    SICK interception by Brice McCain???

WHY DID WE NOT KEEP THIS GUY? He basically left for chump change and he looked like Blount and Woodson rolled into one on that INT.

And he had 3 INTs for us last year which led the team and was the most since Glenn Edwards in 1974.

That's a common mistake. If you crunch the numbers, no Steeler has had more than 3 INTs in a season since Glen Edwards in 1974. Edwards is also the only player besides Deacon Jones to record a sack, fumble, and 4 or more tackles in a game.

I think you might be right. Gay and McCain both tied Edwards' record.

And all that happened for Edwards in 1974. Man what a year! Wasn't he league MVP that year?

But the point is that neither McCain nor Gay are Glenn Edwards. And this dang sure isn't 1974.;)

I always assumed that stat about Edwards in `74 was a joke...

    I mean really...
Polamalou, Donnie Shell, Rod Woodson, Jack Lambert, Greg Lloyd, etc, etc, etc, all the great D-backs/Backers who have come thru Pitt, since 74, and NOT ONE ever had more than 3 picks in a season, esp when our seasons often go for more than 16 games???!!!

That`s amazing, and why I always assumed other posters were being sarcastic about that stat.... WOW.

I guess I should just google who has ever had more than 3 int`s in a season, since, now I`m curious...Didn`t seem like that high of a number.

edit... So I did, and the quickest thing I found was a list of interception leaders for the league, each year, since 1940...

The lowest total was 6 (in 1940, when they weren`t exactly slingin the ball around), with a lotta leaders around 8 to 12 picks a year...

So, yeah, VERY surprised NOBODY here has had MORE than 3, since `74.

    GO STEELERS...

There seemed to be a lot of "that" going on today with the games I was watching. I took full advantage of the NFL ticket today and flipped b/t a lot of games, lol.

Although never signed, CB Delvin Breaux, played pretty good from what I saw today. He was the CFL CB brought in this offseason for an interview but signed with the Saints. I believe there was an earlier thread when he came to town. Oh well, it will be interesting to see how he does over the course of the season.

I didn't see much of the Miami game, but hope McCain does well there.

McCain and Blake both sucked in that playoff loss to the Ravens, no big deal they didn't re-sign him the Steelers have enough midget CBs on the roster. Their plan was to address the CB position in the draft, unfortunately neither Golson or Grant will help the team this season.

Golson is short too though. I liked McCain and wanted him back. Good for him that he's doing good. Obviously he's no Glen Edwards but he is serviceable. It's like Magic Johnson said about Michael Jorda: "There's Michael Jordan and there's the rest of us". That quote was actually from Chuck Noll who said: "There's Glen Edwards and there's the rest of us".

3 picks the most since 1974? Huh?
Even Glen Edwards had more than 3 in seasons since 74

Just to name a few. Which if course isn't to say that the Steelers secondary is good, just pointing out the incorrect statement

Welcome to the board. Just so you know this is a long running joke around here. We all know this. It's just that there is a long running Glen Edwards joke here. Jack is not NEARLY as dumb as he sounds. Neither are the rest of us. Well... most of us... LOL!

The way you know most stuff is sarcasm here is that there is also an inside joke where sarcastic comments are typed in green. We really need to make a sticky thread for all the uninitiated with all the inside jokes from around here. LOL. That Glen Edwards joke has been around for almost a year.

Welcome to the board, exercion. We've gotten a lot of mileage and some good laughs out of Glenn Edwards circa 1974. And don't listen to BFT, I really am as dumb as I sound.

Damn, guess I should have listened to that qoute from somebody or other, about, "It`s better to keep your mouth shut, and be thought a fool, than to open it, and prove them right"...

    Twain, maybe???

Anyhow, I fell for Snack`s post... Usually, he doesn`t joke about stats...

    I`m an idiot....

The whole time, I was thinkin I saw Troy make more than three in a season,

Gotta remember to trust my instincts....LOL!

Actually, Glen Edwards recorded the first ever interception in league history. Before him, no defender had the requisite skill required to catch a pass intended for an offensive player.

If one of the Steeler's defenders doesn't break Glen Edwards' 1974 INT record .........................."this season will be meaningless".

EDIT - sorry BleedSteel - didn't catch your "meaningless" referral in the other thread. At least it wasn't redundancy pertaining to beating off defenders.
