While Ben is in his prime, because without him the Steelers would be the Browns. If the organization can't do a better job of putting together of a decent defense, they won't come close to getting that #7 Super Bowl. Some of us fans remember the years after Bradshaw retired and all the bad QBs we had to endure.

I am seriously doubting he has 5 years. He is having trouble escaping a pass rush now. Just too many hits over the years.

The offense should be ok for a few more years if we can keep the elite, avoid serious injuries, stay away from drugs and shield Ben. The D's front will mature with time but for enjoying another championship that's going to be a stretch until the lame brains give us a secondary. The offenses are sitting back licking their chops awaiting to humiliate.

I still suffer some PTSD from the Mark Malone years. I hope the transition from Ben to our next quality starter occurs more quickly than the decades long transition from Bradshaw to Ben.

I agree totally. It's not like you can find the "next Ben" at the drop of a hat. Just like you can't find the "next Troy" and how we are still waiting on the "next Rod Woodson". We remember guys like Ben, Troy, and Rod because there are no other guys like Ben, Troy, and Rod. When you look in the league right now there are only 3 qbs that have 3 Super Bowl appearances and ours is one of them. That is actually a rare accomplishment in the HISTORY of the league really. So to think we will draft another franchise qb and ESPECIALLY one that is gonna have the success that Ben has had is definitely stretching it. I will say though that IF the Landry pick is really scary to me because if they really did think he could be the heir apparent to Ben they seriously need to be getting some new scouts. I mean he's really not even worthy of an NFL roster spot at all. I just hope they know what they're doing when it comes to drafting the next franchise guy.

But it can be done if you play your cards right. Favre to Rodgers. Manning to Luck. It's rare, but not impossible.

It would take incredible timing. If Manning's neck hadn't gotten hurt Luck wouldn't be in Indy because they wouldn't have been able to pick that high. So many things have to fall in place for stuff like that to happen. Wouldn't you say for us to get the top draft prospect that we would have to have a really bad year so we could draft highly since the league is so qb driven now?

I know it would take a good bit of luck (no pun intended) and timing. But the Packers were able to nab Rodgers at the end of the first round. Drew Brees was a second rounder. Quality QBs get drafted after the first round on occasion. We need to be ramping up our college QB scouting efforts over the next couple of years to try to find Ben's successor.

I just hope we get a traditional, pocket passing, quick reading, qb. I guess I'm old fashioned but I still say those always have and always will give you the best chance to win.

if we find a new heath, have the best rb in the league and the best wr in the league and possibly the second best wr in the league on the team, it could make our new qb look bradshaw and ben like. a qb will only be as good as those around him.

After the many years of frustration between Bradshaw and Ben, I am not ready to have this conversation just yet.

the years after Bradshaw were painful,,,,, lets see there was Mark Malone I don't want to talk about,,,and BUBBY lord help us,,and then there was Kordell SLASH Stewart I did not watch much during his time, and then there was Neil O'Donnell I still believe he was paid off by the Cowboys to lose that game, why else did the Steelers not resign him the following year,,,and then there was Mike Tomczak a career backup QB that one almost killed me,,,,,,,,and then there was Big Ben,,,yes we have a history of poor QBs and I hope history does not repeat itself,,I am not sure I have time to wait it out

it's funny how spoiled we are and how we complain about those years, but we still made many championship games and even superbowl appearences. many teams don't sniff them. yea, it wasn't always pretty but it wasn't near that bad either compared to a lot of teams.

Yeah, Mac, because for a LONG time, all we needed was a qb..

The supporting pieces were already there..

Bus, an o-line, a decent reciever or two, Awesome DEFENSE...etc..Hell, even O`Donnell could get us to the SB, with that supporting cast...

We didn`t NEED a superstar qb... but it sure helps!

We`re kinda in the same place now...Minus the D, but that could already be here, waiting to break out...

I just hope it doesn`t take as long to find Ben`s replacement...
Pretty sure it ain`t Vick, or Jones...
    WIN NOW, STEELERS!!!:herewego!:

Yeah Peyton was the other one. Eli has 2 appearances and so does Russell Wilson. Most don't even have ONE. We are very fortunate to have Ben.

How can you leave out the illustrious career contributions of Steeler greats Cliff Stoudt and Todd Blackledge?
