Yeah, Snack, I feel your pain...

I have NEVER in my life been conflicted about rooting for the Steelers...

    Until this pre-season...

It gave me a taste of what it would be like, if Ben went down, and Vick went in...

I didn`t like rooting for the defense to kill my quarterback!!!

But, I did... Ben, Stay Healthy!!!!:cool::thumbs up:

Yes I agree BFT I do not think for one moment this team is disciplined and coaches are strict enough. You need to pull more guys and leave the guys on the field that really play to win. We do need to get to the QB but with Brady thats very very difficult to do. If you can just get enough pressure sometimes that works to cause takeovers and hurried errant throws. I am good with that :)

I know this may have been covered in the gameday thread... and this is a thread about Jarvis (who, I think, looked better; though I suspect we will be rotating LBers more this season, which would be a sensible strategy)...

But on that fumble, why was it not ruled an advancement of the ball, and the next play positioned at the spot of the fumble? Or has that rule changed?

1 tackle. Dupree had 2, 1 sack. Dupree played more snaps then Moats. Harrison played more snaps then Jones. Nothing stood out to me. Need to see more from Jones, and hope we do. The Defense as a whole was sub par.

I think Von Miller also only had one tackle and no sacks yesterday. While Jones didn't have a good stat line I think he played very well, like it was a continuation of his play from last year before he got injured.

I thought it was because the ball sorta advanced itself in the course of the fumble as opposed to a player advancing it. Like it flew forward when it got stripped and then they landed on it.

I think it depends on the time of the game. In the last (two?) minutes of a half, only the player that fumbled can advance the ball, not a teammate. But at another point, any teammate can advance it, as long as it wasn't Holy Rollered intentionally.

JJ is the weakest outside linebacker..and Spence is the weakest inside linebacker

Imo one loss in reg. after ps seems premature to be gauging players abilities. Sporadic playing reveals wonder, I need to see a run of JJ's work. I'm thinking on the eve of Oct. 1st we will have more to discuss.. health, strength rushing or anything else of his do's and don'ts.

Your are correct HS - here's the NFL Rule (digest version)of which I and many others were unaware:

    Fumble
    1. The distinction between a fumble and a muff should be kept in mind in considering rules about fumbles. A fumble is the loss of player possession of the ball. A muff is the touching of a loose ball by a player in an unsuccessful attempt to obtain possession.
    2. A fumble may be advanced by any player on either team regardless of whether recovered before or after ball hits the ground.
    3. A fumble that goes forward and out of bounds will return to the fumbling team at the spot of the fumble unless the ball goes out of bounds in the opponent’s end zone. In this case, it is a touchback.
    4. On a play from scrimmage, if an offensive player fumbles anywhere on the field during fourth down, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. Any defensive player may recover and/or advance any fumble at any time.
    5. A muffed hand-to-hand snap from center is treated as a fumble.
I still have to chuckle when they start talking about illegal advancement on a muff

He had a decent game Thursday. Not great, but not bad. He flashed on a few plays in the 2nd quarter, and I liked his motor. His first step makes me cringe at times on the edge. I liked his motor throughout the game and the bull rush on Solder. If the Pats weren't so high tempo, I think he and Shazier could have done some damage. I liked how much Shazier was rushing from the outside.

Just a thought but i'd like to see Shazier playing safety since he has the speed and good size and get rid of that bum Mitchell. Mitchell is a fraud but Dum-lin can't see it!

If a D player only gets 1 tackle in a game, then how can you say he played very well?

Just by the way he moved and disrupted his area. It wasn't so much a productive game as it was a promising one.
