Any idea how Ben got a bone bruise on that sack? Sure didn't look that there was that much contact.

I would say they probably went by the severity of the sprain and what they have seen in the past. There was a lot or torque put on the knee.

it looked like a good shot with that helmet to the knee. there isn't a lot of meat there over the bone. even on ben, now if he hit him in the jowls that would be different.:smiley1::cool:

It can happen from contact, but it can also happen from twisting a joint, which is what probably most likely caused Ben's. It's called a bruise due to the bleeding, but it's really small fracturing of the bone fibers. Painful stuff that can last quite a while.

I saw a backside angle of the hit and that was a nasty blast. His leg looked like a boomerang on impact. He's lucky

I can attest to that from personal experience... someone took out my knee at a game (I used to play quite a bit of ultimate). Tore my ACL but the real (and lasting!) issue was the micro fracture in the condyl of my femur.. still causes me problems 20 years later (but the ACL is solid... e.g. I can ski aggressively on it)

Yea, for the ones who havent seen that replay, or the still shot from the behind angle they need to look. It was a nasty shot that could've been a whole lot worse!

Still don't know why that wasn't called a penalty. Yes he's tripped, but he continued to crawl/dog paddle toward the lower legs of the QB.

Bone bruises can be nagging from what I have been reading. Most likely they will wait for the MCL to heal(for stability) and inject him and slap a brace on his knee for pain. Depending how Vick does we will see when Ben returns.

Here's some different angles and some zoom for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Thanks TTF. The angles really show that he started crawling towards Ben's knees/lower legs from the 38 yard line and hits the area at the 34.

Something is wrong if that is not a penalty, fine and/or a suspension. It's Big Ben though so it's always open season.

Coming in out of control trying to make a play. Someone gets hurt every time. Ben almost got his leg out of the turf though. Gras maybe the cleats give and let his leg swig with the force of the hit...still would have gotten hurt, but maybe lessened.

If I'm Ben, I'm going overseas for that controversial stem cell treatment that's not available in the U.S.

Or conversely, do what Hines did to make it back for the playoffs.

It actually looks like Ben had gotten his foot off the ground in time and Barron hooked it and planted it again before driving into his knee.

Yeah but thats Ben for ya... Didn't say it was cheap or dirty, never called out nor calls out terrible linemen/o line play... Takes it on the chin and blames himself every time out. LEADER

I do agree that the bone bruise in this case likely has nothing to do with the contact from the hit itself, but rather the bone issues related to what happened internally. Just to offer another viewpoint, at one point I was surfing and had my legs snapped over my shoulders - around my back, not over my chest. Of course, the body is not meant to flex that way, so I compression-fractured my T12 vertebrae. While the initial recovery was quite painful at 4-6 weeks, once it was healed it was not an issue. Of all the injuries I've had, that one sounds like it should be the one of the worst, but I've not had any issues with it since it healed. I'm just hoping the same scenario applies to Ben's bone issues... I'm sure legs and individuals in general make my analogy less than adequate, but it may not be a big deal once it heals.

I will say this though... while it was healing... lots of pain killers, weakness in general, and very scary. Hopefully his rehab team is top notch, which I'm sure it is in the NFL.

I've hyper extended my knee before. Although he didn't do that exactly, the bones to my knee actually smashed together. Hence my bones bruised. Most painful experience of my life! On top of that my ACL pulled so hard it fractured part of my bone rather then tearing. POP, and on the ground. Good thing I was drunk lol.

Ouch, That's one of the most painful post I've ever read. Waters your eyes just reading it.

In regard to the play that hurt Ben it looks like a penalty to me and dirty. Looks like a swipe for the knee not an inadvertent fall into it.

Just the way I see it.

Let Harrison do that to a player and he will be both fined and suspended. Unbelievable....

You guys were right on - here is a quote from Ben -

“You’re always scared about season-ending ACL surgeries and things like that,” said Roethlisberger, who said he is still a little sore. “I felt something. What they concluded was the two bones smacked together, which caused the bone bruise. That was what I felt, the pain I felt."

    Ouch.
