Loved Iron Head way back to his Pitt days and it's a really sad story, but I can understand (not agree with or like) their zero tolerance policy on this matter - there would be no stopping the bizarre possibilities. Go Cam - we support you in our hearts all the way.

Edit - certainly a fine was not needed - perhaps just a policy reminder letter for 1st time infractions. Someone on the CBS Sports site says he should have deflated his eye lids instead and he'd be OK.

If he used pink instead of black they probably wouldn't have fined him.

Anybody think Golden Boy Brady would be fined if his wife had breast cancer and he wore her name in the same fashion?

They'd be praising him for being a leader on the subject!

It's one of those rules that the league seems consistent with (though happy to be proved wrong).

That's almost the problem, though. Big difference between someone flouting the rules for some kind of self-centered showboating, and someone honoring their dad.

NFL needs to get a clue and lighten up. Wasn't like he wrote it on his pant legs or something.

    Just stupid.

I remember Craig Iron Head Heyward!!!! Liked watching him play. Love his son being on our Team........ also its a beautiful thing he is honoring his dad.......

    But.......

I agree with the league though..... You have to set rules and just imagine how bad some of that stuff would get if not restricted..........

Im surprised anyone is agreeing with Goodell on this.

Players should not be penalized for writing anything in their eye black that is not a. Advertising or b. Offensive.

Didn't Tebow wear "John 3:16" in his eye black every game?!

I agree. I can understand certain things not being allowed but to say that a player can't memorialize a family member for a single game is just dumb. The competition committee needs to look in to stuff like this and make exceptions. It's not like he's out there trying to make a political statement or something like that. This is even breast cancer awareness month and this seems totally pertinent to me as it falls under the "awareness" umbrella.

If I were the Steelers I'd show Cam some love and team support by making an Iron head helmet decal and wear it on the back of their helmets for the rest of the month

I hate to say it but that decision these days probably comes down to a few more people than Dan and Art Jr. I agree they should though.

Unbelievable. This league is such a joke.

Guy clearly violates rule and takes out a franchise QB by hitting low? No flag, no fine

Guy honors his deceased father offending no one? They fine him

    It's ludicrous really.

I really hope they wave that fine and offer the man an apology . Not the way to treat someone in that situation . If they make him pay it then every Steeler player should wear a F<<k RG the next game.

I know it sounds heartless, but you gotta understand where the league is coming from here. If they allow one person to bend the rules, then they have to let everybody (ironic considering the Brady situation). Writing on the eye black could open a Pandora's box to a whole bunch of other crap. Its one of the few things the league remains consistent on.

Is it a stupid thing to find someone for? Sure. He should be allowed to honor his dad. Should Williams be allowed to wear pink for his mom? Yeah. But they can't allow it otherwise some players will abuse it (think T.O. or Chad EightFive).

Unless a camera zooms in...we're not gonna se it.

Who's the player from this past weekend that scored and pointed to the glove on his wrist that had writing on it?
We barely saw a word, but it was there.
    A fine for that?

In life their are rules you have to follow, that includes the NFL.

That being said, Cam Heyward said he has worn this before honoring his late Father, with never a peep. Hmmmmm...

The joke of this is that they honor Breast Cancer month with all the players wearing pink. The NFL sells Breast Cancer Awareness Jerseys. This is big props for Goodell and his henchman. Doing good for those who suffer. That is so far from the truth it is sickening. It's ALL about business!

But because Heyward wore it during the NFL's feeble attempt to be the good guys during their Breast Cancer Awareness month, they fine him. That's it. Goodell and his henchmen at their finest.

It's ALL about the money and the owners are hitch to this as well. Makes me sick...
