positive match-up.”

Q: Your old coordinator Bruce Arians is coming back. What will he try to do to you?

A: “I think he’ll be fired up. They’re got a lot of good cornerbacks. Obviously, Patrick Peterson. I think that’s always a great matchup. Those guys are defensive ballhawks. Their front four is getting after the quarterback. They’re going to try to heat us up with pressure, obviously put a lot of guys in the box for Le’Veon [Bell]. B.A. hasn’t been here in so long. One thing I know about him, he’s going to throw the ball down the field. He doesn’t call the same play twice. He’s going to be fired up to come around here and light us up.”

Q: What kind of battle is it with you and Peterson?

A: “It’s an intense battle. And, coming off some positive games. He jumped a dig route. He made a nice interception against Calvin Johnson on the back shoulder. So I’m sure he’s going to be fired up. And knowing we’ve got a Mike Vick at quarterback he’s going to try to come after the ball and play aggressive.”

Bobby is entitled to his opinion but I dont see a damn thing wrong with any of that. The closest might be when he said our QB isn't out there but everyone knows that Ben is the leader, I dont think he meant that Vick isnt part of the team, I dont think he meant it in any negative way.

Mercy - that's a bunch of freaking questions. Do players have to stand there that long and take questions or can they just say: "Pardon me, I have to go rotate the air in my tires"?

If you think about it he's kind of a FOURTH qb since he wouldn't even be on this roster if not for the fact that Grad got hurt. Although maybe Landry is actually a 4th stringer???
