The Reality Is... that we know the defense is not great, and that it will not become great, immediately.

The Reality Is... that I'm sitting over here wondering why the offense has such a hard time putting up 30 points/game. They keep putting up ridiculous yardage stats that don't match the points they score. Ben had... what?... 351 passing yards... and the backup RB had 127 rushing yards... AB had 133 yards receiving... and all that added up to 21 points...

 

How come I haven't read anything about the atrocious play calling from Haley?! Those draws up the middle to the fullback?? Part of the awful clock management? Not using playaction, etc, etc... He really needs to step up!

 

I'm with you. I get it about the defense, but I don't expect them to be good until mid-season given loss of veteran talent and a new DC.

I keep scratching my head about this offense. They should be lighting up the scoreboard.

So much this! Ben has had a problem scoring TDs if it is less than 20 yards out for awhile now. I'm disappointed in him because I know he is capable of better.

 

The biggest disappointment to me about the game is the lack of physicality with Gronk when they said all week they were going to be physical. Shazier was the logical physical matchup and we failed to utilize him for that. Makes no sense.

 

Makes me wonder what we're going to do with Vernon Davis next week

 

I honestly dont' think that he is capable. He's struggled with red zone scoring his whole career, so at this point I don't expect it to improve, at least not much. That's why we need a strong running game.

And Anquon Boldin, that guy is still a beast receiver....

 

not so fast. He actually had a decent game against NE. This is his last year to prove himself but to call him a bust in the 1st game of the season to me is very premature

 

This is where missing Bell and Bryant hurts the most. Those guys are our "go to" players inside the twenty...

Bell is a good runner, as well as a matchup nightmare in the passing game around the goal line. He can catch out of the backfield and also split out and beat a LB or S like a WR. Bryant also had a couple nice jump ball type TD's in the red zone last season IIRC. I was hoping he'd improve in that area and possibly be a quality RZ target this year.

AB an Wheaton are on the shorter end of WR's (not that it's a bad thing, just more difficult when the field is shrunk), Heath isn't the player he was a half decade ago, and they took DWill out inside the five in favor of W. Johnson... Where are our RZ threats now?

 

Yeah, 95 looked really nice Thursday night. I thought he stood out in a really positive way. If games like that become the norm instead of an outlier this season, the JJ hate will be a lot less vocal.

 

I don't care if he was wearing hunter orange these guys couldn't cover him as tag teams. Allen flat out stinks and Cockrell isn;t that good which leaves 3 guys at 5'10 or less to go up against this 6'6 beast!

Gerry Dulac said that Boykin is struggling and that's why he didn't play against the Patriots, well the rest of the secondary is struggling also

 

When the game is on the line Ben rises to the occasion, that is what separates him from other QB's. Its just that he rarely puts teams away in the first 3 quarters before that like Brady does. When was the last time we played a team and the game was over by halftime because Steelers put them away. It rarely ever happens anymore. Even in the years with the great defense.

 

From the limited stuff I have seen Bykin seems like the most talented DB on this team, or at least the second. That's a headscratcher to me.

 

Robert Golden flat out slid off of Gronk's body like water on a windshield.

I have been saying this for years, he has no business in the starting lineup due to his tackling ability.

 

The entire secondary avoided gronkowski and Edelman as if they had h1n1

 

I was hoping someone would lit up Edelman, he was going out of his way to talk crap after every catch.

 

I thought this was exactly why we drafted him? Shazier has all the tools to do this. It all comes back to preperation, we are way behind in this category.........

 

so boykin is struggling and the rest of these guys know the defense? hmmmm K.
