So I finally get to go to a Steelers Game at Heinz Field!! Steelers v. Colts (I live in Indy now). I have been waiting a very long time and I am soooo excited! My dad is from McKeesport but I have not been in a very long time and don't really know the lay of the land surrounding the stadium.

I know it's a ways away but I want to start some planning and had a few questions:

    1. Where is a good place to eat before the game that has a full bar and is walking distance

    2. Where is the best/closest Irish Bar to the stadium

    3. Where is the BEST dive bar walking distance from the venue

    4. Where is the beset place to go after the game?

    Thanks guys!

I've only been to one game there and didn't do anything but tailgate and take in the game but I've heard it mentioned that Pramanti Brothers and Jerome Bettis Grille are very good.

At the stadium itself, you need to check out the Coca-Cola Hall Of Fame although now I think its just called Great Hall Of Fame, doesnt matter, exhibit is awesome.

Hopefully other board members will give you more ideas of what to do and see while there. Enjoy the game :yeehaw:

I would love to Tailgate but we won't have our car there..maybe we can just make friends? :) Although the other three I'm with are Colts fans...hehe

    Love Premonti Brothers!

We went to some hole in the wall bicycle bar on East Carson St. afterwards, loved it. It's a long walk from the stadium though. We're going back again this year for the Raider game. My first game at Heinz is what cemented me as a Steeler fan years ago. My wife has been resistant to embracing the whole Steeler tradition, but after going to the game last year she's quickly coming around.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. When I go to Consol for Pens games there are few places we love to go to but I would say that is a fair distance from Heinz Field. Bettis's place is supposed to be great.

I cant imagine someone wouldn't welcome you into their tailgating party. There are a TON of tailgaters there.

As Furnace said, leave your self extra time to see all of the goodies that are inside of Heinz Field. It is really cool!

Grille 36 is always my go to, that deep fried burger! Tilted kilt is fine too. But nothing beats a good tailgate.

Do yourself a favor and ride the Fort Pitt Incline and get some awesome pictures of the city from the top of Mount Washington.

    Also,
Primanti Brother original should be a must but expect long lines. It is on the South side which will be Black N Gold at every turn. DO NOT rely on the Primanti Brothers inside the stadium! Not the same experience nor quality.

I could give you many recommendations about 20 minutes from the stadium for bars and restaurants but it sounds like you will be more closer to the city so I won't bother.

Must eat pizza while there. No chain pizza places. Go local only. My wife swears it is better than any other city for getting pizza.

    Have fun n at.

This. The sandwiches are pre-made and cold more often than not. Primanti's is fantastic, but inside the stadium, it's rather... meh.

Especially if it's your first time, allow yourself PLENTY of time before the game to sight see around and inside the stadium. Drink it all in. Do visit the Great Hall. The locals can give you better bar info than I ever could.

We usually stay on the south side at the Crown Plaza. The trolley comes right to the hotel so you don't have to worry about parking or anything like that. Plus the Steelers team store is right across the street.

Isn't the original Primanti Bros. in the strip district?

Yeah, I've been there several times, that's why I was confused when he said it was on the South Side.

The Primanti Bros on Carson St. is a close second. Just a hole in the wall sandwich shop.

    You're right.
Man, I need to get back. I don't know why I said the South Side. It's been a while since I been to Primanti's. Last time we skipped it because the line was clear down the block and around the corner.
