Coaches are high on him, because of his versatility (RB/WR/KR) and speed.
Also, he had a splash play last playoff game vs Ravens, which probable raised eyebrows from coaches.
I agree on something: we seem to be loaded on RB and WR, and looks like we have some other weapons that can return kickoffs (Wheaton).

I'm going to say this: as soon as we drop him, he's going to get picked up by another team and take one to the house. Like the last one we had with same size, speed that Dri has. What was his name? He used to be #11, I guess, and later played for the Lions.

    ^Stefan Logan.

Archer did have a nice return last game. He was really close to ending it.

Let's all applaud his one play! :applaud: His specialty is watching kick offs sail over his head in the end zone...Now that is worth a roster spot if I ever saw one...

You might get your wish. They have to make a spot for Bryant this week.

Archer is the key to us getting that #7 imo. Did you see that run when he did get the ball? Man.. unstoppable. Every defender he came across didn't even want to touch him. He strikes fear into opponents. Did you see the bulk he added in the offseason? I think that's why.

3 headed monster with Archer leading the way

I really don't care who returns kicks. Steelers have returned 3 kicks in 4 games. As far as I'm concerned it is a non issue and a stupid thing to whine about.

If there is another player who helps the Steelers more than Archer fine.

No reason to be sarcastic over it or act like it is an issue. It's not.

Except for the fact that he isn't a real RB and he is #6 WR at best on this team behind AB, Bryant, Wheaton, DHB, Coates. Why would anyone keep someone on the roster just to catch a kickoff deep in the EZ or watch it sail out? The guy is a waste of a roster spot and needs to go away. I'm sick and tired hearing about this undersized undertalened scat back from Kent State who can't break a tackle. A 2 star HS player who was mediocre in college playing against lower tier defenses and doesn't belong in the pros. And he won't be returning KO's for TD's here or anywhere else because ANY contact or wind gusts or tall blades of grass will bring him down. The FO and coaches blew it by drafting him and they just can't admit they screwed up and won't cut him because of their silly pride. Cut him and move on.

I think you're missing the point. The problem is that his only job seems to be returning kicks which like you said, is a non issue. That's a whole roster spot for very little impact. That spot could be used for a different area of need.

They already solved that by signing a kicker with zero NFL experience.

My question is did they sign the new kicker more because he can do both so it might free up a roster spot? As for Dri Archer I think you could have seen more use of him this year until Ben got hurt...

The masses have spoken! Dri Archer isn't producing enough! We want high production from our 6th WR ! No space for kick returners! So mad right now!

Archer and Todman are two of the same though making one of them redundant.

I was thinking when they got todman it would come to this choice. Todman has more special team snaps (versatility) than Dri. I expect that it i will come down to whether todman has been deemed effective with his ST role. It is kinda funny that this was brought up this week when Dri had the best play I can remember. Either way we find out tomorrow when the roster exemption for bryant expires.

how about spaeth? we have gotten about half a season out of him in 2 and a quarter years. why all the hate on archer? who are we going to get and where will they play? heck we kept jesse james and we used hubbard as a 2nd TE all game. heck we got boykin and he's played 11 plays and cost us a 5th round pick. we have a 4th round qb thats been here for 2 1/4 years and we bring in a washed up useless qb to play over him. we have a safety that can't even see the field. we have a 34 year old safety starting. we have another one that looks like he's never played the position. yet we're going to find fault with dri. he's the reason we can't win i guess. i haven't even mentioned cam or lyons that made the team. or the now 4th kicker. how about the two safeties that are such ST's demons that can't see the field in our regular defense unless they are the last guys we have. yea, dri's the problem.:cool:

Well, this thread is about Dri afterall. There are other threads that talk about those other players as well. No one is saying that Dri is the only problem on this team. So maybe a little less drama...

I have no animosity towards Dri, I just couldn't
believe with who was on our roster at the time Dri
was drafted (3rd round) that there ever was going
to be enough touches for him to be successful,
other than special teams. Thanks MT &KC might
as well throw in Todd Haley too.

Not a fan of Archer. San Diego's kicker Lambo has only 10 touchbacks out of 21 kickoffs. If Archer has an opportunity to show something, it should be this week hopefully. They are obviously not including him in the offensive game plan. If Archer does get a return opportunity early and does mediocre, I wonder if they'll try Todman back there??
